A short interview with European rally star, Patrick Snijers, before Lower Silesian Rally of Legends one month ago. Snijers says he prefers old rally cars than the current machines full of the latest technology:

interesting opinion, mentioning current rally2 cars are glued to the grownd with not so much engine power, while old cars (and the Porsche GT he runs in belgium) slide more around and he thinks its more fun to drive.
visually i tend to agree, "sliding cars" is more fun to watch, but im not the biiiiggest fan of these historic cars cuz they 'look slow'. some of them are incredibly beautiful tho, cannot deny that!

And many historic cars sound better and as for the Porsche R-GT... just incredible.

The opinion of Snijers is natural because he was raised in the old times. No offence but it's very common that people prefer the era when they were the best. It's sort of the grass was greener when we were young.
Rally2 cars have similar power to the first WRC. They are not at all underpowered.
The development of suspension and tyres is natural. It can't be stopped. Today the cars work better because the world didn't stop 40 years ago. It would be pretty bad if it wasn't that way. The RWD cars are fun but they are slow as hell today and being the fastest is the point of the sport.Stupid is as stupid does. Forrest Gump
