    Question Fitness training for Motorsport

Hi everyone, this is my first post in Motorsport Forums - happy to be here!

Just wondered if there are any drivers in here? If so, how do you train and what do you race?

I've just started racing my own ProKart at Clay Pigeon Raceway, England, and have always been fascinated by how racing drivers train because I think it's rarely talked about within the community.

Also, I have my own website where I'm exploring my fascination. Feel free to check it out - hanscomberacing.com

Most important is cardio training. Second is upper body strength.

There have been drivers like Tony Kanaan, Scott Dixon who have used triathlon training as their racing fitness base. (swimming, cycling, running)

Formula Medicine in Italy is probably thee place for racing driver training from a scientific perspective.

Many racing drivers usually have a background in motocross or off road motorcycles. Situational awareness of other bikes in the air, picking a line through dirt/ mud, understanding the machinery & not wrecking to get a finish etc.

The NZ 'driver academy' program, years ago co-started by a former Formula One team management guy.

Course done by Hartley - LMP & Le Mans winner, Paddon - wrc, Gilmour - APRC, electric offroad and rallycross. etc
The course covers fitness, nutrition, communications, finance etc

Drivers use Sauna, and artificial hot environments for preparing for hot events, even if they live in a cold climate.

If an event is at high altitude the drivers will use tents/ sleeping environments to mimic high altitude for weeks beforehand.

Simulators can be part of the training, some drivers drive entire races (30 laps)for supercars for the next circuit in their calendar with their SimworX - Australia simulators.
