Only example of politics getting in the way of motorsport in the Canaries I can remember because I was there for the rally which didnt happen, was on Lanzarote a couple of years ago when Volcanes got cancelled after all the Spanish championship crews had already landed on the Island.

It would appear two big proposed developments in the south of Tenerife have been the catalyst for the protests and have to say I sympathise with the cause as the organisers are realistic in that they acknowledge tourism's part in their GDP but want a balance. It's a cause that will spread throughout a lot of places in the coming months and years I think.

So was I Quite big shock when you get to know during airport security check that you are flying almost for nothing. Almost, because island is beatiful

Yes I remember you posted that at the time! I was in bar not far from the first stage when I found out! As that was a mixture of local politics and the organisers cutting a few corners think it was a special case. Having seen the support though for El Corte Ingles from the locals on several occasions dont think it will be a problem on GC as has been said above

Yes I fear so too, you just need to look at the new cost for tourists to get into Venice and when everyone sees the amount of money being made others will soon follow, and prices will go up.
As usual, people with lots of money won’t even think about it but those less well off might just make the difference in being able to go.
If the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off!

They say that rallying is not popular, but tickets for stage 1 are sold out:
