WRC mainclass from 2027

As expected, three weeks passed and still nothing.
I stand by: No new manufacturer is coming.

And because of that, since we will have, realistically, a Toyota cup anyway, WRC27 could have been the Rally2 replacement and Toyota could have brought back the new 17 build that was cancelled due to Covid ;D

Words from the FIA President carry a weight of expectation. Rumours generated by an anonymous Peruvian instagram account spreading text as an image should be dismissed on the spot.

Just been watching some WR2C, maybe WRC should rename the new Rally1 and Rally2 to Ultimate and Stock Production?
W2RC has one huge advantage over WRC, it's organized by ASO, so it's not FIA who has the main word in rules, etc. Same as WEC and to some extent F1.

What's the difference between ASO and the WRC promoter, unless you're saying they've gone AWOL?

If no Promoter take over will RedbullGmbH just continue (cuz they dont seem that interested any longer) or FIA takes over? They took over Rallycross and its looking really good IMO - Tho they ended the World Championship, which was a good move. (Not saying "end WRC")

WRC Promoter has rights until 2034 (?) Only if they walk away the FIA would take full charge, which is what happened in Rx.

What's crap about this sale process including the next term is that it could have stifled good/fair competition in the tender for the next 20 year term IMO, if it would have existed. Clearly nobody wanted the next 7 years alone, but anybody interested in the next term has now had to pay over-valuation to buy the current promoter out. Understandable why, but not a positive situation. But it could possibly be why the current situation is so muddy and drawn out. There's 2 settlements to get through at fair valuations.

I think the new kit is proof of the new promoter. I don't think the FIA would have chosen it despite MW being at both ends of the deal. FIA don't stand to gain anything from it.

you mean a possible new promoter would be the one requiring the kit idea in order to have some more $ from manufacturers? thats an interesting thought.

No, I think the promoter wants the kit to have a marketable product in the teams championship distinct from the privateers who are there for their own enjoyment.

Then why the hell they give such deadlines, news, promises if they don't have intend to fulfill it? I don't get their thinking if they know that it would take a long process and discussion to finalize things. Are they clearly that nuts not realizing that it could drive everyone out and collapsing whole WRC (yes, I really think we are on very thin line righ now, and every day make it even worse).

In the coming days, I will finalise matters related to one of the disciplines closest to my heart: rallying. WRC’s [new commercial rights holder] will be cleared within three weeks. I am saying it and you are writing it, and if I don't do it then I am the one at fault” said Ben Sulayem.

You will hear the good news in two weeks, three weeks maximum. We cannot wait anymore."

I don't think it's so bad as deephouse says, but I'm going on strike as a WRC fan.

No I mean ASO has much bigger say in W2RC and everything related to it, because 1) they organize Dakar, which is staple of W2RC, and 2) FIA joined the project pretty recently to give it official World Championship status. Also the fact that FIM is included too plays its part.

In this case FIA needs ASO and Dakar more than ASO needs FIA. The same is true for WEC and Le Mans.

In case of WRC? Could WRC Promoter say "we are not happy with what is FIA doing, so we are taking Monte, Finland, Sweden and Kenya out of the calendar and everyone will leave WRC with us"? No.

In F1 it's similar, but in that case the promoter (aka Formula One Management) has such a strong position that FIA could do nothing without them.

I think I get your point, WR2C is one of the more modern promoter-heritage series like Formula E or WRX. WRC heritage is in open sport.

But the FIA has always been the governing body for each of the rally-raid events, world championship or not. ASO would be nothing if it walked away and it had to wait for the other events to grow before it could form a world championship. There's no significant international series in motorsport outside the FIA and member system.

Back to the point, if WRC Promoter proposed new names for the cars the FIA should consider it and decide on it in exactly the same way.

Yeah but Dakar would survive without a championship, but there would be no championship without Dakar. Ofc having a championship is valuable for all sides.

Millener's take on the Kit decision:

This interview is like a fever dream.

“Not necessarily. People have been talking about a kit like this for years. In the end, it was the FIA that pushed the proposal forward, introduced the kit and asked the manufacturers to vote on it. The vote was overwhelmingly in favour."

But.. they all said that they won't develop the kit immediately after the announcement?

I just don't know anymore.

And

“If Rally2 cars had simply been left unchanged, would anyone ever have committed to the championship? The FIA is making all of us take a look at what we’re doing and make a decision, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

But no one commited to the championship other than Toyota, which would have anyway, and M-Sport, which would have anyway too?

And

“We’ll never know exactly how much closer the kit brings us to the new Rally1 cars because we don’t know where Toyota’s benchmark is. I’m sure the new cars will still be quicker, and they should be.

So they propose the kit for what exactly? In the hope that it helps and WRC27 is still quicker?(?)

Makes me think what they had been told about full season participation, Lancia must have voted for this thinking they could cherry pick rounds. I should think only Skoda voted no, with Hyundai and Citroen effectively abstaining if this was 'overwhelmingly in favour'.
