WRC mainclass from 2027

i think some of the rules have been upgraded. there's no longer the need to participate in all the rounds, now it's like 15 in 2 years.
also, rally2 constructor as skoda can be identified as constructor viable to homologate a kit.
a team like toksport can buy the kit from skoda and use it in wrc championship as long as they enter as wrc team (paying fees and participating in 15 round in 2 years) . skoda can stay out of wrc even producing the kit.
That's the wide belief but it's at odds with the latest article from Rally Journal. Nobody anywhere ever specifically said 15 over 2 for manufacturers and kits, that's why I've always been sceptical of it. But it's all talk anyway, because it won't 'attract' anybody.

15 over 2 is only for WRC27 constructors as far as I'm concerned.

wrc27 and rally2 kit are the same class. Why should regulation be different?

Entirely different reg sets, and past vs future

Kit manufacturers have a simple development task for bolt on panels compared to building a car from the ground up which has to go through various validations, approvals and homologations.

on the wrc27 side, italian media report:
• rallyone to test on 1st september (budget for 20 days, starting on tarmac)
• tarmac only until october at least, 5 events this year, 10 next year to stay in the 15 rounds in 2 years new reg)
• contacted nueville and loeb but refused
• possible driver: abbring, lefebre, cherain, astier
• no official link with porsche atm
Sounds like a well funded team (your sarcasm detector should jump out the window). At least M-Sport has some one to fight with now, I guess

Well if Hyundai ,Lancia,Skoda keep the current wrc2 to fight with Toyota wrc27 and MSport wrc2 plus , Can they achieve the podium??

Oh my, what a great sign.

There are a lot of red flags, but on the other hand the team consists of people with a lot of experience in motorsport. The car might be good on tarmac, but with limited budget it will be difficult make it versatile on all surfaces. Seems like C3 all over again.

So again in case of this new era of WRC. Constructor like PR1 or RMC will do 15 events across two years. Homologate the car, sell 10+ products and then shuts down programme and run only customer business, while the car will have valid homologation for 10 years. Customers can race anywhere in the world. Ok, not a bad thing, but what do we get in WRC? Absolutely nothing as this two new entries are not long term. Will Toyota follow path and leave too after 2027 season? And WRC will be all private teams, not contesting full seasons and just for a short time. Of course some new might come during those ten years or some of current manufacturers involved might do that car, but it could be the same for them. Creating car just for business and racing just for a short time. Ok, if there will be teams willing to race full season, that will be great, but as costs are too high even for manufacturers, there is 0 chance that privateers would do that. That means current drivers who's used to have high salaries will: either leave or (highely unlikely) take what they can as privateers will surely not have millions to pay to them. Also, some events could end up "empty" or so called main drivers would contest part prigrammes and could never actually race to each other, just score points. Just like in WRC2. Don't know, but to me it doesn't look like a long time plan, but short one, even if on paper it does say it is.

I honestly wish them all the best. And I wish for WRC that they suceed too - but they are set up to failure by the FIA / WRC. How can you even let garage teams (comparatively) compete with Toyota in one class? That's downright cruel

i think it's way to early to read this kind of development. why so harsh? it's not even started. why already speaking about leaving the championship? why they can't be an m-sport contestant for 10 years?

on the development program...i don't see it poor or failing. they're building a new car, they ll do some some race, and plan to double it on the second year (competing in most part of the next chmapionship) not bad for a private team.

and by the way, we speak a lot longing for the past golden era, but also there we had partial program (even from big star lancia).
sometime i feel we overplay a bit with desire vs realism! : )

What they should do is skip the whole homologation bullshit and let tuners develop kits for rc2 cars. It would be a lot easier to create a kit for skoda, if skoda themselve aren't interested in doing so, than to build a entirely new car from the ground.

WRC has bigger fish to fry than thinking about 2029 powertrains.

This is nothing else than again flinging s*** on the wall and see what sticks. Desperation

What's the concern? It's all part of the same vision. Rally2 as 2027/2028 gets the ball rolling and then it's bring what you got.

I'm sure even you would like to see more manufacturers/constructors and the reality is nobody will be bringing unsuitable V8s etc for cars that will be regulated with torque meters to a current performance level.

open powertrains for 2029.

Good starting point. Bridging 2027-2028 with Rally2 and prepare the ground on the first real new WRC season in 2029.

BUT. BIG BUT: prepare the regulations by Late Summer/Early Autumn 2027 for it. Teams needs 16-18 months to get properly prepared.

The last thing a struggling (for attention) WRC needs is talk about EVs. Have a vision, stick to your vision (and don't make the vision EC). Work on the real problem. All this talk just desperation to get at any manu interested in WRC.
