WRC mainclass from 2027

I was not against new rules at first, but I'm now as it seems it doesn't work and I think it will not work. If it would, we would already heard some positive news, but we didn't get nothing. Every arcticle is literally full of uncertainity and simply we can't get a feeling that future will be bright. The major brake that everyone keep shouting was promoter affair. And now we heard multiple times that new rules isn't confirmed or being final? What final rules? What the actual f***? What did they doing all this time until now? Even Toyota admitted that they are waiting finalization of rules. I was shocked. Completely.

That's why I think current Rally1 should continue or current stock Rally2 should take over until things will ACTUAL BE CLEAR and cemented on paper. I know that promoter affair was having big bucks in game and isn't simply doable quickly but being that stupid running through wall... It's unlogical, stupid and idiotic.

This rules seems created more problems than solutions. Sweeping will be a major problem, as not many people are keen to reintroduce qualification stage. The unproven car will irridicate well proven formula, and eventually could drive out well established business of some. It seems drivers are not very motivated or doesn't have options at all, hard to achieve same level of performance, impossible to build the cars in such short time. We only get two positive news of PR1 and RMC, but even those two with uncertainity. And how could those two would achieve impossible if even that one who started early blindfolded, with unlimited resources and it seems they can't do it properly... Again with a help of FIA and those key people who call shots. It seems pyramid of rally cars categoriey will be complicated. Bringing some sort of kits which nobody wants except khm, well that one, who is putting bandage over WRC through all those years...

All that could simply be avoided with less powerful than Rally1 and more powerful Rally2 car. I think that even with around 500.000 cost of a car is achievable for private teams, more time (and introduced officialy in that season which everyone will be ready). Different shapes could stay and "tuner" option could remain, also that 10 cars needs to be sold and mandated full season for eligible homologation. Spaceframe to justify their need for safety (which I honestly think that already Rally2 cars are very great at safety aspect, but ok, what needs to be, it needs to be). Pyramid of rally cars would be kept, points system is fine, events seems have great interest, of course promotion needs some work, also different PU in future can be possible.

It looks like "new regs" (I put it intentionally in commas as it seems it's not final at all) could be good, if it would be done properly and more importantly in a right time. That means earlier (so that teams could have enough time to be ready) or later (to give teams enough time to prepare properly or convince someone new to come).

Current Rally1 won't continue for obvious reasons, period. If people wish to see it, fine, but if any person says that it should continue and that FIA bosses should quit because they don't know what they're doing, it's something else.

If Rally2 for everybody was the answer, that too, would have already been done. And I still can't seem to get an answer to who the teams in the manufacturers championship are from people who propose it. Only M-Sport maybe which compounds my point that motorsport based businesses are the future. An answer could be Lancia if they could be permitted to do 10 rounds, I'll say that's even more shambolic than any problem of sweeping, which is a non-issue for the longer term future.

But where's these rumours that these regs aren't sticking? Not credible accounts I'll bet.

Reactions: COD
latvala, quintero and now ott racing and developing the corolla in rally america, any chances the 2027 car will be called "corolla"?
i know its a 'protoytpe' but eh, publicity among racing fans is publicity. havent read if thats toyota's plan (to move from the yaris)

WRC 2011- was also 2.5bar
Was this the (de)tunable RRC? Perhaps getting that again if the data loggers are for WRC-M and the pop-off valve for the private sector. But the restrictor stays the same. Is that cost related? And what's with the no bypass?

Glad to know its not just me thinking there's no parity in performance. (y)

How does a manufacturer not use the kit itself if it has to enter every round itself to homologate the kit it is either using or not using?

I'd take this as confirmation that the recent announcement of 15 over 2 for kit manufs was a confusing mess, if this wasn't a confusing mess.

---

Wilson stressed that a manufacturer can develop the upgrade kit and sell it to private customers even if it does not use the kit itself.

‘Yes, it is possible,’ Wilson confirmed.

‘As long as they sign up for the Constructors’ Championship. The only way they can use it is if they register as a constructor, so they have to do that.

‘We have reduced the registration fee by 50 per cent to encourage manufacturers to develop the kit. That 50 per cent reduction more than covers the cost of developing and designing the kit,’ Wilson explained.

---

What does "sign up" even mean? Pay the price and then it's enough when your customers drive the required rounds?

Also strong logic there Malcom with `That 50 per cent reduction more than covers the cost of developing and designing the kit,’

It's like when I impulse buy a TV on sale which I would have never bought otherwise and then claim I saved the sales $

Sign a contract to compete in the constructor's championship. And pay the necessary fees and costs.
You would think that the "compete" would be part of signing up, but it kind of sounds like that it's then enough when your customers compete?

"Wilson stressed that a manufacturer can develop the upgrade kit and sell it to private customers even if it does not use the kit itself."

Maybe I found the answer:

  1. The homologation of a RALLY2-WRC-KIT will only be carried out after a Manufacturer (OEM) has registered for the World Rally Championship as a Constructor.
  2. During the first year of homologation of the RALLY2-WRC-KIT, he must participate in 100% of the events listed on the WRC calendar (with a minimum of 2 cars per Rally).
Good excuse for this kit to be binned for 2028.

Thank you and what a mess this is. So you keep being a constructor after year 1, even if you do not compete anymore (at all or full?)? But you still have to pay a yearly fee(?)

Only pay for the constructors championship in the 2nd year if competing in the constructors championship.

Not clear if the 'privateers' will be teams in the constructors championship needing to do 100%, or gentlemen in occasional rallies.

I think it's all talk anyway. Won't see anything from it.

Yeah... they flip flop anyway. If Subaru would offer them to compete 1 round in a go-cart we would read that this is totally allowed and was always the plan. Desperation and such

So if I understand correctly. Manufacturer could find 15 teams and they each can enter one event (hypothetically) and manufacturer have covered all those 15 events. Skoda basically have already that each event. They just put their name on entry and that's it.

So the same way apply for WRC27 cars? And more importantily, why would any manufacturer do that, except for free advertisement, which I think nobody of current ones doesn't need anymore, except Lancia.

They need to enter with a motorsport licence associated to the entries and entry forms (contracts) involving legal and financial risk. They could subcontract the operations to a 3rd party, but that is also detailed on the paperwork. Same happens if a 3rd party approaches the manufacturer and says "we wanna do this for you". If 15 different teams sign up, it should be 30 cars doing the full season.

What Skoda already have, is many customers with their own licenses entering at their own risk.

i think some of the rules have been upgraded. there's no longer the need to participate in all the rounds, now it's like 15 in 2 years.
also, rally2 constructor as skoda can be identified as constructor viable to homologate a kit.
a team like toksport can buy the kit from skoda and use it in wrc championship as long as they enter as wrc team (paying fees and participating in 15 round in 2 years) . skoda can stay out of wrc even producing the kit.

on the wrc27 side, italian media report:
• rallyone to test on 1st september (budget for 20 days, starting on tarmac)
• tarmac only until october at least, 5 events this year, 10 next year to stay in the 15 rounds in 2 years new reg)
• contacted nueville and loeb but refused
• possible driver: abbring, lefebre, cherain, astier
• no official link with porsche atm
