WRC mainclass from 2027

The thing i don't get is why tuners can do half the round for the first year, and rally2 kit have to do full championship.
Constructors are being enticed and have more to develop. The kit is solely a promoter's tool for full championship entertainment for existing cars and manufacturers.

I think it should be the original source i.e not citing some site but today there was an article in Estonian news site where they interviewed Toyota Gazoo Racing technical director Tom Fowler. Great article, lots of insight about the development but the biggest takeaway for me was about Tänak. Tom was talking about the testing plans for factory drivers and "They definitely want to spend more time in the car now and drive it at least as much as Ott has, because they don't want get beaten by him."

The phrase "don't want to get beaten by him" is maybe a bit too strong translation, softer would be "don't want to fall behind him". But the meaning still stands.

When asked if Tänak, who put his driving career on hold, will be seen competing again in the new year, he replied: “I think we can't say yet who will be in the team next year and who won't. This car also needs to be sold, so you never know who you'll be driving against.”

Tuners are being encouraged for the long-term, so allowed to join with their new car when ready.

The Kit teams (well, M-Sport) are being penalised for being late and using their old car to compete. I guess that's fair and makes it a Manufacturer Championship.
lancia has a new car, and would do the kit for less round, so...

We dont know that, they haven't confirmed this.

Plus they seem tight on budget and may struggle to design and test a Kit in time anyway. I think they're happy to compete with their standard Rally2 Car, like Śkoda.

WRC2 is a business where you can profit, WRC1 is / will be not. As long as this is not changed we won't get the comparatively broke manus like Lancia & Skoda in WRC1

WRC27 looks way slower than Rally2. But I think Toyota WRC27 will be still faster than any other car entering the events.

The regs are written and in theory, already approved and they've got it in 2.5bar absolute turbo pressure vs 1.65 in Rally2 and for Rally2-kit. It should be a significant leap in power. They shouldn't call these the same class, I don't know what the thinking is.

they did. there's a statement from their director saying " kit is not a problem, full rounds is. we ll do the kit for 10 rounds instead of 15".

I wouldn’t say way and also the conditions are different with Tänak having the rain

By the time the season starts it’s definitely faster or at least as same as rally2

Fair enough.

I was listening back to a DF podcast when the Kit news came out and they were all saying, "great for Lancia their plan has worked."

But now they still wont accept the chance to enter the top level when its presented to them.

Only MSport will have a Kit for 2027 which is really disappointing from the rest (Lancia, Hyundai & Skoda).

It's the mandatory full 14-event requirement the issue here. Probably they want to first make some money from customers to justify their programme, but it's always a chance when they achieve that they would go as all others. Leave with factory supported and be there with customer team.

Yeah for sure. I would say it's viable to just rotate drivers that look to do the event anyway, but when you are forced to actually have the 2 drivers at every event, it's very uncertain.

But I still think that the Rally2 WRC-kit is more like a box-ticking exercise: So FIA can say "look, we allowed the Rally2s as we promised", but realistically they did the opposite and actually restricting them.

If M-Sport can afford it and have done so for decades, then Lancia (Stellantis) can. It's more a question of commitment.

The new Constructors are also required to do the full season too after 2027 and they seem to think they can afford it.

Maybe the new Promoter will come up with the money to get Lancia and maybe Hyundai back onboard.
