WRC mainclass from 2027

Seen this in black and white now. Pedro is correct, you CAN.

But I still don't believe anybody WILL.
no, you can't. Kit needs to do all the championship. if not, lancia could do only the 10 rounds thy'rre asking instead of full championship.

"Homologation of the Rally2-WRC-Kit may only be carried out by a manufacturer registered for the WRC as a constructor. During the first year of homologation, the manufacturer must participate in all of the events listed on the WRC calendar, with a minimum of two cars per rally."

But that wasn't the question here. The question was about whether or not the kits could be made available to privateers making single appearances. In my understanding such thing will be possible, because otherwise the whole 7500€ cost cap for the kit wouldn't make much sense.

As far as I understand the manufacturer that builds the kit has to register as a constructor in the championship, pay the big bucks to the FIA and field 2 cars in every single round. By meeting these requirements, they can sell the same upgrade package to any interested customers with a maximum price of 7500€.

I saw €7500 as the rough cost to implement, not price to sell.

But it's written in the regs that it must be available to any customer who wants it. There's text on dataloggers and sensors that apply to P1 drivers but not other drivers. Also written is it'll only be valid for WRC until 31 December 2028.

But nobody was asking for it before and nobody showed interest since so it's all hogwash to me.

I Just found this on an DirtFish article. Was about to post it here hehe. I think I havent paying much attention to details.

They will have this Rally2 Kit thing for 27 & 28 while waiting for more "Builders".
But basically its a way for Malcolm Wilson to continue on the top class for reasons that are unclear to me, since they have been loudly struggling on the budget without Ford and RedBull. And now I see Stan's suggestion: Who would buy this to compete for 2 years max with no chance of beating the Toyotas? They cant even use the kit in National or ERC. (Not that I dont see our old Greek friend Buying one to race just because he likes to race - which is fine and lovely imo hehe.)

yes. but as i understand, u can use kit only in p1/wrc/rally1 category, and to do so you have to commit for the full round. there's no one round privateer (as a team, as a driver, team can change a driver for every race).

so you can sell kit to privateer, but the privateer team have to commit to the full championship.
and u can enter rally2kit only in wrc class.

it's lust like rally1 now. serderidis bought the car, but can't have a private entry, so "technically" is a m-sport entered driver for the race he do. i think will be the same mechanism.

So isnt this allowing the likes of Serderidis to do an occasional rally with a Fiesta Rally2 Kit car or anyone else who fancies it ?

They dont have to do the full Championship as long as M-Sport have two of their official cars registered to do that.

You can also count the number of non-MSport Fiesta starts this season on one hand.

We dont really know how good it is with only Jurgenson driving this year. Jon Armstrong was competitive & won ERC events in the Fiesta last year.

But anyway, it will be quite a different car with the Kit.

This makes sense to me. Need to wait for the sporting regs. Maybe what I've seen is if these cars get accepted into some other rally somewhere along the line.

yes, if u pay m-sport to be on their team. u can't do it as a standalone driver or team unless you're doing full championship.

Nah, you can drive as a standalone driver in one-off event. There is just no reason to do it under your own entry right now during Rally1 era.

First you would have to pay pretty big team registration team, which makes no sense for one-off entry. And don't forget that there weren't any real private entry in Rally1 era. Sure, Serderidis owns the car. On the paper. The car is prepared by M-Sport, run by M-Sport, and M-Sport keeps the car when it's not competing. No reason to register under your own team, more so when you don't have one.

mmm not sure... as far as I remember, from rally1 u can have a private team but fixed rounds (7 maybe) are needed (from 2027 all rounds are needed). for one off like serderidis, u go from registered manus that already run the cars.

This mandated rules for X number of cars needs to be build and run by X numbers of drivers for full season to even homologate is a complete stupidity. And I think it will be main reason, nobody new will join as excuse. If the brand will want to promote their product they will use their existing product, not some space shuttle. Tuners doesn't have to promote anything, as I think this rules are here just to make artificially look like that they want to privateers being again on the field (and in reality they don't want them), while they will never be able to achieve that.

I wouldn't be surprised if those rules are "manufacturer attraction devices". I see it this way: WRC is expensive, very expensive. Having this rule at least guarantees that the tuners that do commit, have enough runway to last a while. The hope might be that this is long enough to make them look legit enough for a manufacturer to invest in and take the team over with their branding and funding it after the iniitial money runs out.

From this lense, the rules make sense

Sorry, I meant the promoter.

Specifically, around this new obsession with full participation and magnets and the promoter's obligation to find ferrous metals.

The thing i don't get is why tuners can do half the round for the first year, and rally2 kit have to do full championship.

Tuners are being encouraged for the long-term, so allowed to join with their new car when ready.

The Kit teams (well, M-Sport) are being penalised for being late and using their old car to compete. I guess that's fair and makes it a Manufacturer Championship.
