Rally Discussion and Bar Talk Thread

Quick question for the Finnish fellas here: Do you learn Swedish/Norwegean (they are kinda similar, eh?) on school when you are a kid?
Always notice when watching Rallycross that Gronholm, Rytkonen, Joni, can always chat with Kristoffersson or Bakkerud in Swedish/Norwegean.

I am not Finnish, but I know that they learn Swedish in schools. Also, likes of Gronholm and Lindholm, for example, come for a part of Finland where Swedish is the first language. Helsinki area, for example, also has all the road signs both in Finnish and Swedish (some other parts of the country up North are the same, like Vaasa).

I don't know, however, how close Swedish and Norwegian are.

Swedish and Norweigan is quite similar. We understand each other quite easy. Some words can have a bit different meaning, but on the whole it´s easy to understand each other.

just a reminder for eventual basketball fans, this week the australian championship (NBL) starts! it has all live games on youtube (not sure aussies and kiwis get that tho, its probably for international audience only?). i think since the pandemic they started having the games on YT and since then i never watched the NBA again. it became such a 'circus' when compared. the aussie league has just 10 teams so its really easy to follow more games, its easy to memorize the good athletes from every team. the level of the top teams are as good as in euroleague (tho the crowd is nothing like the serbians hehe).

hockey fans, nhl also starts in two weeks or so. khl has started and the shl (swedish) starts this weekend too

not sure you fellas follow other stuff too

I only follow rallying and football. No time for anything else! :)

Maybe someone will find it interesting. Polish YouTuber recollects his favourite rally games and says his best game ever was Mobil1 Rally Championship (a game based on the British championship). In the first 10 minutes he lists all other games and then he concentrates on his favourite one. It's in Polish, but you can use automatic translation from YouTube. Here is the link:

theres some rally focused games, like Old School Rally, "Overjump Rally", Gravel, SuperWoden has one for rally, that Rally Art game, "Drive Rally The Game" (looks so cool). they are all arcade.
not to mention other racing games: superspec, hotshot, new star gp, screamer, formula legends
dammit i need a pc with steam

Interesting to see a post on Instagram from Rallye Merchandise saying that they are no longer going to be able to see rally clothing etc in the WRC service parks like they have for the last 20 some years. Not sure if the new promoter are doing that "in house" or have found a higher bidder

I was thinking why starting position has become more and more important over the years. I think the main reason is that grip levels from especially suspension and a bit from tyres have increased so much that road grip plays more of a factor than it did 20-30 years ago. Only reducing suspension travel would help a bit. Also shorter sprint rallies play a part

Or reducing tyre grip. That can easily be done and is equal for everyone.

I'd like this option. The best part is, they could accomplish this by making the tire more durable and long lasting.

I've always thought they use way too many tires. Especially during the hybrid era when they were touting eco friendliness while burning through 28 tires per weekend per car.

Make the compound much harder and more durable, I say, and drop tire count way down with the option to reuse tires from previous events.

Obviously this would make the cars slower. But maybe they wouldn't "seem" so much slower.

Bonus is, maybe the development that the tire company does for this could be applied to road tires.

But I'm no expert on tires

I totally recommend Star Drift Evolution.
