M-Sport Ford World Rally Teams

Sadly the Fiesta just isnt seen as the car to have now, no matter what M-Sport do to it or the results Armstrong had winning ERC & BRC events.

Most privateers have long since moved on to Skoda, Toyota or Lancia and wont be coming back. :(

That's the two main problems with the current Rally2, that I fear will both carry over to the WRC27: Sound (that we know already) and too developed suspension for the power.

To offset both you would just need more power. Keep everything as is (they said that the safety cell is already build for more speed), but with 400ps and we would not be near as bad as we are

there was that time where there was only citroens and fords basically in wrc (2011). i have NOTHING against that type of cars.
they are basically rally2, right? but they felt more agile, somehow? i bet they were waaay less expensive. i hope the new cars are more like that. simpler but fun, not GLUED to the ground.
msport was doing really well financially at those years selling most of the cars.
.

The new car from 2028 will bring people back. Nobody will buy a car derived from a dead platform. Same thing that happened with the Polo. And it's now happening with the C3, despite Stellantis saying they intent on having it alongside the Ypsilon.

At the time (2011) the costs of those cars was €500,000 and their restrictor for the engine was down from 34mm to 33mm (so just a tad higher than today's Rally2) and the cars they replaced both the C4 & Focus cost around €750,000 if I recall correctly and those were mighty machines with over 330BHP and a 2Litre Turbocharge, so quite a bit more mighty than today's Rally2, but I'm drifting from this thread's topic.

Didn't someone said that today's Rally2 cars are as fast or even faster than older WRC cars (2012-2016)?
I’m not sure but their turbo restrictor is smaller (just) from what the 2011-2016 cars had and with all due respect to the current Rally2’s I don’t think they’d be faster than the DS3 (at least in it’s first year when it was still being developed) or the Polo R.

they are near in most of the condition. old wrc still have advantage in fast and flowing (especially tarmac) roads.
rally2 advantage is in technological advancement, especially in tires, suspensions, and transmission.
there are some regional rally with direct confrontation, and usually they're close, but rally2 winning nowadays.

We could also just ban turbo's and go back to the sound of high revving engines like the s2000.

Here's Kajto saying that modern Rally2 cars are faster than WRC cars from 15 years ago (in Polish though, but I assure you that he really said that :) ):

Interesting... Maybe Ford has decided to up their investment again. Could tie with using the old Fiesta Rally 2 as a bridge for a new Fiesta WRC27 car from 2028 onwards.
