[ERC] Rally di Roma Capitale 2026

Early days, but if Suninen keeps it on the road, I don't see anybody putting up a real challenge to him. Marczyk is not blindly fast to begin with, Mabellini seems to not like the Ypsilon as much as the Fabia, Basso is past his prime (although he's doing very good for his age).
 
Teemu Suninen has taken the lead in the ERC title race – but two-time champion Giandomenico Basso is also in the mix, 17 years after his last European crown !

Reigning champion Miko Marczyk's title defence has not started well, finishing 59th, 7th and 10th so far.

That is not completely true. There are championships, where it is forbidden to measure time for safety and zero cars. Because they are there mainly for checking safety of the road and not competing. For sure timekeeper has "time" from finish photocell, but usually dont write it anywhere, including time card. And when manufacturers are doing this "zero car runs", they have their "actions" to prevent others to know their times. Like not starting on zero, but lets say 20 sec later, not drive full attack for whole stage, but for example three kms in the middle etc.

Yes, but he wasn`t in Sweden and not confirmed to do the complete championship, at least Portugal is probably unlikely

basso original plan was not doing the championship, only spot races in italy and erc (even with punto s2000 -probably sanremo). don't think plan will change.

just watched the full event highlights and somes stages here, what a beautiful location, eh?
the whole italy vs france thing they were doing this weekend was a total blow for the french hehe
however that doesnt compensate for italy not qualifying for the world cup heheh...

italian domination with teemu in the middle. top 4 separated by what? 17 secs in the end! impressive! mille did well too, happy for him!

Interesting to hear. I was quoting the practice in the UK where all vehicles are recorded in and out of every stage - including opening and sweeper cars, though their times are never published. MSUK doesn't like anyone "testing" as a course car. If you want to drive at competitive speeds then you have to enter the event!

i just saw heikki kovalainen was on dunlop tires!! THIS IS MADNESSSSSSSS =P
never knew they could do such thing!

Dunlop is developing the tyre, only they are not registered to ERC. Last year Arai was driving on Dunlop on Barum.
 
After Sweden I had another experience with work of stewards... On Saturday night, liaison from service area to parc ferme after flexi service was going also through normal road. I was sitting as codriver in car of Charpentier. We have arrived to crossroad, where we stopped on red light with intention to turn right. When there was green light, we have moved about 5 metres and stopped before pedestrian crossing, because people were walking there. When they were at the end of the road, driver put first gear and wanted to start, but suddenly scooter arrived from our back right and crashed into right front doors. He fallen with scooter down, we parked on side. This young italian run to us, was angry shouting, opened the codrivers door, kicked few times to the rally car and punched me by his helmet three times to my chest! I cannot imagine what more he can do, thanks god police was on other side of the road and arrived in 20 secs. So investigation started, I have immediatelly informed organiser and CRO that we had traffic accident and we will be late in TC parc ferme int. After whole investigation, we have moved car to parc ferme, 2:32 later than expected time. I went immediatelly to HQ to discuss with CoC about the situation, I have forwarded him email with report from the police. When the second leg started, I was surprised when I found in results that Tristan is retired in TC 7C because of accident. Which is not correct, we have arrived to TC 7C, I gave time card and time was noted there. Ok, Tristan lost 15 mins on Saturday with off road excursion, so it was not about result, but I still wanted to fight against it. So I spent whole Sunday trying to solve it. I even wrote official request to stewards and CoC to cancel the penalty, I have never received any official answer to it. Nobody from stewards asked us to come and at least explain, what happened... In the final, nothing happened. Only what I got "unofficially" that we should make a protest against penalty. For me this was only joke, how I can protest against penalty, which is nowhere written in results? I can make a protest against results. And waste money for that protest, because it was clear, that nobody doesnt want to do anything... I would like to thank to organiser who gave us all the support in communication with police and also other officials. But I dont think that FIA and stewards made a good decision not to do anything. It is also bad signal for other competitors, that nobody is protecting them and if there is traffic accident, it is better to leave place of accident... And I am curious if the situation should be same, if same accident should happen to the leader of the rally...
