[ERC] Barum Czech Rally Zlín 2026

The rally organisers have now provided an update on the incident.

Creighton was taken to hospital as a precaution, but he has not suffered any serious injuries. Co-driver Regan was also taken to hospital for treatment and further examinations, but according to the information available, his injuries are not life-threatening.

Kopecky was going slow, let Cais past, pulled over and stopped by the road for a bit (edit: changed a wheel), and drove slowly to the end. Said at the end of the stage that he broke a rim which cut the brake line. He's calling it a day. There was a pool of brake fluid...

A shame for Kopecky but he's had plenty of past success here.

I'd rather he had some bad luck than one of the young Czechs or the ERC regulars.
 
On the final stage, Mares had a slow puncture and lost ~30s and probably 3 places. Shame.

Suninen pulled out a terrific stage win and overtook Mabellini overall.

1 Brezik
2 Marczyk
3 Suninen
4 Mabellini
5 Matulka
6 Mares
7 Cais

Brezik looks very good, the next three are within a half-spin of each other, then there's a "bigger" 13s gap to Matulka.

It's been a really good day, every stage I don't know how it's ending until the first 10-12 cars are home.
 
Great close battle between the ERC regulars and everything is still to play for on Day 2. :D

Hopefully I can watch more of the rally live tomorrow after a busy day today... :rolleyes:

Yes, the battle is still on. Very close times. Anybody from the first 4 can still win.

I'm very impressed with Adam Brezik. I know he is one of the top Czech drivers, but didn't expect him to fight for the win here.

Based on speed yesterday, I would not put it past Mares to get a podium.

Edit: he got another puncture in the last 5km of the second Sunday stage. So, perhaps not.

Edit 2: and on the third stage he went off into a field. Said he was optimistic on a corner, hit some pollution, spun off. Car basically OK but some performance loss, maybe exhaust damage.

My favourite Czech, Erik Cais, stopped early in the first Sunday stage and I heard him saying "finish" to spectators and waving them away. So I thought he was out. Then I saw him driving again and looked at ewrc, which said he changed a puncture. Then he got to the stage end interview, where he said he'd lost power and electrics in the car. So, a bit confused...

Mabellini said he did a 5th gear blind corner on a crest and found a marshal in the middle of the road where he wanted to be. No contact, but he seemed quite unhappy.
 
And on the second stage end of the day...
Interviewer: "5 seconds faster than anyone before you. Is this a sign that you are hunting down a podium?"
Mabellini: "To be honest, I went in a ditch."

So going into last stage...
1 Brezik
2 Suninen +17.5
3 Marczyk +25.9
4 Mabellini +26.4
5 Matulka +1:01.1

Brezik, driving at a controlled pace, still denied Mabellini who was very happy with his run a stage win. He looks comfortable.

Suninen looks under control too, it's not that long a stage, he should stay in second.

But there's half a second between Mabellini and Marckzyk.

And also a similar great run of stages by Suninen in the battle of the top ERC guys.

Has he done enough for 2nd place ? I hope so, he deserves it after a super-impressive rally.
