British & Irish Championships 2026

Same as mk92 was reading forum for a while and unable to register. Tried again today when I seen that post and worked. Similar to mk there. From Ireland and thought this year stands out more than any for a long time. We had massive highs and extreme lows. I think from a tarmac championship point of view, this year has really taken on a new lease of life. Hollie McRae has been phenomenal this year. Really set a new standard for the future, though I hope we can hold onto her for a few seasons yet. Also Sam Touzel has breathed a bit of life into rallying here. He's end of stage interviews has been brilliant and he seems to be rubbing off a bit on our own media trained drivers. As someone who grew up in the late 90's and early 00's we seem to be down on drivers from Britain and would love to see more coming over. We seem to be reaping the rewards of the academy and j1000's now as well. So hopefully that will leave the championship in good health for future years. Josh Moffett seems to be in course to win 3 championships this year and with the forestry championship growing year on year I can't wait to see how that championship plays out. Anyway I've rambled on long enough. Great to finally be able to post on the forum one been following for a while. Hopefully I can add something positive to it. Cheers

Welcome @andyru and @mk92 !

Great to have you guys onboard, especially for the Irish scene info. I'm about the only one still commenting about it on here so your input will be very welcome.

Please keep the comments coming and you can also post in the other areas (WRC & ERC) with your views and knowledge.

PS. Hollie McRae mentioned me again a few minutes into the live FB stream :)

Irish forestry championship back this weekend with the first running of the Laois forestry rally on Sunday. While the forestry championship plays third fiddle behind the tarmac and national championships it's been going form strength to strength in the last few seasons. Josh Moffett is back too of the table after a win at the bushwhacker but with Mark Donnelly only a couple of points behind the title fight is going to go down to the wire. Also with 21 j1000's entered hopefully we will get some tight action and a great penultimate round of the championship.

Great to see Garry Jennings on the entry. I think it would be only he's second start after he's big accident in Cavan

I was worried about the Laois rally given how many recreational hiking trails are affected. But it doesn't seem to have been an issue at all. Garry Jennings Malton start is his second since the big accident. First start since Donegal, and in a historic escort thats very exciting.

He did an interview with Killian Duffy a while ago saying he wants to go back to the gravel. He didn't want to take the fiesta out of tarmac spec though. Wonder did he buy the historic

Maybe, plus he might feels he'll be safer on gravel and in a slower car.

Interesting that the car is listed as an RS2000 in class H8. Class H8 is the place for an RS1800 or the Gp4 limited homologation Escort RS. An RS2000 would normally be in H6 unless it's one of those rare cars with a Pinto block and a 16 valve head.

Thanks Steve. The historic class structures in Ireland are different. This clears things up. I was always baffled looking at entry lists for historic rallys run by motorsport UK. Hopefully some day the different associations can standardise the classes. Even if its just for my benefit 🤣

The Motorsport UK rally regulations are in Chapter 13 of the MSUK National Competition Rules here:

The class structure for modern & historic cars is at the end in Appendix 24.

With all eyes on a different European island this weekend, it's the penultimate round of the Irish forestry championship. With dropped points still to be taken into account it's all to play for in the first running of the Laois forestry rally. With drop scores counted it's still Josh Moffett leading the way on 79 with Mark Donnelly 1 behind on 78 and Jordan Hone on 70. A win here could see any driver really stake a claim to the title. With dogleap only a couple of weeks away it could really swing the momentum in a y of the top threes favour

Josh Moffett won he's third championship of the year on Sunday, claiming victory at the inaugural Laois forestry rally. With Mark Donnelly not finishing Josh has clinched the crown with one round to spare

To win the 3 championships took some commitment. Fair play to him. The first Tarmac and National double wasn't achieved until 2011 by Tim McNulty so this is a massive achievement for everyone involved.
