I thought that overall it was a great weekend, and both the Sprint and race were much better than I was expecting. The first few laps of the Sprint showed how drivers were power starved at times and the yo-yo impact it had with drivers dumping energy only to be passed back, but once they settled down it was good.
Lewis did well to snatch the Sprint pole, and proved how well he always drives at Silverstone. Though Kimi managed to get past him in the actual Sprint, at least he got to remind the fans just how good his record is at this track. But Kimi was not to be denied, and did a good job of sizing Lewis up before he made the move. He seemed to be very patient and it showed some growth in the young Italian as well.
The race grid was more of what we might expect, with the exception of Hadjar getting an upper hand on Max for the race start. Sucked to be Kimi or Max during the race, but car failures might be a big story this year. Without cars that stay together and work properly those points dive down fairly quickly.
As for the race finish, they did nothing wrong at all in my opinion. The "SC in" signal should have never been shown, but humans will human at times and nobody caught the issue in time. And with all the cars fully charged only a single lap might have created chaos that took out multiple cars at the front.
For all the whining and crying about these cars, I think they have been giving us some great racing this season. If Spa is no worse than Silverstone I'd say the new regs set is working great myself. They can follow much closer over multiple laps and except when drivers get frustrated and cause the pass and get passed back energy dump, it seems to me most times passing is at least as hard or harder than the previous rule set.
