We came across a rare FJ24 2.4 Nissan 240RS GrpB rally engine for sale, it would go well in our mk2 but we havent been able to find as much info on it as we would like.. rumour has it that Gwyndaf Evans used to run one in a mk2 escort many years ago and he rated it very highly, suggesting that rebuild intervals were incredibly long and that he had run one for 3 seasons with only basic maintenance during that period... ???
We know its all steel, that only 200-250 were ever sold in the UK and the performance specs but are unsure of its reliability, service intervals or how much of a problem obtaining spare parts would be..
All help apreciated, thanks..

Though the FJ24 is a rare engine, it has many components the same as FJ20E
and FJ20ET production engines. Aside from the piston size, the main difference is
the cylinder head with bigger valves and larger, oval inlet tracts, IIRC.
I found this Australian website with a lot of information, even photos of a Mk1 Escort with FJ20!

Also, Rob Wylie in New Zealand competes in classic rallies with a Nissan 240RS.
He should be contactable through the Rally New Zealand office.

Dominique the cylinder diameter is 92mm on the FJ24 and 89mm for the FJ20.
I would imagine the block is unique to the FJ24, especially when we see the main bearings (cousinettes) journals are so much bigger at about 60mm vs the FJ20 at 55mm.
Looks like you need a real FJ24 block.
There were a fairly good number of FJ24s used in Stadium mini-truck racing here in USA, Rod Millen and his brother Steve Millen both drove those and might be able to suggest where the parts have gone.

I've been searching for the correct distributor and cap for a long time for a FJ20, and some hotter cams!

I think Derek Ayson ran a fj24 in his MK2 Escort and it went quite well.
What has your mk 2 got in it at the moment ?
The modern/ classic escorts can have engines like ford zetec2 litre, honda v-tec 2 litre or toyota power.

Its a Vaux XE on carbs with aprox 220-230bhp which still remains in use but we are in the finishing stages of building a new tarmac car, we had so many ideas that it was easier to build from scratch than modifying JAP (the old forrest spec car)
The new tarmac spec mk2...
We decided it best to go for something that would be easier to source parts for and opted for a JRE all steel XE stroked out to 2.3 running on Jenveys.. its putting out 293bhp with aprox 240lb/ft of torque and revs to 9k plus.. through a Glebe T5 big tooth box to a fully floating Atlas, big brakes, lots of Kevlar and carbon fibre etc etc.. should be quite potent. :) We've moved as much weight to the centre of the car as possible for best possible PMI, all will be revealed in due course. It looks truely stunning and should be ready in the spring. Thinking of getting the Classic Ford mag to do a feature on the car.
