I'm going for the first time this year and I'm just wondering if anyone has any reccomendations of stages to visit, and what to avoid.
Also, I was wondering if it is worthwhile to go on the Friday as well as the Saturday, because there are only 2 stages on Friday (and they are night stages aren't they?).

If anyone has any views, opinions or anything I'd like to hear.

Not sure about saturday as il be going to that day of the rally for the 1st time myself. Friday is worth going for as its free and you can get fairly close to the action :D

2 Weeks after the Wyedean, and another quality rally to attend :D

Stage plans so far - Uddens, Wareham and then Ringwood, should be a good day, bring on the 6R4s, and if any of you true rally fans listen closely enough to Craig Bennets engine note in his 6R4 you might notice it sounds very similar to a certain red Peugeots OLD engine note ;)

Don't going to bother with the Friday night (think it's just a mickey mouse spectator stage) and to be honest since the scrapping of Avon Park/St Leonards (really miss not being able to stand on the kart track and watch them round a long, sweeping bend) we just go to stages that fit in best with the time we want to get out of bed.

I think we went to Wareham last year (where AB retired) and was quite good so probably head back there.

Wareham is only being used once this year and in the middle of the day too.

MrJan
8th February 2008, 21:38
Lame. Seem to remember that last year it fitted in perfectly. Quite a difficult one cos it's quite far away from the other stages I think.

Well this rally is only a week away now (wahoo) and I was wondering which are the best stages to watch. Ideally I want to see some really fast sections, but they need to be easy-ish to get to and not far from others. I know, I dont ask much do I!?

I go there almost every year but never remember anything and like the Wyedean it'll be based on when we want to leave rather than what stage we'll go to. Bit gutted really because I miss my third Exeter City game of the season but rallying is so much better it just has to win :D

Senor Cosworth is likely to have the best advice and if anyone has proper stage times and maps then please share all. I've got some maps from last year but usually find out that stages are runnning in the other direction ro somethign.

Stage times here http://www.rallyesunseeker.co.uk/Spectators/spec.htm#

We are thinking of going to the first stage, then grid law then Plumley wood to finish :D

MrJan
20th February 2008, 18:11
Cheers for the link

I was up around Bournemouth for work today and had a drive past Wareham/ Grid Law. If you are approaching from the Exeter side the signs to Car Park D lead you on right runaround that takes you on what is probably a 20-30 minute detour when a much easier route takes less than five minutes.

Shame that this stage is in the middle of the day being as it's so far out from all the others.

Allyc85
21st February 2008, 21:48
Thanks for the info, might give that one a miss. It would have made sense for them to run it as the first one of the day before moving to the stages closer together.

MrJan
21st February 2008, 23:47
Touble is that it's a good stage and there is nothing else on around that time. Seem to remeber that it was reasonably interesting last year, especially on the second run as the stage was rutted really badly.

Only saw 3 6r4s at Uddens this morning, Philiskirk, Larbey and a Yellow one that sounded a bit rough.

Had a good time but it's expensive and a pain how far you have to walk. Sort of saw an accident at Grid Law, scooby went end over end, but sadly I missed most of it as was behind the camera (sadly also missed photos of it)

Was my first event with a new camera so spent most of it taking photos, although most were a bit more. As with the Wyedean they'll all be on Flickr and I'll post a few of the best in a minute :D

Three of my favourites. Each on has been cropped (only very slightly with the first two) but that is all the editing I can ever be bothered to do.

Got back a few hours ago after a day and bits great rallying.

Friday night was great apart from the ignorant w*****s who thought they were "special" enough to stand infront of us!! Then today we went to Sommerly park for two very good stages and to finish it off we went to the last stage of the day.

Im now sat with a few cold beers sorting my pics out :D

Not really that dusty just a lot of gravel and sand being thrown up (walked back down the stage at the end and it was like being at the beach)

I have a question, guys. The winning car - Hyundai Accent WRC is in class B13 according to the results. What does it mean? How is it changed from standard WRC car? Thank You for any explanation.

m.lowe
24th February 2008, 16:25
Its a pukka WRC car but thats the class it runs in on national rallies here, plus it has a paddle shift gearchange which I dont think was homologated to the Hyundai
I maybe wrong

Yea basically he has modified it from its basic homogolation, though someone with more info might be able to tell you what he has done to it :)

Sorry - I'd love to but because it was my first effort with the camcorder I saved all my stuff in the wrong format - something to do with VR and VF modes!
I know there were others around me though who got it so there should be something on Youtube soon !

Yeah was looking all over the place for pictures or footage of it. Shame it happened really though as it ruined the corner when everyone was being slowed down.

Yeah I was a bit gutted because Dodds, Burton and in particular my boy Moore splattered me with gravel, and even a few after that, and I got a few good snaps - the best part of the rally so far despite the gash on my head!

Then a stupid 16 year old marshall slowed them all down, even after the car had been removed and there was no more danger - rallying in England is becoming to health and safety orientated I think - I mean in Rally GB the marshalls are ridiculously pedantic - rallying should be about some men crowding roads with cars just scraping there face or camera lense IMO!

On another topic, has anyone got any photos of Stephen Moore? Pics appreciated.

While I agree, after what happened in 2001 at Rally GB too fresh in the memory, this what is likely to happen. Just look at GB now, you can't go were you want- and are miles back. Fortunately most National events are pretty relaxed and you can go were you want - within reason.

Nice pics paddockman. That one of Burton is impressive.

Nice vids astraracer. Good to see the 6R4S, I wondered if I'd really missed out but seems like the display runs were fairly tame. Still it's nice that so many turned up on one day and are still running

Just uploading some of mine now. Only got three, one of Dodd, one of Burton (of course) and one of Philliskirk.

Surprised you can't see me on Jans vid as I was just abit closer to the corner, here's a short video, it's of the top 3 finishers, only got to 2 stages as we decided it wasn't worth the waiting around we'd have to endureat Ringwood , and that was after watching ALL cars through Ringwood!

I'm not sure about some of the blokes in Subarus but it seems that lot of cars on the mainland are Hyundais, or old Focuses and Imprezas.
