I'm really looking forward to see Mads Østberg with his brand new Subaru S12b in Sweden. The car Atkinson and Solberg used to achive 3rd and 5th in Monte. Since they are not a works team, they are alowed to use parts as Rieger dampers (Ford only as a works team). Mads have said himself that car is really easy to drive, the engine is powerfull...

Maybe he will give Solberg a figth??

No chance - Petter will get a podium, - I am very interested in Group N, and think that Eyvind Brynildsen will do well. Of the 2 Norwegian young guys in WRC's I do think Mads will beat Mikkelsen.

Reiger, Dutch rally glory :D has also involved wit Suzuki for long term (JWRC). This season Reiger supplied also their suspension to Suzuki WRC team. Ford is a long term partner.

Great threadstart with all those links and stuff! Think the ts should do that every time. I am really looking forward to the rally, Sebastien Loeb will be hard to beat i think, but off course Mikko and Jari-Matti will do everything so Loeb don't will repeat his 2004 result!

Urmo Aava tested for 130 kilometers this weekend near Karlstad. He said ground was frozen and it was snowing and it was difficult to drive. He said he used Loeb settings from last year and did not change it too much, just the suspension and centre diff a little bit. He also said it would take time to get used to this car and to drive it really fast.

This rally will show how Hirvo can cope with the no1 status in the Ford team. Is a rally which he must win and I don't know how he can keep his cool with this thought. He is the favorite for this one. We know he has the speed to do it but I don't know how he can cope with the pressure of the favorite. Loeb is ultra cool and ofcourse ultra fast. He is gonna fight and will not let Mikko relax at any point. This will be very interesting and exciting fight to watch.
We wait and see...!

Yes.

Sorry, only in Swedish: http://www.gp.se/gp/jsp/Crosslink.jsp?d=113&a=399046

Short terms: Three drivers; three trucks; all have a heavy bender during the last night before the ferry arrives in Göteborg. The ferry crew calls the police and they check them out. One manages to get away before the police strikes - he is M.I.A. (possibly camps somewhere on a not so heavily traficated road to get the alcohol out of his system before risking bumping into the cops again). The other two are busted, one is even so drunk that he's currently under arrest and the trucks (with cars and gear on) are for now impounded.

Also did read somewhere that no company here can right now "take over" the shipment. Maybe trouble with insurance or toll declarations?

If its only logistics issue, I think they will sort it out. I just worried about any legal issues related to the offence that will prevent the release of the trucks.
Normally, it shouldn't be.

The story about Loeb's C4 being held in Göteborg, appears to be completely wrong. The trucks did a transport for Citroën, not for Citroën Sport. Citroën Sport has red trucks, remember?

In this rally we will see is hirvonen can hold his cool...I don't expect Loeb to drive on the limit and aim for the win but i surely think that he will drive to just apply constant pressure on Hirvonen.

I think so too - Seb doesn't need to win in Sweden.

ZequeArgentina
4th February 2008, 21:29
He does not need to win for his chances, but a win by Mikko would be a strong jump in his confidence.
In this sense, surely Seb will want to win, in order to keep all others thinking he is the only real candidate for 2008 crown (which I think is the case)

I can't remember when Mikko has finished in front of Loeb in Sweden so, why should he need to win in Sweden more than on the gravel rallys?

WRCfan
5th February 2008, 08:16
For Mikko to win in Sweden would be a great bost to his championship fight mentally. Being mentally strong and confident counts for a lot when it comes to other rallies especially when hes chasing or being chased by Loeb.

Will be interesting. As others have said, Loeb doesnt need to push so hard as he knows there is the rest of the championship but he willpush Mikko all the way to the finish for sure...

Daniel Carlson says in Värmlands Folkblad that he for the first time since 2005 gets payed to drive. I think Loeb will be too strong. Hirvonen was quick in Norway last year, but in Sweden he didn't show the same pace. Hope he is quicker this year though. Should be a good fight :)

Well, in order to fight for the title, he needs to crab more points than Loeb right? We all know there's no way Mikko can't challenge Loeb on tarmac so that's immediately five rallyes as an underdog. On tarmac Loeb is unbelievably fast too, should it be slow or fast gravel. So basicly Mikko has rally Finland, Sweden, GB, Japan and NZ where he actually has a chance to win. Elsewhere Loeb needs to have problems to be beaten. And we all know how many problems Loeb have per season. Mikko will needs all the points possible and then some more.

Does that answer to your question :)

I got back to my warm lovely home, and my mum's food last night, nice to be back in Karlstad. I will be going to Färjestad to check out the recce soon, and will check out the shakedown, probably taking a few photos.

The Swedish championship starts onb Friday at Karlstad SSS 19:35
Then they drive the last three stages of the day on Saturday and Sunday:
Saturday:
SS12 Horsjön 2 14:50
SS13 Hagfors 2 16:00
Service Hagfors 15 min 16:30
SS14 Vargåsen 2 17:35
Service Hagfors 45 min 18:40

Sunday:
SS18 Ullen 2 13:10
Service Hagfors 15 min 13:40
SS19 Lesjöfors 2 14:55
SS20 Rämmen 2 15:25
Service Hagfors 10 min 16:10
Finish Karlstad Rally Village 17:30

These are rough times for the start of the SM.

And yes there will be Volvos and all sorts of cars running :)

There was Jarmo Lehtinen's interview in Veikkaaja magazine this week and he said they are a bit worried about the Pirelli tyres for Sweden because quality related problems they had with the tyres during the test session for Rally Sweden.

Hopefully Pirelli has been able to fix the problem otherwise rally can be a bit of lottery...

This is the shakedown, in Karlstad. The stages up north are a lot better. Stensjön for example has 60 cm snowbanks in some places. No worries. The only threat of cancellation of stages is for the Swedish championship (my opinion)

Interesting inteview with Bosse:
http://www.vf.se/Sport/Extra/2008/Svenska-Rallyt-2008/Rallykungen-Marcus-Gronholms-nya-liv.aspx
For those of you who do not speak swedish that good:
He amongst other things talks abt his new shoppingmall, and his new restaurant named Sågen, after the Swedeish SS, which is filled with rally-memories. There are still photos missing of Stig Blomqvist and Björn Waldegård though. He did not want to name it "Monte Carlo" because he wanted something more down to earth, and USR is his fav-rally. He has also built a new cottage i Trysil, where Schumacher used to have a house (but I think he sold it...?)
He says the he maybe will drive the USR again sometime, but he thinks it can be a little dangerous because he wants to win, and he can´t to that if the car is not top of the line. He will attend this years USR.
He is also thinking a little bit abt Rallycross although he hasn´t tried it. He jokes abt borrowing one of Andreas eriksson Fords (Andreas who btw had a huge off in USR 05 I think, he went of hitting a sturdy tree with the floor of the car. think Andreas and his co-driver is a little bit shorter then they used to be ;) )
The paper also reveals something which was news to me, not only Petter but also Henning has imported wifes from Värmland, allthough henning was the first to pick :)

Yes, gravel started to come out after a couple of cars. I think most of it came from the cars cutting through the ditches, where there would normally be snowbanks. Ruts started forming too. There will certainly be some gravel on the second run of the stages tomorrow and saturday and sunday. Although it wasn't too bad. After roughly 2½ hours of the stage had gone, there was a FIA Safety car that went through (I think to check the condition of the stage) and rally cars kept coming after that so they must have been happy with it.

It's not worse than in 2005.

Saturday I will be at Hagfors (East side of Lill-Ullen) and Sunday I will be either at Lesjöfors (Mid stage) or Rämmen (Finish)
Looking forward to the weekend.

]It is Josef's way of starting succesfull season :D In 2006 he rolled in opening rally and become a sprintrally champion. In 2007 he made two rolls in the beginning of season and become N4 Champion in middle champioship and overal vice-champion (we had three last year)...

At least i will remember this guy for a long time... :)

Anyone know why Atkinson was so slow on the SS? 7s is a lot to lose on a stage like that.

His launch control failed so he stalled out on takeoff.
