View Full Version : Wyedean 2008

I know it's still a week away but (tragic events aside) the Wyedean last year is probably the best rally I've been to. It says a lot when even the last 1400 car is just as exciting as any of the 4 wheel drive lads. So get your barometers out and try a little snow dance cos I want them forests to be white again next Saturday :D

Entry list - http://www.wyedeanrally.co.uk/entry.html
Lots of WRC cars this season and nice to see Julian Wilkes out :burnout: Hims a nutter
Stage Info - http://www.wyedeanrally.co.uk/Description%20of%202008%20SPECTATOR%20CAR%20PARKS. pdf
Link might not work but it's easy enough to find from the entry list. Some might not understand the little numbers but they're called map references and can be used to find places using a MAP ;) (Sorry I just don't like sat nav)

It was indeed, Stevenage were terrible but City looked sublime. The fourth goal was a fantastic team goal and a joy to watch :bounce:
Ontopic ;) The Wyedean can sometimes be a bit limp (same with most rallies) but if it provides half as much excitement as last year it'll be worth the trip (and the bloody bridge toll). Especially when you consider how well the event caters for spectators and that it's only 5 quid which lets you go to any stage. If only all rallies did this.

£5, bargain! Where do you pay, at the first car park you go to? Also which are the best stages to go to, especially to get some pictures?
MrJan
5th February 2008, 14:34
Don't know about pictures as my brother usually organises everything but the car parks you pay at the first one and get a little ticket thing which is transferable to all car parks  The one downside is the stupid time I have to get up :)

Cheers for all the information matey, me and my mum are definetly going now, should be great :D

I tried to get my Mum to go but she refused. Don't think she's been rallying since we saw Pat Doran roll on Haldon. Shows how long ago that was because Pat Doran hasn't been rallying for years and there hasn't been much on Haldon either.
So looks like it'll be me and the old man again.

Can't wait for Saturday, should be a nice dry too :D :D Will be in Serridge all day and should hopefully get some good video, am filming for the event DVD by mc-video.co.uk
Heading to Scrutineering tomorrow afternoon too, will post some pics when I get back

Might head to Serridge too. Ended up there for the second run last year and the slush (as it was by the afternoon) made it a bit boring so I had to amuse myself by making a 4 foot diameter snow ball, good times

My Dad has organised where we're heading but think he was looking at trying the ambitious 2,3,5,7 but it is always open to change. The good thing about these events is that you can use the 1400s to your advantage. We can watch most of the field at stage 2, miss the 1400s on 3 and arrive for the main lot. Watch pretty much the whole field and catch the 1400s on 5 before moving on to 7.
Bring on the first gravel event of the year (my first since the Somerset Stages last year
Takes a fair amount of effort and you always risk missing something but usually if you work out how long the 1400 field take to run you can have a fair idea of when you'll need to get to the next stage.

Busy day!!
Managed to get to all 4 stages but missed the top ten or 15 at 3 due to indecision on the first stage.
Day started off fairly eventfully when Barry spun his Evo up the road and came to a stop neatly right in front of us. I was already heading for the trees but there was no really need :)
Second stage was largely uneventful but got a few photos and videos. The third one we got to was geat as a bunch of Irish lads were stood next to us having a laugh and singing songs, great fun. Also Sebastian Ling stopped right in front of us because he had a holed radiator. The Irish lads used twigs, chewing gum and drinking water to get him to the end of the stage
Final stage was a bit dull but still fairly enjoyable. And so it is I find myself back home with no idea of the result and lots of very blurry photos. A selection of my best (that's a relative term ;) ) should be at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7887315@N02/ if not just search on Flickr for people called Jan Yeo. There are two results and I'm the only one actually called Jan Yeo :D PLease note that I haven't cropped any even though many would look much better if I could be bothered.

Twas a great day, big thanks to Mr Jan Yeo for pointing this rally out to us :)
We had a great time at stage 3 (Sallowvattes) with a Tegsport impreza spinning infront of us and showering us with mud and rocks :D . Burtons 306 was right on song around the hairpin n sounded stunning as always!!
After that we nipped accross to stage 6, Serridge 2. We stood in a stupidly dangerous place just after a wet patch on the outside of the bend when they must have been doing 80-90mph, but it was worth it!! Well that was until the long stoppage which only slightly spoilt things.
Any who il be sorting out my pictures tomorrow and the vids when ever youtube is playing ball lol

Great day I must say, weather helped. Went to Serridge 1 then Speech House - yeah Burton was on it, is there a better sight in National Rallying??
Lots of speccies out, and not all stood in safe places, especially Speech House - personally I would have moved a lot of them - standing on the outside of quick corners, mmmm not good.

To be honest I was very suprised we wernt moved on Serridge 2 but the Safety vehicle just flew by us at a fast pace. There was even a bloke next to me taking pics with one foot on the stage while taking pics which was going a little too far. Still its a million times better than the sheep pens of the WRC :)

Just been looking at some of your older rallying pics. There's one of an Impreza in the ditch which you probably took stood about 10 feet in front of me :)

Some nice pictures. Like some of your other stuff to such as a picture of the General LDV at what looks to be Smeatharpe. Seen it driving around town and the first time I saw it I'd heard it coming looked out the window to see what it was expecting to see a Mustang or something and this bloody LDV van drives past, great stuff :D

Well had a cracking day yesterday, was a brilliant way to start the year was great to be in the Forest of Dean again and the entry was just superb! Had two good spots in Serridge, was at an incident packed spot for the first one which was entertaining :D Roll on 2009, where I shall hopefully be competing!
