No-not another CMR2 championship, but I often conduct "one-offs" during a season, so why not do so under the guise of the European Rally Championship? :D

The Arctic Rally is a round of the ERC traditonally held about the time of the Monte, so it's an appropriate title.

I typically do these one-offs as a warm up for either a new surface to be encountered on the WRC, or when we have a large break in the schedule. I encourage the sharing of set-ups as this is meant to be educational as well as competitive...

RALLY DETAILS

Stages: Sweden Mirrored Expert Mode (you'll be submitting 11 stage times)
Shakedown: Sweden Mirrored SS9

Route Details (PAY CLOSE ATTENTION)
Rally proceeds as follows:

Sweden Mirrored SS1-SS2
NO CUTTING ACROSS THE SNOW DRIFTS ON STAGE 2 (THAT MEANS YOU, JSO1985  )
NO REPAIR OR SETUP CHANGES AFTER SS2

Sweden Mirrored SS3-SS4
SERVICE AND REPAIRS ALLOWED

Sweden Mirrored SS5-SS6
NO REPAIR OR SETUP CHANGES AFTER SS6

Sweden Mirrored SS7-SS8
SERVICE AND REPAIRS ALLOWED

Sweden Mirrored SS9-SS10
SERVICE AND REPAIRS ALLOWED

Sweden Mirrored SSS11

***The preceeding route will make for a more realistic rally (it's a bit silly to allow as many service stops as in the game). Consequences for damage will be much greater, so competitors will need to be fast, and safe in order to acheive a good finish*****

Times due Saturday, January 12 at midnight......

Have fun!

Heh, heh Tannat you Legend! Here you are again organising another great Rally!
I'll be using the Corolla, as TTE has asked us to test it for the coming Championship.

Rat - "TTE"??

I shall be joining Rat in my new Carolla, hopefully earning some more valuable experience, all provided I can get some time together. Rules don't state it all has to be done on th same day, does it, as a 3 day rally?

We'll just be Red Bull Rally Team and if TTE wants in, we'll discuss it then, ok?
Get practising, we'll need it this year...

Actually this MUST be done in one day as it is done in expert game mode, start to finish....

If you have to break it up let me know and I'll have to devise some penalty

Sorry, Pawprint...

Pawprint, TTE don't want to know us. So it's up to us to show the others how to Rally this year, enjoy!

Rat
10th January 2008, 11:38
The Toyota went well during the shakedown testing..
best time we had was 1:28.18 and it was a personal best as well! It is more stable than the Focus and faster! We should do well this year.

Pawprint
10th January 2008, 12:19
I have to say that despite some dodgy moments in shakedown, I really enjoyed doing this rally!

My setup remained the same throughout, with the Gearbox at 25%, and the Break Power and Stearing at around 75%.

Has some hairy moments, especially on SS3 and SS5, but overall, I am very pleased with my first ever rally on the forum, and one of my first proper rally's on cmr2!

I don't know what went wrong on stages 7 and 8, but we just didn't have the pace, for a reason that I cannot fathom (Any Vicar of Dibley fans?), and were a bit off-form on stage 9 as well. 2 late pacenotes (seriously) sent us off on SS10, losing a lot more time than I would have imagined, but SS11 went all to plan, finnishing on a good note, although the time didn't reflect that.

So, enjoyed my first rally, and me and the Toyota are getting to know each other well. We probably didn't do too well, but hopefully a good enough start :)

For the WRC I will also have a new co-driver, so things may be different again there.

Shakedown:
1. 1.26.??
2. 1.25.32 - changed steering setup
3. 1.27.46 - new brake setup, not good
4. 1.24.85 - back to setup from second run
5. 1.23.98 - improved my driving

My record is 1.22. I don't like this stage, corners are too tight. :D

Has some hairy moments, especially on SS3 and SS5, but overall, I am very pleased with my first ever rally on the forum, and one of my first proper rally's on cmr2!Quite normal, the only thing the brakes do at 75% is lock up. Try to use 25% brake power, it will go better. And biased towards the front. ;)

My setup was a medium short gearbox, very hard suspension, power and brakes biased towards the front and very weak braking power.

Pawprint
10th January 2008, 14:10
I tried with the power towards the front, but struggled.

Marcel Haenen
10th January 2008, 14:30
I use the brakes biased towards the rear to be able to brake the car into a corner. I normally have teh power ratio slightly towards the front to pull it out of the oversteer created by the braking when I hit thr throttle again.

Juha
10th January 2008, 22:46
I've tried the rear biased braking too, but I'm struggling with it. Most corners on this stage are slow and I always end up sideways into the advertising boards.

Quite embarrassing really...

I have miss placed my times! Luckily I have sent them to Tannat for the results.
Anyway, we set some good times and a few PB's as well! Very surprising with a new car and Team. The spped and control was different to the Focus, we could just hold it wide open without it falling off the road! I think it was Stage 7 or 10 that had us in a huge, high speed spin, at 100mph+ it sure gets your attention. Surprisingly there was little damage throughout the Rally, just some bodywork and the Gearbox locking up a couple of times.
Good luck to all and let's see who has been out practicing during the off season...

1:27.34 lousy driving
1:27.80 see above
1:25.08 better
1:24.86
1:24.82

I think I could have the car set up a dozen different ways and achieve the same time. I varied front to rear drive split and suspension and it seemed to make little diff.

What did make a difference were my lines, keeping on the 'proper' track, and out of the drifts....

Juha

My rally raport:
1: went wide a few times, lost +- 4 seconds
2: head on encounter with future IKEA cupboard (should it be Koti Idea in Finland?)
3: good drive
4: started to lose concentration and drove like on stage 1
5: same thing
6: and again
7: decent drive, but could a few seconds better
8: worthless, back to old habits
9: only one mistake
10: good stage to end the day
11: not much to say

I can say this was a bad run, next time I won't be driving around midnight. :D

If I am unable to get the rally done tonight I'll post results tomorrow and will miss this one.

Up to first service fairly decent times. Very little repair work and no setup changes at first service. Made some blunders on SS6, and a setup change for the worse at the second service. Probably lost 5-7 seconds on the superspecial.
