The great Indian nation dumps us. Good for them and many will follow.

Descendants of the American Indian chiefs Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse yesterday declared their independence from the United States, announcing they were withdrawing from treaties signed with the federal government 150 years ago.

Russell Means: 'We are no longer citizens of the United States'

The Lakota Indians, whose territory includes parts of Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming, sent a delegation to the State Department in Washington to deliver the news.

"We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us," said Russell Means, an Indian rights activist.

Are those areas mineral rich or just casino rich?

Let's have a bet on how long it will take before the US invades them. I'd bet about 10 years. Bush doesn't have time, so it will be up to the next republican president. Then he will need a year or two to convince the Americans and the British Prime Minister that the Indian nation is an imminent threat to the security of the US, the American people and the whole "international community". Maybe he will claim they are hiding terrorists and nuclear weapons in the basement of their casino and are buddies with Hugo Chavez.

Did I forget to mention how Eki would make it about the US being evil?

You may have missed the mention I reckon.

Um, intriguing. I'm sure it won't change a huge amount of what happens currently in those states.

Although a bit worried about anyone who joins the new tax-free zone, because it could get awfully dense very quick... :p :

I guess they have to take a ticket and wait in line

Okay ... all you Lakota Indians can be your own country ...
so now you cannot depend on the USA for ANYTHING & you are not welcome in the USA ...
the USA will also now build a wall around your country ...
you are not allowed in the USA, nor are USA citizens or ANYONE else allowed to visit your country ...
your borders will be completely sealed ... enjoy your country while you exist ... http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/tongue-anim.gif

You mean "Cubanizing" them?

I would agree that no aid should be forthcoming but denying them travel would be petty and vindictive.

Cannot depend on the USA for anything, except building walls and making decisions regarding traveling/emigration for them?

oh oh... they sent a note to the Bolivian embassy in Washington letting them know about their independence claiming "we" were an inspitation for them... :s

Careful, that idea might catch on. Americans might learn to do math (even in public) and figure out how much of our tax dollars go to various beggar states around the world... while our Social Security system accelerates deeper into insolvency. Pay money in, but get nothing back?! Heck, there are crooked-nosed guys in New York and Baltimore that'll give better financial deals than that!

Eliminate all of the aid (foreign welfare) and there might be mass heart attacks in certain countries around the world. Japan would have to fund its own defense. Israel would have to make do without the 30%+ of American foreign aid (not counting the gift/loans) that's earmarked for it each year. Good golly, Miss Molly! How will they do it? Answer: they won't.

If this Lakota country/state is going to be an income tax free zone, I might move there too. Walls? I ain't afraid of no stinkin' walls! Like my compadres to the south, I can climb too. Maybe I could get involved in the building of some housing units on the rez, maybe get a position in the private militia... and get a cool Sioux name to boot: Dances With Brunettes or Big Little Man or Runs Fast On Bald Tires.

Lakota Forever! We don't die, we multiply!

No, but you can emigrate to Spain if you're not happy.

Have they been granted independence?

If other indian reserves decide to leave, could states follow suit?

They haven't been granted anything and they won't be granted anything. This is nothing more than a political fantasy. There is a greater chance that Champ Car and the IRL will kiss and make up, and that Michael Schumacher and Jeff Gordon will be teammates in a McLaren entry at the Indy 500 next Memorial Day weekend.

Now, George Bush being made the honorary President of Mexico? That... that might happen. I feel that he deserves the job.

Viva, El Presidente Jorge!!!

Only if he learns to speak Mexican.

That seems unfair. He can't speak English, yet we let him be President of the U.S.

OK, considering the past 7 years, that may not be a good example. Let me get back to you on that one.

I can't do it that easy, Spain doesn't reconigze me any right as my family emigrated from Spain and Italy more than 300 years ago. So basically I'm just Bolivian and you could emigrate to Spain easier than me
