I'm not at all surprised that he can drive faster than a cab driver! :p :

With all the times he has now if you send him an invitation he might do it! ;)

I hope he was covered by the required insurance and didn't break any speed limits, or risk the safety of other road users!

Reminds me of a similar story when Senna raced in Britain.

Senna was testing or racing at Donington Park and he wanted to see his friend Mauricio Guglemin over at Snetterton. The journey usually takes over 3hrs, Senna did it in two and a half hours!

I know he got a tug by the fuzz over here, and the rozzer is quoted as saying to him "who do you think you are, Nigel Mansell"

Bet that went down like a lead balloon......

I thought the story went "who do you think you are, Ayrton Senna?" I think he was taken to the nearest cop shop and one of the colleagues said "you've just knicked the Ayrton Senna", by which time Senna was escorted to Silverstone.

Better than punting out the opposition in DTM like other F1 champions. :p :

Nice to see Michael's still got it then! :p I love these kind of stories, great we now have a Schumacher one too! ;)

I still love the Jean Alesi story when he retired from the Italian GP in either '93 or '95 ('95 I think IIRC) and drove back from Monza to Avignon in a raging temper in his Ferrari F40, and was caught on French speed traps at around 180+MPH... The French newspapers the following day merely carried an 'Allez Jean!' story, and were all pretty impressed.. Shame the British police are too damn miserable to enjoy F1 drivers driving fast!

And anyone who has read Sid Watkins' books knows many stories about Gilles Villeneuve on the road... ;)

Those stories are nothing to be proud of and paint a not very favourable picture of Gilly.
Public roads are not for racing, they are for the general public.

You are right. Entertaining stories they may be, they do send a bad message.

Hope Schuey stuck to the road rules!

He may be punished for what he did according to this article:

He needs to drive in Russia, there are strict laws governing driving. One must go the proper speed at the usual checkpoints which never move, where reasonably possible, swerve to avoid pedesterians so as to not damage the car, never yield right of way, never follow lane markings or worry over on-coming traffic, never follow anyone, and never be passed by anyone, except where your car has the throttle open to the max, the other car has more horsepower and the other car has managed to avoid your swerves intended to keep him behind.

I agree with that

I like the stories about crazy driving, but when you think about it, it's something that shouldn't be done.

Sid Watkins tells of a story when he had met Gilles in the lobby of a hotel in Sao Paulo. Gilles had offered Sid a ride to the circuit at Interlagos in a rented car that Gilles and his wife Joann were using. When they stepped into the car, Joann insisted that she sit in the back and it didn't take long for Sid to see why. Supreme confidence or sheer lunacy?

Donaldson's book is full of them as well Osella. Simply amazing!

Sounds like Schumi is a bit frustrated. I bet he drives the ass of a lawnmover? Not to mention a golf cart. Or does he play golf?

Seriously, driving too fast is irresponsible and he should be punished regardless of his wdc´s.

And besides, hos driving style isnt exactly ideal for public roads. Certainly not, if you ask Jacques, Damon or Mika :)
