Round 2 of the International GT Series sees competitors headed north of the equator to the track in Shanghai, China. With incredibly long straights high horsepower cars are certain to have an advantage, but there are some tricky handling sections as well.

RACE DETAILS

Track: Shanghai

Qualifying: Time Trial mode, please sunbmit to this thread and Codies HoF

Laps: 10 Simulation mode
AI: 50%
Max Tire Hardness: 0.20

Corner cutting off (two wheels on at all times), all other driving controls on except pro-sim

Please submit fastest lap and overall time by PM to me by Sunday, December 16 at midnight.

Had my first session at Shanghai...don't really like this course that much...not an easy track at all to get a good set up...

It's quite a bizarre cirsuit, JS. Very long straights, but some twisty sections that will have you at the extremes of your steering limits

ohhhhhh another of those circuits that was designed by plopping a bunch of speghettie noodles on a table.

interesting circuit, just lacks character in my mind. seems too contrived.

looking very forward to getting the 'vette out on it nevertheless though! :up:

I'm going for a no pit strategy...I just did a practice run with no camber changes & driving conservatively...the last two laps were on reds but I still managed to get through...not sure if its the best strategy...maybe one pit stop is the go but you do lose 30secs +....& this has to be made up in 5 laps!!! The best strategy will go a long way in achieving a good finish in this Rd.

I must say, much to my great surprise, I ended up liking this track (to come degree). I just find these Herman Tilke designed tracks weird - very complicated to learn & find the rhythem.

For starters, they don't flow like 'real' roads at all, and most circuits flow like real roads would...heck, many started off as real roads.

or, maybe it's just because I'm too old to learn new stuff. Like, you know how they say a kid can learn a new language easily before a certain age, but then your brain gets all wired and it becomes much more difficult.

I think one big thrust with this track and Malaysia was exposure of track to the spectators. Have a look at the long straights-plenty of track length to place some prime spectator seating...

yeah, and it's supposed to encourage passing, too, with those hard braking zones at the ends of the straigts.

maybe that's another thing that makes his tracks weird - they're designed for the spectaters instead of the drivers.

oh yeah, another thing - the corner markers are designed for F1 cars - on the longer straights I had to start braking wayyyy before I ever get to the braking markers!

(I'm glad we ran this track though, tannat, I've been wanting to learn it for a while)

yeah, they did. It was supposed to be my first touring car race ever.

but we did the races at 110% AI... I qualified last and the field just drove away from me.

so I packed up and went home early :(

so, now I feel a certain amount of redemption :D

sorry, missed that from the last thread, no I didn't pit, I was praying for the final laps for the tires not to blow out, I was running pretty slow to get the car from spinning out in the final laps

just ran my race, I love this track. I pitted one lap too late as when I went into turn one, I almost spun and lost control, I was able just to slide around the corner, but losing some time. I picked up alittle in Qualifying but forgot to post to Codies, I already changed games in the PS2, but I will post them later today

The Vuko TVR Team improved their qualifying times....Vuko Snr shaving almost a second off his previous best....however his son then posted an even quicker time.......in the race it was a similar story...nothing between the two but this time Vuko Snr was able to just pip Jnr over the 10 laps....a great contest between the two team drivers!

ran my race

thought I could do better after the first attempt

2nd attempt was less than a 1/2 second better, however time was lost because I blew my RR tire coming out of the 2nd to last corner!

finished the race on 3 wheels - nascar short-track style :)

That was a very hard race. I'm not expecting to win because I lost the rear-right tyre on the last lap at very tight right corner (that one after the longest straight) so I lost about 8-10 seconds on this lap. Strange, in the same place as Johnny. 0.20 tire hardness is really too soft for me and my setup :) .

For the second time in two races PiotrB and Hollydog share the front row with the TVR taking pole. The Vukos sweep row two with Robzee and the Corvette of JShell in row three. The Ultima's of Harvick and Tannat complete the grid with Jon Brown being a no-show for this round.

A markedly diffeerent track than Adelaide brings about markedly different results! Crossing the line first and just over 5 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor was Piotr B in the TVR. Robzee takes second, followed very closely by the Vuko pair, with Peter edging son Steven by 16/100ths of a second! Succumbing to a blown tire of the final lap of the race is Hollydog in the Corvette C5R, followed by JShell in the second vette in 6th. A lap down in the final position was Harvick in the Ultima, winner of category 2. The Ultima of Tannat was unable to start the race :(
