My favourite would be Muse, they should definetly be up there as one of the best Modern Rock bands. They have made excellent albums, such as Absolution and Black Holes and Revelations and have won my accolades for their amazing live concerts.

well... just look at my name! lol

Also throw in The Hives, Dropkick Murphys plus The Butterfly Effect

Without any doubt Muse are the best modern rock band of the 21st century. Matthew Bellamy is one of the few musicians around today who is actually innovative. He is the Hendrix or Van Halen of this generation.

It's got to be Sterophonics for me every time, although I've not managed to see them live for a couple of years now.

Well, for me it would be Sum 41.

Form an orderly que to have a go at me.

The rason being that the play different types of music about different things. I have not heard muc muse stuff, but I would also list Oasis for what they have achieved in their time, and all that they are known for.

NO no dont... cause soon they will be overplayed in your country too and you will be sick of them as well, just like most other Australians are with this australian band. :p :

Muse have never beaten their first album in terms of greatness but I still respect that they're trying to do something completely unique and different.

System of A Down or NIN for me. Tool are utterly incredible live... and they have this amazing capacity to just churn out awesome songs time after time. A Perfect Circle too just blow me away... as do Boy Hits Car who sadly split a few years ago... I better stop there because I'll just wind up giving a list of my CD collection... :D

System of a down are very good! "Question" is one of my fav tunes with them
saw that Robinho mentioned "Rise against".
Made me nostalgic abt the nice old "Rage against the machine"-tunes...

I guess the best way to describe them is that they are all progressive rock/metal bands. So long complex songs and are all either fairly unique or have people copying them.

Slinkster, good call on Tool, I'd forgotten about them.

I like DT and Opeth from your list Sleeper ..and also Tool to an extent but all these are 90s bands....as for 2000s I hardly listen (or have listened) to any newer bands.

Dream Theater and NIN formed in the 1980's and Tool formed in the early 1990's and where popular before 2000. So they aren't really modern enough despite selling well in the 21st century.

I can't believe nobody said The Darkness! :D

they were and still are one of my favorites though :-(

Who, The Darkness? It's a pity. I got tired of them a bit, though. They sound too much like a mix of AC/DC, Sweet and Queen.

I'd vote The Datsuns. Audioslave isn't bad either.

Unfortunatly there are no bands, besides Kayo Dot who formed in 2003, that I have either a lot of their output or have consistently impressed me. Besides, modern for me is 90's or later.

For those of you out there who like Muse..
Try an Aussie band called Silverchair, new album called "young modern"
It's not as heavy, but certainly as diverse and vocally interesting..
I think you'll get into Daniel Johns bizarre head...

^ Having checked out a number of their videos on youtube I dont see much of a Muse influence, though what they've got is very nice.

Im not sure if Silverchair are influenced by Muse..
I just thought that if you liked Muse, you would probably like Silverchair

yeah, big fan of Silverchair, but they don't get any coverage over here, i've got 3 of their albums up to Neon Ballroom, more of a grunge influence - i'd say if you like them you'd be in the Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Black Alps kind of area

Silverchair WERE great... now i think theyve gone soft! Frogstomp was a brilliant album, now its all this slow moaning music. Silverchair have changed,i think, for the worse. Alienated their original fan base to become more 'popular'

But hey thats my opinion

Brown, Jon Brow

An new band that I like is an American act called Mute Math. They are a bit like Radiohead, very experimental.

Which one existed first? In case they have similar color I think Muse are influenced by Silverchair.
