Sources close to Richard Childress confirmed to Captain Thunder that Tony Stewart has indeed had conversations with Richard Childress about joining the RCR stables and good buddy Kevin Harvick as soon as 2008. Stewart has driven Busch Series cars for Harvick and Harvick’s wife DeLana, and the three have been very close for many years.


Why would Stewart leave Gibbs and can he? The two-time Nextel Cup champion has been rumored to be very disappointed with the switch at Joe Gibbs Racing from Chevrolet to Toyota beginning with the 2008 season, and sources say he has had serious conversations with Richard Childress about voiding his contract at seasons end.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Tony signs with RCR. That would give RCR 3 strong drivers,......Tony, Jeff, and Clint. :)

It it would more likely be the #33. I doubt it will happen though not next season anyway. RCR can't find a sponsor for a 4th team and besides who would replace Tony at Gibbs. ;)

He has had a great career with the Coach. I don't think it would be a smart move to bail on the Coach at this point.

Well right now, they want a sponsor for who? Scott Wimmer?Kerry Earnhardt? If Tony were coming, I don't think finding a sponsor would be hard to find.

Home Depot would go with Tony. If not, I am sure there would be many sponsors wuilling to sponsor a team with him driving.

Makes sense. I'm the certainly no Stewart fan, but I can see Chevrolet pitching in some bucks to keep him in their circle.
