Seeing as there's a thread about what you drive now, lets see your old cars. I've seen this done on other forums before and some interesting machines have appeared. Or if you haven't got any photos, tell us about them. :)

Here's mine starting with car number one, a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 LS

http://images.fotopic.net/y7ybwg.jpg

Then there was the Renault Clio 1.4Si

http://images.fotopic.net/y7ybv5.jpg

And thirdly the SEAT Ibiza 2.0 Sport

Mine is so dull, I'm almost embarrassed. Here goes -

Ford Fiesta 1.1 ('87 D)
Ford Escort 1.3 ('93 L)
Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 ('01 Y)
Vauxhall Astra 1.8 ('00 X)

Found out earlier that I'll be driving an Alfa Romeo Brera soon (Yay!), but only for one week (Boo!).

My car life goes like this:

Learnt to drive in an XF Ford Falcon
Too poor at Uni to own a car, then once I finished uni:

1990 ST185 GT-Four (red)
1994 ST205 GT-Four (teal blue)

Moved to the States for work and ended up with a Ford Escape as a company vehichle

Now back in Perth and have an Evo IX, pictures of which appear in the new car thread.

So as you can see I've always liked rally based vehicles for cars I've bought myself and I can't see that changing. Oh except for the scooter that I'm about to buy to get to and from work with, so that I can save the Evo for trackdays etc. I can't wait to use it's full 4ps and 4Nm of powah!

I've got a similar rally car heritage as ST205GT4 but slightly less glamourous ;)

First car

1979 Fiat 131 Mirafiori 1.6 Automatic
http://members.iinet.net.au/~fenix1983/Files/Small131.jpg
131 Was a lovely car but sadly I had a little accident and we got rid of it. Handled really well on it's Bilstein shocks and it gave me my first sideways experience around a rather large roundabout near Malaga. ST205GT4 might know the one. Very reliable car until I rear ended a Rav4!

1977 Peugeot 504 GL Automatic (2L)

Yet another lovely car which was a joy to drive, gave me very few problems and was aweseome to drive on gravel with it's lovely soft suspension. Not much power (had a little more after it gained a weber carby) but it's done just under 100mph on gravel so I honestly couldn't ask for more :cheese: Was also the first car I've ever had a personalised plate on but possibly won't be the last. Everyone should drive one of these on gravel one day. It's got great traction and about an hour after this picture was taken it quite easily got out of this boggy field (it rained for most of the time I was there) while an AWD Subaru was busy spinning it's wheels and needed a push out. Had a hairy moment around a corner on gravel with a sticky throttle later that day but that was easily sorted. I was very very very sorry to say goodbye to it earlier this year when I moved to the UK :(

I've just been given an F reg Audi 80 to drive to and from work so I'll drive that for a few months and hopefully be able to afford a cheapish 306 Turbo Diesel and then maybe a 106 GTi/Rallye or a 306 XSi/GTi-6 or Rallye when money isn't so tight. I don't think I could ever while of sound mind buy a car that isn't French or Italian. It just doesn't make sense to me to own anything else.

Naughty boy ;) These days you'd get your car impounded for "braking traction" by the boys in blue.

Heresy! What about japanese techno-wizardry? Although now I have a hankering for an escort. This one here would be lovely.

The police would have to catch me first!!!!! Which would be quite easy considering my cars both had about 80bhp :uhoh:

Japanese cars are ok I guess. My girlfriends Legacy Turbo (Same as the Liberty RS) is nice I have to admit but the interior is cheap just like all Japanese cars :(

Geez that's an impressive car history!!!

I probably have the dullest car history in the world.

Learned to drive in an old Renault Clio 1.9 D

First car I owned was a third hand Renault 14, whose main feature apart from the total lack of front grip was a hole in the back of the car Flinstone-style.

Sadly I spent many years without a vehicle so I drove my mother's VW Passat Estate (1987) 1.4 D which delivered some astonishing 60hp.
Then it was a Renault Twingo, a car I still love for its looks and because it drove so well.

And in 2001 I bought my first car, which is in the hands of my brother now, a Ford Focus 1.9 TD Estate.

My first set of wheels was the 1989 Little Tikes Cozy Coupe, cherry red with the yellow hardtop. It ran off all the power I could muster from my two wee legs. I was the king of the cul-de-sac until my neighbor received a Powerwheels Jeep.

The first powered car I learned to drive was a 1993 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition, forest green, V6, optional 4WD. It was a hand-me-down car that was first my father's, then my brother's, then mine. So it had a long life before I got to it. It's death came about as I chased a friend in his Porsche 914 in the rain (bad idea), experienced my first case of over steer, and was plowed into from behind by another Ford (two Fords with one stone, I'm somewhat proud of that achievement).

Next came my second most favorite car ever owned (the first being my dormant Z), a metallic black 2001 Mazda Protege ES. Black, five speed (and front-wheel drive so as to minimize the over steer issue I'd experienced previously), inline-four cylinder. I'd hoped for the turbocharged Mazdaspeed Protege, but insurance, a budget, and a wise father decided that was not to be. Nonetheless, it was a quick little car (for me at least) and I enjoyed it thoroughly, learning better car control and how to drive a stick shift in it.

My next car was the 1973 240Z that I purchased myself after working two summers (I still own it, it's just a basket case and a bit under the weather at the moment :s panner :) . Inline six, five speed manual, rear-wheel drive. It is the original blue, with some rust added in for good measure. This is by far my favorite car I've ever owned and it is my baby. What's not to love about it (Aside from the rust and electrical gremlins)?

However, once the Z started to die, I needed reliable transportation while I could repair the Z and such. Enter my black, 1993 Volvo 960. This actually was a decent car to drive. The inline-six provided plenty of grunt for nearly running over the campus cop at my high school (another bad idea, it's a long story). Also, I must say that contrary to popular belief, Volvos are not indestructible. They are merely very cushioned when impacted from behind by a woman in a Lexus SUV who is yapping away on her cell phone.

And no, I don't want to talk about my insurance. :dozey:

1977 Peugeot 504 GL ..... gave me very few problems ......

One of those things gave me a few problems too :( Face full of scars, eye full of glass and lungs that don't work so well any more :s I was the passenger in one that hit something when I was 13.

My previous cars are a Nissan Sunny 16v (written off by an old bloke in a Volvo doing a U turn right in my path)

Suzuki Vitara 1.6 petrol (shockingly good off road considering it's only a Tonka toy, until I knocked the floor clean out of it :p : )

Assorted cars via auctions that have been passed on pretty fast.

Land Rover 90 Ute 2.5 petrol 1988 (still have it, though not in use)

First car I co-owned with my mom (hard times for each of us): a 1984 Chevy S-10 Blazer. Cool ride for High School.

Totaled the S-10 when I feel asleep at the wheel, and was given a 1985 Chevrolet Camaro (V-6). Underpowered and heavy, but did a good job of commuting to college..

First car I purchased with my own money was a 1975 BMW 3.0 Si (the 4 door, not the coupe). Absolute piece of crap, but I was too dumb to know it at the time. Nothing quite like the sound of the BMW straight 6 at full wail. Constant overheating problems resulted in a blown head gasket less than 10 onths after purchase, but I gave only $1300 for it :)

Next was a Euro model 1979 BMW 635 CSi. No federalization work other than bars installed in the doors. Went like a scalded cat, and had some fun at a few tracks with it as well (Road Atlanta, Atlanta Motor Speedway Road Course, Roebling Road, and Talladega Grand Prix). My first experience with a REAL car. Sadly, it wasn't a great example, and rust, bearing knock, and leaky calipers made it give way to a trade to a friend for a ...

1983 E21 320i (318i in Europe). This car now sits in the garage awaiting $ and time as it is my racer project. Low on power, but it handles like a dream, and I relish the manual steering each time I'm behind the wheel! LOVE THIS CAR!!!! Took it to Road Atlanta, Hallett Motorsports Park in Oklahoma, and the local track (Memphis Motorsports Park).

Took advantaged of a mispriced Euro 1986 BMW 745i (the turbo) and picked it up for a pittance. A dog a low revs, but went like a fiend when the boost was up  Incredibly luxurious with nice leather, power everything (the rear seat radio controls were cool), but I was scared to death of something breaking ($$$). Sold it at nearly $3000 profit!!

Since then have had a 1987 BMW 528e (fun to drive, and roomy) and am currently driving a 325e (fun to drive, less roomy).
Each of them does a fair job at the track, but are underpowered. You just have to work a bit harder to go fast :D

my car history is mega boring

1989 Proton 1.3 aeroback , purchased new by mum I got i in 1996 great car very reliable but after 11 years and 107k it had to go (was still on original clutch, shockers and wheel bearings)

1997 Proton Persona 1.5gls, purchased used in 2000, not very reliable, 2 radiators, head gasket plus numerous central locking failures in 5 and a half years plus usual repairs. some cars have personality that one didnt

finally 2005 Nissan Almera 1.5s, purchased on 21st jan 2006 at 9 montsh old and 9k, my baby I love her, no probs reliability wise, good workhorse. bargain as well, cost new 11k I paid 6.5k for her and she is great. was actually my 31st birthday pressie from me to me LOL

Well, only being 17 and 4 months i don't have much of a car history yet... (luckily....as in i haven't written anything off..) But i learnt in a 2005 Toyota Corolla 1.4 Diesel, great car to drive but dangerously underpowered (hense it belonged to a driving school!) other than the lack of right foot response, it was really nice :) . Have also driven my mum's 2004 1.5 Diesel Renault Clio, that in comparison to the Toyota is much more powerful and actually very nippy and fast for a 1.5 diesel.

I now own and drive a 1.9 D Turbo Peugeot 306 which has shocking first gear but great response once the Turbo kicks in and tonnes of torque! Most i could get really at my age without having hefty insurance :s

My first car was a 1.6L 1985 Mk II Vauxhall Cavalier, 4 door saloon in midnight blue. I paid £1200 for it, ran it for three years, replaced the water pump, clutch, front wheel bearings and had two recon engines in it before it went to the big scrapheap in the sky. I loved the car and thought it was the business.

Shortly after saying goodbye to my Cavalier I had one of my dad's aunts leave me a bit of cash so I blew the lot on a two year old Alfa 155 2.0 Twin Spark. It was blisteringly quick, handled better than any car I had driven and spent more time in the garage being repaired than I spent actually driving it. It got to the stage where friends of mine thought I'd traded it in for a Fiesta because I spent more time driving a courtesy car than my Alfa. I kept it for 18 months and after it's second gearbox decided to trade it in for...........

1994 Mk III VW Golf 2.0 16v Gti. It was the one car I wish I still had. It was fun, fast and reliable. It had a decent stereo with JBL speakers and it had a a 16ton lorry take it 50m down the road when parked outside a newsagents early one morning. I had it for two and a half years and cried when I saw the damage done by the lorry.

I had always had bikes as well as cars so used my bike as my main for of transport until I got my first job with a company car. I was a 2 year old Peugeot 405 diesel which was replaced by a 406 diesel, then a Toyota Avensis, then another 406 but a 3.0 V6 which then changed into a Renault Laguna, followed by my current drive which is a new diesel VW Passat estate.

My history.

1st up, a 1986 (C Reg) Austin Maestro 1.3, owned this for about 4 months, untill i realised i must have been mad. It was a bag of nails, and failed an MOT.
http://www.bltin.com/pix/austin_maestro_01.jpg

I then spent 800 quid on a 1989 (F) Renault 19, 1.4 tr. Kind of rushed into buying this one, the Maestro had failed an MOT and i needed a car, needed something cheap and cheap to insure, went for this 19, kept it for about 8 months and got bored with it, so i traded it in.
http://www.yauto.cz/includes/img/inzerce/big_46903345.jpg

I traded the Renault in for a 1989 (F) Ford Sierra 1.6 L estate. And i may sound daft and a bit sad, but this has been my most favourite car yet, to this day even, it never once let me down and i used it as a workhorse too, i think the only thing that ever went wrong with it was the clutch cable going the day before i traded it in. I kept the Sierra for 3 and a half years.
http://www.crustworld.co.uk/sierra/techspec/images/92/estext1.jpg

Sierra was traded in against a 1993 (L) Ford Mondeo, 1.8 GLX. The first car i had owned with such mod cons as power steering, elecric windows and mirrors, and electric drivers seat. Not a bad car at all, fun to drive depite its size and lacklustre image, couple of problems with this one though unlike the Sierra, the air bag packed up, it would have cost £580 to replace the airbag, i took the cheap option and took the bulb out the dash myself. The speedo cable snapped, and Ford in Grantham charged an arm and a leg to fix it, while mucking it up three times, and me having to take it back. Despite that it was a good car, i had that for four years, the longest i have ever owned a car to date.
http://eur.news1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/xp/carndriv/20051115/12/2427732867.jpg

Next up was a 1999 (T) Vauxhall Astra, 1.6 8v LX.
I was determined to buy an Astra, and had made my mind up that was the car i was going to buy, but with the one i did buy i made a mistake, buying the wrong one really, totall lack of power and the spec on the LX was worse than my previous Mondeo, however it was cheap to run, very cheap. Nothing ever really went wrong with it either, but i was never happy with the lack of performance, after two years i traded it in (last October) for my current car.
http://www.carsurvey.org/images/vauxhall_astra_3.jpg

A 2002 (02) Renault Laguna, 1.9 DCI Dynamiqiue.
So far so good, my first diesel car, although i must admit its no better on fuel (around town) than my old Astra, it is a far better car. No complaints yet (touch wood, their wont be either).
Picture of my actual car, in the 'what do you drive thread', besides we are limited to five per post.

All of the pictures are not my exact cars, not something i have ever kept to be honest. But all are as near as. All mundane, and not exactly exotic either, but there you ago, who knows what the future holds.

I too have a somewhat dull auto-ownership history :mark: :

I acquired my first true vehicle from my sister who tired of her 1982 Pontiac 6000 LE (2.8l V-6 auto) and sold it to me for $500.00. 'Twas a true POS. After a couple of years of constant brake repairs, a dodgy radiator and a host of other minor-ish problems I got rid of it and purchased...

A 1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ (4.2l carburated in-line 6, 5 spd). Great 4x4 vehicle and came in real handy both during the Montreal winters and camping trips during the summer. It made for an awful highway car though :s and my wallet really took a hit at the pumps, so I sold it and purchased my first ever brand new car...

A 1992 Acura (Honda) Integra (1.8l V-4, 5 spd). Best car I've ever owned  . Lightweight, handled great, fun to drive, and extremely reliable. Owned it for 7 years before tiring of the poor winter-performance (despite front-wheel drive, the car was too light-weight to get any decent traction on snow/icey roads :s ), so I traded it in for, yep, another Jeep...

1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport (4.0l in-line 6, 5 spd). Another great 4x4 (essentially the same drivetrain as the Wrangler) and a very versatile car. Was moving overseas so I sold it. Upon returning to Canada I purchased our current vehicle...

A 2004 Mazda Tribute (3.0l v-6, auto). Another good versatile vehicle, although sadly not available in a 5 spd.

Sill looking for that Hillman though ;)

Do the Aussie car companys, such as Holden and the Aussie branch of Ford make anything that is not rebranded?

Apart from the obvious like the Ford Falcon and Holden Monaro, Maybe the current Commodore too. The previous shape Commodore was a rebranded Vauxhall/Opel Omega.

Bit off topic, but for me atleast interesting.

my first car was an 1968 (i think) Hillman Imp in Hawaiian blue (turquoise), with some minilite alloys which finished it perfectly, at the time it was just 25 yrs old, so needed no tax, was incredibly cheap to run and the coolest thing in my 6th form car park until someone i knew restored a MG Midget.

it may have only been an 875cc but it went pretty well , handled brilliantly and was great fun, was very sad to see it go but after a few years i needed something a little more reliable and practical.

then i had an 'H' ('92) reg Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6l, white, bog standard, but it had a sunroof and a stereo, went everywhere i needed and never broke down, and cost me nothing, like the Imp (my dad is a mechanic so normally has a fleet of old rubbish that he has lying about at the garage!)

i then invested a heady £900 in a J reg ('92) Vauxhall Astra 2.0l SRi which was one of my dads customers old cars, went well compared to the Cavalier, had electric bits and bobs and again never broke down and lasted a few years.

then about 3-4 yrs ago i bought an N ('96) VW Corrado VR6 in Black, i'd wanted one since i saw one new on my paper round yeras ago and finally could afford one, was a fantastic car, very quick and handled great considering the weight up front (2.9l V6), but unfortunatley once it had topped 100k miles it was starting to cost money to keep running so i sold to my brother in law as he does less miles than me.

now i own an '06 reg MG ZS 180 saloon in Black, i got a taste for a V6 after the Corrado so this keeps me satisfied, its a new car, still quick, plenty of gadgets and looks good too and was cheap due to being one of the cheap sell offs after Rover went under, and has plenty of space for the family.

My first car was actually a truck, a 1970 Chevrolet half-ton 5.7LV8 automatic(It used to be my grandfathers)
after that I had a 1989 Chevrolet Beretta 2.8L V-6 5-speed.
then my favorite a 1995 Mazda MX-6 2.5L V-6 5-speed
But we sold it for the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country mini-van, bacause that's what marriage and two kids will do for you. :D

My motorcycle history is as follows:
Yamaha 80 don't remember the year
1981 Honda twinstar 200
1978 Kawasaki KZ400
1985? Honda Interceptor 500
1988 Honda CBR600F Hurricane

1st car was a 1983 Ford Escort 1.3 base model in coral beige.
That was replaced by a 1986 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 DL in red. Good for 50mpg but that was about it.
Back to a petrol car which was a 1990 Ford Escort Eclipse in Bahama blue, smart looking car with a lot of the XR3i trim on it.
Then I got a 1994 Ford Escort 1.8 Ghia Si 16v, the newest car I'd ever owned as it was only 6 months old when I got it and had 6000 miles on it.
Next was I bought an older car an Audi 80 coupe quattro 2.3 20v which was amazing and sounded so different.
After this got a car some of you may have seen me with before, a 1998 Honda Civic 1.8 VTi-S in pirates black. Best handling fwd car I've ever owned and quickish with it too.
Then sticking with Japanese cars now have a 2000 Subaru Impreza turbo2000 in dark metallic blue. A seriously quick car that handles like nothing I've ever experienced.

Well, my first car was a MK3 Ford Escort in cream with a brown interior, dont have any pictures to hand but I hope I have some in a photo album somewhere as its my first car and I have fond memories of it. It ran well until the gearbox blew.

My second car was a Peugeot 309 GTI, which was a dream. http://www.voiture-de-reve.com/pic-voiture/16-99-GTI16-peugeot_309_gti16.jpg thats not my actual car as I cant find any pictures of that one either right now. But it was another really light and nimble front wheel drive, this one was white with a decent set of alloys, leather trim seats and all the rest. Quality car.

My third car was the one that is attached below, a Vauxhall Corsa model B in the shape it was when I got it. Ended up modding it a bit, lowering springs, alloy wheels, sub amp n CD player. Few other bits and bobs and lasted well. In the end though the engine packed up. I then moved onto my current car a Mondeo.

Lets see if I can keep my rather boring list straight.

I started driving in 1986, and my first vehicle (shared with my mom, of course)
was a 1974 VW Micro bus painted blue with white trim (and a red/white/blue stripe). It looked like a mail truck!

Since then I have had:

(While still living in Illinois with my parents)
1978 Ford Granada (4.1L I-6 engine...no horsepower but a ton of torque)
1980 (?) Plymouth Sapparo (had three days, girlfriend totaled it)
1982 Dodge Omni O24 (slow as molasses in January, but it did have a sunroof)
1987 Dodge Shadow (really was my mom's I used it between cars)
1980 Toyota Corolla SR-5 (a POS car, killer Kenwood Stereo System)

Then I moved to North Carolina on Jan 2, 1991:
1980 Chevy Chevette (best $100.00 I ever spent,tried to kill it, I couldn't)
1982 Pontiac Phoenix (another POS, but that early 2.8L V-6 would fly)
1990 Ford Tempo (typical Ford FWD car. Delivered many pizza's in it)
1983 Nissan Pick Up (Long bed..absolutely no options, Hurricane Floyd killed it)
1994 Chevy S-10 (bought new by DAMG75, stayed in family until Sept 2006)
1993 Ford Mustang LX (2.3L I-4, 1st car my wife and I bought together)
1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE (3.4L V-6, bought almost new in 1999, for her)
1997 Ford F-150 XLT (bought from my dad, My first full size p/u)

Then my current vehicles (already listed in another thread)
2004 Ford F-150 Lariat (bought new in February 2004)
2001 Mercury Grand Marquis GS (bought from my parents in October 2005)

Most of the cars on that list were true POS's, thats why there is so many of them in 20 years. Yet I still have a soft spot for every one, as something important (or at least something I "percieved" important happened in every one of those vehicles.

My favorite will always be that 94 Chevy S-10. I was a volunteer Firefighter/EMT, and I put thousands of miles on that truck responding to emergency calls in that truck, went on my date with my wife in that truck, not to mention my first road trip with her (etc). It changed hands between my little brother, my dad, and myself several times. My dad bought it back from me in October 2005 when I bought his Grand Marquis, and he just traded it in when he bought his Toyota Tacoma in Sept 2006....I miss that S10....

Hello Daz90, the early Holden Commodore was based visually on an Opel, but ran different running gear and engine. Both Ford and Holden take some of their design cues from head office but normally have locally developed engines and running gear.
Holden export some 30,000 cars to the Middle East badged as Chevies.
Ford now has a locally developed, designed and built 'soft roader' called the Territory. Holden's equivelent is a rebadged Korean car, can't remember if it a Daewoo, or Kia or whatever.
Ford shared a lot of floorpans with Mazda for the small cars called Lasers. Now they just import the Focus and Fiesta.
Mitsubishi still makes car in Australia however I can't tell you much about how similar they are to overseas models.

Hey Cossie, whatever happened to the new GTO that was supposed to be manufactured by Holden and exported to the U.S. As I understand GM cancelled the project as they figured that U.S. buyers wouldn't accept an American "muscle car" manufactured outside of the U.S :mark: . Are they still manufactured by Holden but not exported?

Holden export cars to China as Buicks as well don't they? I remember the HSVDT cars were rebadged as Buicks when the V8s went to China in 2005.

The Captiva is made by Chevrolet Europe (GM-Daewoo) and will be sold in the UK, along with the Vauxhall version which will be called the Antara.

I believe that the Monaro/GTO is still being made here, but don't quote me on it! here is a good article in The Sydney Morning Herald.
http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=22690&vf=7

It talks about the new Commodore being exported to the US as a Pontiac. It also says that Toyota Australia will export about 92,000 cars this year.

Cheers,

Mark.

The Monaro/GTO finished production last year at the same time they finished making the VZ Commodore. They were both made on the same production line and shared many components.

The new VE Commodore is a totally new platform, in which a coupe version has not yet been designed.

Any coupe version would most likely come off the Zeta platform.

Another Capri man. Id mark 2 and mark 3s in 1600, 2 litre , 2.8i 4 speed and 3 litre. My 28i was an original two tone with pepperpot wheels. My 3 litre was bough from some south London yob and driven back to Belfast via Southampton and Liverpool but I didnt keep it for long. Never seemed to pull like a 3 litre V6 shoulda'.
