You have complete list from the olds to today's band. :)

Talking about guitar riffs, I think Slash GNR has the most sophisticated riffs. Sweet child o' mine deserves the pick from all their songs.

Van Halen deserves a mention too, especially with their characteristic vocal of Sammy Saggar.

I think Mods will merge this thread, talk of mods I don't see pino lately, is he in holiday?

Motorbreath by Metallica is a great riff. Very catchy.

Also Deep Purple are a fantastic band with great songs...but I just can't listen to Smoke on the Water.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned "You Really Got Me" by the Kinks and "Satisfaction" by the Stones, which are the first true rock riffs.

Also, it might not be chart music but The Moor by Opeth just has utterly brilliant guitar riffs that all just flow into each other so fluidly.

And Black Sabbath riffs! Iron Man, Into The Void, Electric Funeral, Black Sabbath all have fantastic riffs. Tony Iommi is a genius.

I'm surprised to see a Gn'R song top that list. a lot of people today say that Gn'R was an average band that got famous only because Mtv played their songs all the time.

They still are one of my all time favorites though.

It's just like saying that today's bands are average.

Lulu's seering guitar lick on Boom Bang A Bang accompanied by the tribal throb of Lonnie Donegan on the spoons takes a bit of beating in my book.

A poor second comes King Crimson with the mighty "21st Century Shizoid Man"

LET'S ROCK!

House of the Rising Sun, not a riff per se, but a great tune.-Animals
Ohio-Neil Young
You're Gonna Miss Me-13th Floor Elevators and Dell commercial check it out on youtube in grainy black and white. Note the guy playing the jug. Yup, jug.
Fiero's first rock tune and stepping stone to garage stardom.
Funk 49-James Gang
Purple Haze-No name necessary
Brown Sugar-Rolling Stones
Start me up-Rolling Stones
Iron Man-lol, I've forgotten, was that Sabbath? (time to go back to the home)
Cinnamon Girl-Neil Young, requires different string tuning.

I thought you were a Maiden fan.....:O

and hell no...its not repetitive or boring in any sense....there are plenty of other (black/death metal) bands that can fit your criteria though.

I would have said so about Maiden, they and Megadeth's were similar, slightly repetitive and can't find any bold character vocal of black metal there.

However band that is likely acceptable for this forum choir is Metallica, because mostly member are familiar with their song entitled "sad but true"

Alonso's chance on this year title was deteriorated from his DNF at Fuji, "sad but true" :( :p :

OOh,that is a good one!You can practicaly smell Eddie's fingers smoke on that trac! But,try this one:Planet Caravan by Pantera.Killer guitar riff at the end of that song.

Storm

you mean Planet Caravan by Sabbath, covered by Pantera ;) (or if they changed it a lot , my mistake!)

Yes,that is correct.I have not actually listened to the original by Sabbath,so I could not say.But I do love Pantera's version and the killer vid on it as well.

Also to note I love TOOL,but I personally think the drummer is more of a remarkable notice on most tracs than for their guitar riffs albeit GREAT band all together along with Maynard's other band,A Perfect Circle.

As Marvel comics use to say it-'nuf said.

I see nobody talk about Swedish band, there were many but the most recognized one and get familiar with their song is Hammerfall.

There were also ABBA and millencolin :)
