Hi,
In two weeks is the new ERC round in Greece, the Elpa Rally...
http://www.elparally.gr/2007/en/index.php
What I'd like to know is if there will be one(or several)greek driver in an S2000 car on this event
I remember having read from our greek friends in another thread(that I can't find) Peugeot-Sport Greece, which employing driver Konstantin Paradissis with a 206 S1600, in the year on the greek championship this driver would use a 207 S2000 on one(or several)rally of the championship...

Nothing confirmed yet.....best case senario talks about 2 paugeot s2000 (Paradisis and Tsolakidis) worst case senario...none.

I think it's going to be an interesting event. First rally in many many years that will be held on a mixed surface. No single-surface specialists, the best driver wins!
But of course, everything depends on the entry list. Anybody knows when it will be published?

Most likely there will not run Greek S2000 cars.
Travaglia will come to Halkidiki with Lancer, maybe Solowow the same, so we will have not many S2000 cars (Czopik, Isik for sure).
There are about 80 competitors in entrylist (some of them will run only the tarmac day, some of them only the gravel day) and the foreigners crews are about 10.

OK that doesn't look good in term of S2000 entry then :(

The entries closed last Wednesday, except from the crews that took part in DETH rally this weekend that had an extension until yesterday!
About Greek crew with S2000 in Elpa Rally, I would not count on it!
If Paradissis would drive a 207 S2000 in Elpa Rally, he would have driven it also in DETH Rally which has the same special stages with the tarmac day of Elpa Rally!!!

Juraj Šebalj will come to Elpa with Lancer, but we can't expect much from him, as he has minimal experience on gravel.

I think, that mixed surface is the main problem of this event, why so many foreign crews rather miss the event (for example Tlustak :) )

And what about Aris Vovos ?? Shouldn't he drive a Grande Punto S2000 on few greek championship rounds ??
atsiotras79
26th September 2007, 10:09
Vovos drove all Greek Championship rounds with Evo9 from Ralliart Italy, as he will in Elpa Rally.
His co-driver told me that they had some thoughts to use an S2000 in DETH Rally in order to see how it is and maybe use it in Elpa Rally, but that did not happen!
In DETH Rally last weekend, Vovos had problem with the differential of the Evo and stopped on the first morning stage, after he went flat out in the night stages and had a 10 sec. lead.

What a pity there's no Ojeda. After Barum Rally he said, that if the team has enough money he wants to win two titles - IRC and ERC. But I see it won't happen...

He told that there is a chance they can think about ERC...

Does anybody know which Lancer will Travaglia drive? I hope not from Top run racing.
Altough chances are small, Ojeda might win ERC without coming to last two rounds. :)

Renato's Evo will be from Nocentini
Ojeda cannot win the ERC anymore because he must have 6 starts in ERC, and he only has 4 and there are 2 rallyes remaining Elpa and Antibes. So since he does not start Elpa, bye bye ERC championship!

Oh, I forgot that. So it's between Travaglia and Iliev, perhaps Nocentinni will decide the winner! :D

Tomasz Czopik will not participate in Elpa Rally and the reason is at least strange. He paid MRT for the car and after the recce he was actually waiting on the test stage for the car, when he got the information that the MRT team (responsible for Czopik's Punto S2000) didn't even make a move from the team headquarters in Italy!!! They didn't even book a hotel!!!
It's even more strange because Travaglia and Iliev are running cars from the same team! I don't know if I should belive in this...

I don't think that Iliev is dependent on MRT team. I mean he has bougnt his car from him and his own team service the car, so he has nothing to do with MRT in terms on supporting the team in any particular rally. But, MRT is helping Iliev's team in some way for sure. So in my openion, if MRT is not there it doesn't mean that Iliev will have any problems to participate in this event. I don't know about Travaglia. But after all, I can't tell for sure, I mean, this is my own view.

Simon still on the lead... but with a small gap :)

The last stage today will decide who will get 3 ERC points for winning first leg. At the moment 0.4s separate Isik and Jean-Joseph.
And tomorrow... the famous Halkidiki gravel! If you want to see what it looks like take a look at the classic photos from 1997:

That is what has happened according to a Bulgarian web site (http://www.bgnrc.info). In the refueling area, while refueling they spilled some fuel in the car. Then they left the refueling area and the co-driver took a bottle from the car and went for some water to a gas station, which was next to the refueling area. Someone from Citroen saw that thing and started calling some people and made a scene out of it or something like that. The crew said that they just wanted to clean the fuel in the car for safety reasons. According to the team they will continue tomorrow besides that, because they don’t agree with this decision and made an appeal, so now the FIA has to decide, which will probably take a lot of time (not really sure why fia, but that’s what I have read). Anyway, it is not really clear right now if Iliev will drive tomorrow, but in the service they prepared the car for the gravel stages tomorrow. I will keep you informed, if there is new information about that unpleasant story.

Here is the flash news:
http://www.elparally.gr/2007/en/newsdetails.php?page_id=90
Stewards decision for the entrant:
No 1 Dimitar ILIEV - Yanaki YANAKIEV (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX)
After receiving a report of the scrutineers, the Stewards summoned crew No1 for breaching Art 12.6.3 of the FIA General Prescriptions.
Art 12.6.3 of the FIA General Prescriptions states that “Any action inside a refueling zone not directly involved in the refueling of the competing vehicle is prohibited”.
After hearing the team and due deliberation, the Stewards decide to exclude car No 1 from the event.
Eventually the team has appealed the decision. After that No 1 car will continuing on the 2nd Leg of the ELPA Rally because the FIA’s Court of Appeals will try the case after two weeks.

The rally is fantastic! Isik is very fast and spectacular and have the advantage to win the rally! I think that only Travaglia and Vovos (he is very fast on gravel) can take the will from Volkan, because the Turkish crew has to sweep the road.
Tomorrow are the great Sithonia gravel stages and I am waiting for them!

Petrol was spilled in the boot of Iliev’s Mitsubishi, while his mechanics refuel the car in the Refueling Zone. Then Dimitar leaves the Refueling Zone. His co-driver took a tube and run back to the petrol station to fill the tube with water and clean the spot from the spilled petrol, because of the safety reasons. At that time Citroen Sport manager kick up a row and the decision is made Iliev is excluded from the race. In spite of all, he will take part in the race tomorrow.
Unfortunately it is difficult for the big teams to allow a small team from East Europe to make something great. :(

Very bad situation for Iliev :(
Elpa is being an exciting rally.... and Isik is doing probably is best rally ever.
Yesterday he won the leg with 0.2 sec advantage over Simon,.. and note the first leg was in tarmac, Isik isn't a tarmac specialist... ok.. he have a better car than Simon, but we must look for this particular situation. Simon is a highly talented driver and Isik is "only" a gentleman driver.
Today he lost the lead in the first stage.. but in the second stage he improved the pace, won the stage and took the lead again... now he have 24.6 sec advantage over Travaglia!
Really great for Isik.

http://www.elparally.gr/2007/common/images/holder.gif Stewards decision for the entrant:
2 Renato TRAVAGLIA – Daniele VERNUCCIO / Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX
After receiving a report of the scrutineers, which is attached and self explanatory, the Stewards summoned crew No2 for breaching Art 254.4 of Appendix J (inconformity mount of the rear differential).
The driver informed the Stewards that he had to get his competition car in a very short notice and his intention was to get a 100% legal car.
After hearing all statements by the crew and car owner and after due deliberation, the Stewards decide to exclude car No 1 from the event.
Driver has appealed the decision. The case will be tried by the FIA’s Court of Appeals in the near future.

I don't think it is fair to exclude Dimitar Iliev immediatelly from the rally for such an insignificant mistake. I am not sure that if the same was done by SJJ would lead to exclusion for him. Maybe it is true that the big money are "working" against Iliev and his team. Probably BAMS is the smallest team in ERC history fighting for European chamionship ever!

Well, I do not know what exactly happened but we have only heard the Iliev's team point of view.
I heard that in the refuelling zone, somebody from the Bulgarian crew indeed filled a 5lt bottle of water and when they got out of the zone, they filled a tank in the area of the engine, maybe the water spraying of the intercooler (which is a known problem in Evos, very small tank). The guy from the organisation who was there, saw them and said it to the organising commitee, because near the refuelling zone, only fuel is allowed to put in the car, nothing else.
I am not supporting that point of view, I just say what I heard!
And everybody is happy, including me, that such a small team like Iliev's, is capable of fighting for the championship!!! I wish he wins it!

Yes, I must say the same! I always support teams from Eastern part of Europe in their fight against more experienced and richer drivers.
Unfortunately today, there are maybe 3 drivers from Eastern Europe, that can successfully fight against Western opposition :) Roman Kresta, Urmo Aava and Dimitar Iliev are the only names that come to my mind...
