Davies rules out MotoGP return for now

By Toby Moody Tuesday, September 18th 2007, 19:23 GMT

Chaz Davies has ruled himself out of the ride at Pramac D'Antin for this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix following complications with an arm injury.

The Briton had a bad reaction to a tetanus injection that he was given following an accident in testing at Mugello last week, and feels it would be better to spend more time recovering.

Davies was testing for the Italian team as part of a serious evaluation of the 20-year-old following an impressive performance at the United States GP when he stood in for the injured Alex Hofmann.

He admitted to feeling 'off’ at Laguna Seca last weekend, where he was competing in the AMA Superbike series finale.

Having spent six hours in hospital on his arrival because of the tetanus reaction, matters were not helped by two further crashes over the weekend. The worst was when he was involved in a six-bike pile-up at the Corkscrew, caused by oil on the track during first practice.

As autosport.com revealed earlier this week, Davies was approached by Pramac D'Antin to race at Motegi as a replacement for Hofmann, who has been dropped by the team.

But despite talks, he has now decided not to pursue a race deal for this weekend. Instead, he plans to return to Britain now rather than fly direct to Japan from America.

Although deciding not to race this weekend, Davies is still interested in competing in any of the remaining three MotoGP events after Motegi and was delighted to have been seriously considered for this weekend’s event.

Yep, Itoh's riding it. See the autosport link.

That makes the combined age of the D'Antin riders 76!

76, and that's just Barros. You forgot to add Itoh's age! :)

Sensational! Hope he can make the most of it. Perhaps Casey will give him a few pointers?

Hes alot like Westy in that he struggled as a 250 privateer for many years ( not quite as successfully mind you :D ) but Im sure he'll suit the big bikes well, also similarly to Ant..

Oh and Ninja, Casey is rumoured to be the main influence in Chaz getting another ride aboard the Ducati in the first place at his recent Mugello test, where by all accounts he was extremely impressive.. (lapping only a second and a bit over the lap record set in the race and giving useful technical feedback) ..

Casey himself was at the test giving Chaz help, i dont think he'll want to help him to much though, Chaz might start challenging for podiums straight off the bat :P

Good luck to the lad..
