An audacious plot to break into a cash machine was foiled after workmen found a 12m (40ft) tunnel heading towards it.
"It is not known how long the gang had been digging - or what they have done with all the soil."

I suppose because they didn't have a JCB they had to use shovels to retrieve the cash machine...

I heard this on the radio whilst driving and not paying attention too much to the radio. I thought they said 12 miles :eek:

There are some really interesting spoil heaps in Nuneaton. They look like pyramids.

That's a lot of work! For the amount of money you might get from the machine, between all the people involved, wouldn't it be easier to just go and get a job?

In Kent, on average a cash machine gets nicked once a month. Even my local shopping centre has been hit several times in the last year. Police suspect it's the same gang, using 4x4s or JCBs, and they've never been caught. :s

Surely it would be easy to put impact sensor alarms on the machines. Or GPS, I mean they're not really supposed to move at all.
