I think it's some masculine thing, you know - "golf has always been a man's pasttime, women can't participate, it would take something special away..." or some such silliness...

Personally, I always preferred playing chess against women - it gave me a chance to compare and contrast the natural styles of men and women, and there were noticeable differences.

And, I maintain that cat gut is cattle. If it's wrong, blame Colin Quilter.
