That is if the 8 does not go to him, since he won the pole at Pocono this past weekend, what well he drive next year?

I think the rule is if a qualified pole winner goes to a different team the driver is in with the new car. (He'll have a sponsor and car number long before then.)

who ever drives the 8 car is eligible as well

So far the 2008 Shootout field will be at least 18 drivers
The 2008 Shootout field (so far) is :
2007 Pole Winners :
1) #38-David Gilliland
2) #24-Jeff Gordon (also is a previous Shootout winner*)
3) #9-Kasey Kahne
4) #12-Ryan Newman (also is a previous Shootout winner*)
5) #11-Denny Hamlin (also is a previous Shootout winner*)
6) #07-Clint Bowyer
7) #18-J.J. Yeley
8) #26-Jamie McMurray
9) #22-Dave Blaney
10) #25-Casey Mears
11) #41-Reed Sorenson
12) #?-Dale Earnhardt Jr (also is a previous Shootout winner*)

Past Shootout Winners* are also automatically eligible:
(even if they do not win a pole in 2007)
13) #20-Tony Stewart
14) #48-Jimmie Johnson
15) #44-Dale Jarrett
16) #01-Mark Martin
17) #?-Ken Schrader
18) #?-Bill Elliott

BTW : the DRIVER earns the entry into the Shootout NOT the team owner,
if a driver changes teams the driver keeps his entry but the previous team owner does NOT gain entry.

This is the same as how Mears got a guaranteed spot in the All-Star challenge. The 25 with brian Vickers won a race, so the 25 car + brian vickers got a spot in the all star race

Stan is correct in that whomever ends up in the #8 (if it's still with DEI) will not be in the Shootout unless they have won a pole this season or are a past winner of the race.
