Way to go Robby!!!

http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/7099392

"Robby Gordon will exact his revenge at Watkins Glen this weekend.

Not only will Gordon be racing the No. 7 Ford, the team owner will field a second car — the No. 77 — for Busch Series regular Marcos Ambrose, who he fiercely battled in the closing laps of the NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Saturday.
"Marcos did a helluva job," Gordon said. "He led a lot of laps on Saturday. It will be great to have him as my teammate."

Ambrose, who drives the No. 59 Kingsford Ford for Wood Brothers/JTG Racing, qualified fifth and led the most laps before Gordon spun him out with two laps remaining in the event. Ambrose finished seventh and is currently eighth in the Busch Series point standings.

If he qualifies for the race, Sunday will mark the Nextel Cup debut for the 30-year-old Launceston, Tasmania native who began his career in NASCAR with the Wood Brothers last season."

Well that sure is different. Marcos gets a trial cup ride by the guy who punted him the week before. I guess it's a good thing Marcos wasn't angry after the race, huh? ;)

Marcos couldn't get a ride for Infineon, and then they discover he has this road racing thing down and they cant get him in a car fast enough. Good lord, you only have to watch footage of the man in his racing from OZ to know he is one of the fastest guys in a stock car on a road course.

Of course, Robby being the pin head he is I don't think is racing now from what I read in the paper, but at least Robby had enough sense to give the guy a shot.

HI MARK ON AMBROSE SITE IT SAID HE WILL CONCENTRATE on his Busch ride there is nothing at all about this , but if it is true , robby knows a good race driver when he sees one, he was looking at his tail for awhile, good for you Robby, how good has the #77 been.

the article that this came from also says that robby will race too.

cup debut what a dream, i wonder if Ford Racing had something to do with this!

What I'm hearing is this teaming up has been confirmed by a representative of RGM. Robby will drive the #7 and Marcos will drive the #277. Details are supposedly still being worked out with NASCAR on the number for Marcos but Robby has the rights to #277. Should be a good show. :D

Probably the same thing. ;-) If it came down to the last lap with Ambrose leading and Robby second, Robby could well spin him out in the chicane. Now if the situation was reversed and MA bumps RG out for the win, it could go either way. Robby could either slug him or sign him to a full Cup deal for next year. That's Robby's personality.

Robbie figures it is the least he could do after Montreal perhaps? Maybe he just realized that Ambrose just might have a shot at winning it......

One thing is for sure, there will be no living with Tassiedevil if Ambrose does win an event....

I will be too. I'm thinking it could come down to a replay of last year's Busch race at the Glen. That was the best road course race I've ever watched. That was real racing.

Thankyou Robbie for putting the spirit of competing back into Sport.

It is reported here in Australia that a single fan's email to Robbie Gordon caused the turn around. In a flash a phone call was made to Robbie's team and then to Marcus.

When the flag drops, the red mist descends & incidents like last week occur. It is a wonderful that once the race is over & all is calm, that true actions in the spirit of the sport can take place.

The car will still carry Robbie's Camping World sponsorship plus Marcus' Busch series Kingsford Charcoal sponsorship. Plus most of his pit crew will be from Marcus' regular Wood brothers team.

Marcus was not a multiple Australian Touring Car champion by being slow. The ovals have been a challenge to him but as at Montreal, his true speed & mindset will bring him to the front.

I loved the comments from Marcos in the RGM press release. Very cool!

“Well, they say that America is the land of opportunity, and I guess this is proof of that,” said Ambrose.

“A bit of old outback Australian culture involved playing a game of Australian football, having a fight and then heading to the pub together for a beer – I guess this is a bit like that.

“This is part apology and part compliment on Robby’s behalf. I believe we can have a solid run this weekend and give Ford, Camping World and the rest of Robby Gordon Motorsports’ sponsors a good return on their investment.

“In some respects this is a no-lose situation for me because I get to break into NEXTEL Cup without the regular burden of things like owner and championship points.

“Obviously, this indicates there is no animosity between us, and we will both be out there looking for the best result possible in our Fords.”

Great news and Robby has made a wise choice putting Ambrose in one of his cars.Ambrose may be getting a little beat up on the ovals but road racing is another story. Win,win situation for both of them I think and a sponsors dream. Watch how much attention the both of these guys get in the telecast from Watkins Glen.

ROBBY GORDON MOTORSPORTS TO FIELD MARCOS AMBROSE IN NEXTEL CUP DEBUT

Robby Gordon Motorsports will field Australian Marcos Ambrose in the Busch Series rookie’s NASCAR Nextel Cup Series debut in the Centurion Boats at The Glen at Watkins Glen this weekend.

After one of the most controversial incidents in NASCAR’s recent history last weekend, Ambrose has accepted a ‘peace offering’ from Gordon to drive the #77 Camping World Ford Fusion, which will also carry some signage from Ambrose’s regular sponsor Kingsford Charcoal.

Ambrose led 37 laps, more than any other driver, in the NAPA Auto Parts 200 in Montreal last weekend and was on course to record his first NASCAR Busch Series win when he was turned around by Gordon while leading at the second corner at a restart with two laps remaining.

As a penalty, Gordon was eliminated from the following day’s Nextel Cup race, and while he strongly disagreed with the calls during the Busch race, he has accepted NASCAR’s decision and wants to put the incident behind him.

Ambrose will continue his NASCAR Busch campaign on Saturday in the #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion for Wood Brothers/JTG Racing, but will now do ‘double duty’ in the Robby Gordon Motorsports entry.

Gordon will drive the #55 Verizon Wireless Ford Fusion in the Busch race and the #7 Jim Beam Ford Fusion in the Nextel Cup Series race.

The Sunday event will be a joint effort between Robby Gordon Motorsports and Wood Brothers/JTG Racing, with Ambrose’s regular Kingsford crew doing the pit work and his new Crew Chief Ernie Cope calling the shots from the box on Sunday.

Ambrose was originally scheduled to make his Nextel Cup debut in a Wood Brothers/JTG Racing entry this weekend, but several circumstances meant the team had to put their plans on hold.

Ambrose is considered somewhat of a road racing specialist who won two Australian V8 Supercar Championships on road courses for Ford before turning his attention to NASCAR at the beginning of last year.

He started his career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, has progressed to the NASCAR Busch Series this season and now gets his chance to make his debut in North America’s highest level of competition, NASCAR’s Nextel Cup Series.

He currently sits eighth in the NASCAR Busch Series points and second in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings.

While your enthusiam for Marcos is laudable and understandable, don't let it carry over to Robby. He can be a good guy when it suits his ego, like now, but for the most part, I suspect he isn't one of the most well liked guy's in NASCAR. There is a reason he started his own team, mainly in that most people cant work with him. Talent he has, ego he has too much of, and temper that overrides judgement under stress.

Marcos is a good guy and to put him in the same sentence with Robby Gordon pains me....

Robby is a tough competitor who refuses to lose. He's brash and outspoken and lacks a lot of respect for authority. He reminds me of a few other notable racers, past and current. Some people will tell you that RCR let him go which is not entirely true. His goal was always to have his own team and he wanted to learn from one of the best. He also has said that he learned a lot from RC. He just wanted to do things his way and it wasn't possible at RCR.

Love him or hate him he can race the wheels off just about anything with four tires. He also puts butts in the seats. NASCAR should cut him a check for all the free publicity he gave them this week and into next week too. NASCAR is playing checkers and Robby is playing chess.

Mark that was in relation of them racing on the track, nothing to do with there egos, i was responding to another poster that just got me thinking we have had Americans race that race but they have only been mediocher at best it seems that this track is to scary for them , but Robby would be a lot different seeing that he does a lot of other driving & it would suit his style of not giving up. & this is the one race Marcos would like to conquer
The 2 of them together might even bring some Americans out to see why the other driveres are in awe of this great race! You have Daytona 500 we have Bathurst1000, those 2 are the holy grail in racing for tin tops!

sometimes you have to read between the lines it's more fun that way!

cheers Mate

I think I have made it plain in the past, I have little use for Robby Gordon. He is a know-it-all who loves to race and has his own way of doing things. Look up teamwork in the dictionary and it stands opposite for the way Robby works when he is with any team. It is why he had to get his own team. Robby has his own notions of how to do things. It is only his immense talent that has kept him in the sport this long.

The guy can drive I wont dispute, but he is just way too much of a butt head. Tony Stewart carries a lot of the same baggage, but somehow Tony can subvert himself to work for a team that will take him to the top. Tony knows he cant do it alone, and in calmer moments admits it freely. How else could he work with Zippy for all these years? Robby on the other hand.....well Robby just does what he does, and if you go along with him great, and if you have a better idea and he doesn't want to hear it, tough. Now he is giving Marcos a ride. Great for Marcos and I give Robby a cookie for doing something decent for a change, but it wont change the fact that Robby Gordon is a loose cannon, and it has lost him more quality rides than he can fathom....

You will only get that chance in the Busch race now, all because of the favourites, i read that Gordon was really happy that it rained, seeing that he said he car wasn't that good, & he was in the pace car & a little bit of rain fall on his windscreen, what a woos, if this did happen & the qual was delayed by his comments , he is the biggest joke in motor racing.

Here is a thought i have , what if the favs in JG JR TS , were sitting outside the top35, don't you think that a new rule would have been made & the qual of the GOGH would have magically appeared to do it in saturday morning!
