Rally driver P-G Andersson has had his driver's licence revoked after he was caught speeding on a road near his home in Årjäng in western Sweden.
Sveriges Radio reports that Andersson was driving at a speed of 121 km per hour on a road with a 90 km/h limit.
Without a licence he is automatically ruled out of competing at an upcoming event in Finland. Although some countries permit unlicenced drivers to compete in rallies on unused roads, Finland makes no such exemptions.
Though disappointed, Andersson has resigned himself to missing out on the Finnish race. But he is counting on being back in the driving seat for the World Rally Championship race to be held in Germany next month.
"I hope to get a dispensation for Germany. If I don't get it, it could be very detrimental to my career," he told Expressen
