That really shows how much wider modern cars are compared to the counterparts from only a decade ago!

I noticed this also, the model number for the Car is TR121, which GPL have in stock as the Win Percy Car, whilst Trax have it as a pre-order but the Rouse car, but both with the same model number???

Just finished a mod to the Giovanardi Vectra, added some Dunlop decals to the tyres, which finish the car off. Also once off the plinth the ride height does improve. Here's a piccy.
So where did you find the 1/43 Dunlop decals?

Found them at www.grandprixmodels.co.uk (http://www.grandprixmodels.co.uk), looked under Decals, and typed in tyres. They are called Tyre Sidewall Markings Decals.

It does look nice. I am tempted. It's good to see these RS500s being released now, there's so many potential models they can come up with.

I placed my order with a buy it now on eBay, still waiting for it to arrive after what has been about four days wait now. I also bought a Minichamps Sierra Cosworth, a DTM Biella car, cant wait for them to arrive.

Also when choosing which BTCC Sierra i found there was a chioce of driver, Win Percy or Rob Gravett for the same car. I went for the Win Percy version.

I have also added the 2007 Vectra to my collection, its a very nice model, but not Minichamps quality which is a shame, but for 9.99 you cant complain too much.

Robb Gravett did run an ICS machine in some races for RouseSport in 1988. Maybe it's that?

Well maybe it was an error by one of the sellers, but when i was choosing which ebay shop to buy from i came across the same model listed as driven by Gravett. Like i said though i bought the Percy model, which arrived today along with my brand spanking new 1989 DTM Sierra driven by Biela.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what are the rare BTCC models are because I dont have any idea as to what price range to put on the models as to whether they are bargains etc. On ebay I know you bid upto what price you rate the the model at, but I wondered what models people would pay that little extra for, does that make sense???

24th July 2008, 11:12
for 1/43rd scale I would say £15 and under is a good bargain £15-£30 is reasonable and normally the best quality and £30 and over is what I would say was a rip off.

daz90
24th July 2008, 20:17
For an Onyx model i would look to pay 10 to 15 pounds, less than a tenner and thats a bargain. Racing Replica models are rare, especially the Cavaliers, they will fetch quite a bit of money providing a few bidders are very keen.

Indeed i would rate the different cavalier models among the most desired and expensive models around, add the 1995 Mondeo's and 95/96 Volvo 850's to that bracket too. Then comes the even more desired and expensive Volvo 850 estate of lammers and Rydell, also the Alfa 155 of 94 champion Tarquini, these often fetch 50 quid plus, and that Alfa is one car that has eluded me for many years, i just dont want to pay that much for one. The 95 and 96 BMW's also command a premium, they are pretty rare though, as is the 96 Audi A4, you dont see many of those on eBay.

50 upwards, i have seen them reach 80 pounds before, it all depends on how many bidders want it badly. Indeed i would say those two BMW's are the rarest of all BTCC cars, however i do believe Solido also made 95 replica's of the Goldeneye BMW's of Ceccoto and Brabham, i dont think they were all that great quality wise though, certainly not Minichamps standard.

I was lucky, i bought my 96 Winklehock for about 40 pounds from a German shop. As for my 95 Ceccoto, i believe i payed the going rate, about 60 pounds.

I have nearly all the models from 1993-2004.
I only need the following.
1993 Matt Neal BMW by Racing Replicas
1995 Paul Radisich Mondeo by Racing Replicas
1995 Kelvin Burt Mondeo by Racing Replicas
1996 Kelvin Burt Volvo by Minichamps
1998 Rickard Rydell by Onyx.

I don't have Gio's Vectra as I don't like the quality very much of the Oxford Diecast version.

I "sold" mine for £15 last year on eBay. Buyer didn't respond to the card in his door from the post office telling him he'd missed a delivery, so I refunded him and it was returned to me a month later by the post office. Glad I didn't lose it now, it's a rare post-1999 BTCC model after all.

Thats cheap for that price
are they 1/43 diecast and whats the quality like?

It's better than the old Onyx BTCC models in terms of build quality. Maybe not as accurate as a Spark or a Minichamps in terms of the ride height and the interior, but at that price, I'm sure somebody like yourself could modify it to your satisfaction. :)

Had the same thing this morning, the Gio and Neal cars arrived, but a credit note for the TOC Vectra. I presume they will send it when it's available. Bit annoying as I ordered them on the day they went on sale :(

They did have problems with the 2007 Vectra in that demand outstripped supply at first, so there were delays. Maybe it's happened again. It's the same car being sold at the VXR outlet.

Found out something interesting. R.A.E. models were commissioned by Ray Bellm's late father Tony to make many models over the years, I'm guessing these have similar origins.

Tony launched the Piccolino range of 1:76 scale white metal handbuilt models, produced for him by RAE. He was also the 'angel' who enabled RAE to purchase the ex-Mikansue patterns to augment their 1:43 scale range, and then passed on the Piccolino range to RAE as well.

I only found that out by trying to find photos of his model collection, which is partly on display in the BRDC Clubhouse at Silverstone. I've been told by someone who works there that it's very impressive indeed.

I was told that Ray's father was part of RAE models!..

I have contacted the company and am waiting for a reply on how many were produced, their value at the time of production and their estimated worth today.

The set in question was given to the Team Manager at Team Dynamics, who in turn gave them to the present owner who is looking to part with them...

Easliy done. Took me about 20 minutes... Take the model apart. Gently remove one wheel from each axle. Then take a round needle file, lengthen the hole that the axle goes through!

You can't go too far as the wheel will hit the top of the inner arch! Make sure you go dont go ofline with the file!

I must admit that recently my collecting has slowed right down, the only recent ish additions have been a Vauxhall Vectra of Giovanardi, 2008. A very nice and so far my only M3 of Erik Bristow from the BTCC, cant recall the year now though, 1990 ish, its a labbats car. And instead of converting a rally based sierra Sapphire to the 1992 Rob Gravett car he raced that season, i bought a ready made motor pro one from ebay, so i now have a spare set of decalls for said car if anyone else is interested.

I wont be converting my intended model, i shall keep it in the rally trim, as i now have a decent collection of Sierra models.

Biante produced models I get direct from them.

For cars made by Classic Carlectables I usually do a search on the Australian E-bay.

Although many only list posting to Oz, no one yet has told me they won't post to the UK!

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CLASSIC-1-43-MARK-SKAIFE-2008-HOLDEN-RACING-TEAM_W0QQitemZ260341137213QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_To ys_Hobbies_Diecast_Vehicles?hash=item260341137213&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

$49 is about £23! For that you get a fully detailed model inside and out, even underneath with steering, suspension and exhaust system.

Just imagine what the 1/18 models are like.. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Classic-1-18-Mark-Skaifes-Year-2008-Holden-Racing-Team_W0QQitemZ260343141073QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_To ys_Hobbies_Diecast_Vehicles?hash=item260343141073&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

Hello chaps. Not posted in awhile, but thought i would check it out to see if my fellow collecters have been busy adding to their respective collections or not.

As for myself, i havn't added much to my BTCC collection, just a 1991 Rob Gravett Sierra, and Laurence Bristow M3 from 1990. Apart from that i have added a few to my F1 collection, but to be honest there just isn't much about at the minute. I find that eBay has been overtaken by eBay shops rather than the good old days when a bargain might have been availiable in a proper auction, now even most regular sellers are trying to sell there items with the 'buy it now' option. Which is dissapointing.

Question - how difficult is it if you wanted you make your own car, you had the base model, paint and decals..?

Like said you have to have the confidence to take it on or do a bit at a time and not rush it

I have been building models for years and still get it wrong or have to put the model aside in that if you rush it you will mess it up
Have a look at some I have done

If you haven't done it before the it may be worth practising on other models first before attempting to start a model you really want to do. I've only making my own cars for just over a year and still not that great yet (so it will be a while before I start the 95 Cleland car!). My first models were 1/43 Revell Le Mans cars that came in a pack as they were cheap and didn't matter if I did them wrong (learnt quite a few lessions that way)

Best tip I got (PDS I think!) is don't rush it, a good model could take a few months before it's finished.

I've just finished spraying the 1st coat on 6 body shells tonight!

Also I now have 2 kits that are surplus to requirements (1993 Watts Mazda and 1994 Primera) PM me if anyone is interested.
