I'm looking forward to this rally as I will be on the stages. Which stages do you recommend. I will definetly be at Slušovice and Pindula, but I don't know about the others.
:D
Who is your favourite?
Karbonyl
23rd July 2007, 14:23
There will be two new stages, which were used in the past. Both of them are on the program of the Sunday's leg. SS Zádveřice is nice and quite fast stage between the fields, SS Janišov was run in the 80's and shows classical and the toughest form of rallying in this region.
In the question of the starting field it's quite soon to talk about concrete names, but we surely can look forward to last year winner Roman Kresta and his mitsu, with which he will challenge the foreign S2000 crews for the first time.

That would be great if Bryan Bouffier entered this rally with the 207 S2000, because I think he finished 3rd overall last year in a 206 S1600... :)

With 207 S2000 from Schmidt/Tagai will start Janos Toth. If Bouffier will start here, it wont be in S2000.

Abarth had from the beginning plans to changing Scandola and Alen event by event. So for Scandola was plan Maderia, for Alen Barum, for Scandola Sanremo...
And Basso will be here - but only as consultant to Abarth and spectator :(

Wim_Impreza (http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/member.php?u=88580): It is a little bit more complicated... The first thing is the Evo homologation. Yes, there are some cars here in Czech rep. which would not compete (Evo VIII rebuildt to IX etc.). But the other problem is that Czech international championship is opened to anyone. That means Czech champ points from Barum Rally will be very hard to achieve due to great foreign drivers and some crews say they don't have enough money for such expensive trip... It is sad but it is reality.

One of the most famous special stages in Barum Rally are Pindula and Trojak, but I don't think they are that interesting from a spectator's point of view. The road is very narrow and among many trees
(http://www.rallyonline.pl/ft.php?idg=1825&pg_[go]=12) in dark forests (http://www.rallyonline.pl/ft.php?idg=1825&pg_[go]=11), so very often it's difficult to find a good place to take photographs.
I think I prefer the stages that are led in open fields sporadically going through villages or small towns (http://www.rallyonline.pl/ft.php?idg=1825&pg_[go]=27). Also the environment is more beautiful (http://www.rallyonline.pl/ft.php?idg=1825&pg_[go]=22).
My photos from last year you can see at http://www.rallyonline.pl/g.php?1&pg_[desc]=+DESC&modex=pokaz&T[id]=1825
There will be one new stage in the 2007 edition of the rally, but I don't know what the characteristics of this new stage is.

Tom, I think García Ojeda will be faster because he was here last year. Our bumpy and damaged tarmac stages are very hard to find a good setup. But I wish Nicolas no problems with setup. Everyone here wants the tightest possible fight for podium ;-)
I think Travaglia has the biggest chance to win because he won here twice in the past and because he will drive S2000 car as well. Of course I keep my fingers crossed for Roman Kresta. But I don't know how his Mitsu will be able to fight with S2000...

What about Andrea Navarra? His lead in IRC is small, so he is forsed to push very strong-end of calculation, as his Punto left him with zero points after Madeira. He has most expirience in S2000, he drove it whole season 2006 in Italiy. It will be interesting....
For Travaglia this time it will not be easy-it is first time in S2000-remember, he is used to turbo engines, this one is quite different. He drove clio S1600 two years ago...

Any news abou the skoda fabia S2000? It was expecting that the fabia run this rally as a zero car...Anyone knows anything about it?
At the end of leg 1 at Acropolis Rally I did a small interview with Jan Kopecky in which I asked him about his future and he answered me that the only thing I know about next year is that I am going to be driving the new Skoda Fabia S2000, but I do not know yet in which championship!
Karbonyl
17th August 2007, 15:25
Jan Kopecky is heading BIG question, because, as atsiotras79 wrote, his team should be the first one, that gets new S2000 Fabia when it will have been ready and available. But It will be during the year, not earlier than in summer, and the team doesn't know, what are they going to do at the beginning of the season. Probably they will not run another season of WRC with Fabia WRC, because this car isn't competetive already this year anymore. So hard decision for CRT Kopecky...
atsiotras79
18th August 2007, 09:10
Yes, very hard decision for the team. I believe that Jan worths something more than the Fabia WRC in the "big league". He deserves a better WRC car! Karbonyl, I did not say that that CRT will be the first team to get the Fabia S2000, I said that Jan told me that he will be driving the Fabia S2000 next season.

Vašek Pech just crashed his car in Prachatice, luckily the crew is ok and I think they have another car to race on Barum.
RS
18th August 2007, 11:24
Firstly, why the hell is it taking so long for Skoda Motorsport to prepare the Fabia S2000, they've probably had the shell of the new road car for over a year now, so next summer will be 2 years. It had better be good!
Secondly, I disagree about the Fabia WRC losing competitiveness. Maybe it is partly Jan getting better and better as a driver, but look at his times in Deutschland. He is very competitive.
I think they should do the first half of the year with the Fabia WRC in WRC next year, and second half with Fabia S2000 in IRC.
For the future, IRC is the only sensible option. PWRC has not enough publicity. The events in IRC also make much more sense for Skoda.
Karbonyl
18th August 2007, 14:33
atsiotras79: I know that you didn't say that, but I know, that it said a new chief of Skoda Motorsport, Mr. Hrabanek :-)
Filip: the car shouldn't be damaged very bad, definitely easier situation for Pech and his team than for Odlozilik and JM Engineering with their destroyed punto (according to the hot news this fiat should be ready for Barum rally!).
RS: The new boss of Skoda Motorsport said that they are going to work longer on Fabia S2000 to make it 100% competetive when released. They remember cases of Octavia WRC and Fabia WRC, which were launeched too early and that showed many many technical problems during rallys instead of tests. I disagree that Fabia WRC is competetive. It's pretty fast, but not enough, also Kopecky, who is former circuit driver and is fastest on tarmac rallys, says that he is often hardly pushing not on, but hardly behind the limits of his car. I thing this way od rallying is not necessary when fightig for sixth seventh place...
Filip
18th August 2007, 16:21
Kopecky just said that this is his last season with WRC and he is going to drive S2000 next year. I hope the Fabia s2000 will be at least as fast as Fiat or Pug so he can prove his potential. :)

About Fabia S2000... the project was allowed by VW representatives in the autumn, I think. So it is not 2 years of work. Maybe about a half of one because the blue car from auto show was not a prototype but only demonstrator built by using existing parts from other cars. And as Karbonyl said, Mr. Hrabanek, new Škoda Motorsport boss, said to develop the car together with CRT and maybe to have a factory team in 2009 season.
Fabia WRC is not competitive car and it never was a competitive car. Unfortunately.
About Pech's crash... I think it is his first crash from a 2004 Jänner rally where he rolled his Focus WRC.
RS
18th August 2007, 21:38
I'm surprised you guys think the Fabia is not and never was competitive. Look at Jan's times from Deutschland today, for sure he is an excellent tarmac driver, perhaps one of the best, but the car is 2 years old and he is mostly well under 1 s/km from the top. Perhaps if this car had been driven and setup properly in 2005 when it was launched things could have been different, but that is a different story!
As far as the S2000 goes, there are some good thoughts there. On the other hand testing is no substitute for competition... and autumn 2006 to summer 2008 is all but 2 years of development. However if this approach works and it can win from the start I will be more than happy ;)

Yep, they should have got rid of Dr M, and Mr Metrich, hired Josef Kopecky as team boss and had Colin and Duval as drivers then it could have all been very different...

Unfortunately I could see dyno charts from Fabia's WRC and I must say that it's engine was very weak (in that time I saw it). The worst one was 03 version which was even weaker than Octavia or Corolla...

Tom206wrc: SS Pindula goes mostly through deep forest and probably now in the morning there are many sticky places under the trees. Not good at all for S1600 cars.

It's a pity that Kresta had that puncture. It seems he and Pech are the only Mitsubishi drivers who can set the same pace as the S2000's. Travaglia is not bad in his first outing in the Punto, Alén, Garcia Ojeda and Loix are very fast too.

Very interesting rally, Ojeda is driving really fantastic, I've never seen him driving so fast. The only pity is that Kresta has a puntcure, he could fight for win. I'm surprised also of Grzegorz Grzyb - he isn't losing many to first in 2WD, Simon Jean-Joseph. Also a good rally for Toth.

This is what Freddy said in Madeira
Loix: “De Punto is a complete other car then the VW polo. They have both their qualities. Of course the Punto is more developed than the polo, because it concerns here a factory car. But I now see that our development work with the polo was not bad. I also like the Punto. It is a stable, predictable car.
