My humble 406 1.9 turbo diesel would be illegal under these laws that are being proposed :mark: Silly silly people.....
Politicians who have no understanding of mechanics or physics. Cars are not designed for top speeds, they are mostly designed for acceleration and load carrying, up to about 80mph, a side effect of which is that they can exceed 100mph. Are there actually any normal cars on sale today which can't get to 100?

Very true. Also just realised that my 504 could also do a 100 as well do basically the only cars we could have without needing limiters are engines less than 1.2l

My old Escort van could do nearly 90, on a good day, with a prevailing wind, and a decent down hill slope :\

My Punto will be OK as it only goes nighty-odd mph :D (Unless I was going down a hill, then it would be banned)
"Cars designed to go at stupid speeds have to be built to withstand the effects of a crash at those speeds. They are heavier than necessary, less fuel efficient and produce too many emissions," says Davies,
 This is a reason for fast cars. If cars are built to withstand impacts at 150mph, then surely they are much safer in lower speed impacts?
Also cars that go over 100mph will need to have better brakes?
Over engineering cars can only be a good thing.

What an idiot. There's plenty of cars around that can barely do 100mph yet are heavier and less efficient than a Ferarri.
He should do his bit for the preservation of the human race and go get himself sterilised.

A car designed to do 120 will be relatively efficient "pottering along" at 70. Silly man.
However, I can forsee a time when cars are fitted with tracking devices for charging purposes which would easily allow speed to be calculated, and that information could be used to issue fines, bans or arrest warrants. :s
My first car a 1986 Nissan Micra 1.0l could go over 100mph, ban that too!

I wish people like that would eat buckshot, as they're the ones producing too many emissions. They seem to have no problem at all with restricting peoples freedoms with what they can and cant do without actually knowing what the hell theyre talking about. Which is surely more dangerous than having a car that is capable of going fast. A ban on dumb politicians!
A car may be designed to withstand hitting a solid object at 120mph, but a head on collision at a perfectly legal 60mph has exactly the same energy.
