one of the best features of this circuit was sadly left out by the Codemaster staff.

I don't know how to add it to the game, but you can get an idea of what I'm talking about here:

The cars have started to go around the Gold Coast track. The "corner cutting official" is very severe in Time Trial. Remember you have only until Thursday evening!
QUALIFYING: Here are the top times so far:

2.Vuko Snr.....1m.23.22(unofficial)

Was just about to post a 1:28.41, thinking where have I lost up to 6 seconds a lap? Then I realised we're racing at Queensland, not Surfers' Paradise. I think you need to make the track name clearer in the intro post!

EDIT - It is Indy!? lol how is a 1:22 around there possible? I was right up against the barriers, as fast as you could really go through the chicanes yet I'm 6 seconds a lap too slow?!

I'm on my way there from Tannat's race in Nashville now. I've been on this track once or twice and it didn't look too tough to learn so I should be OK. been watching Indy Car races there for years & years.

I'll have my time in at 8 am Thursday New York time, which I believe is about 8 PM western australia time - but 10 PM Queensland time :(

and even more interesting it's like 9:30 middle Australia time.....

i think i did a 1:27.something (or 1:26, or a 1:28..cant remember) in practise...considering my circumstances, with no net and limited access to the library..can i use that as my qualifying time?

I might be able to log in tomorow (thurs morning) and post a time that i'm definate about.

:)

That's fine real_illusions. Not many qualifying times in. Points are up for grabs for the top 5! Sloma & BobZee are leading the way, both not letting each other take the upper hand. I'm struggling a little on this track - I don't like it much in normal simulation mode - too much depends on how you get through the first corner & the back straight chicane - a lot of luck needed with the corner cutting official !! I'm going to have one quick session tomorrow. Vuko Jnr has arrived late at the track & will also give it a good go tomorrow. Remember times are due tomorrow night(Thurs) at 8pm so if you are going to partake in this event get a time in so that I can give out details for the race because I am trying something different - where's J.B - he's very quiet of late!!!

No extensions for qualifying as I need to announce the details for the race tonight because you will only have until Sunday for the race. We need to start to stick to due times - if it means less competitors, so be it!

5.Jon Brown.......1m:22.92.......1pt
6.Tannat...........1m:27.40

Only 6 qualifiers! A little disappointing. Sloma far too quick.

RACE DETAILS:
We are going to try something different this Rd:
LENGTH: 5 lap sprint
STARTING POSITIONS:
*Sloma,BobZee, Vuko Snr & Jnr to start at the BACK of the grid.
*Jon Brown,J.Shell & dcr22B to start in the MIDDLE of the grid.
*Tannat & Spackman to start at the FRONT of the grid.
*Anyone else taking part, please tell me so I can place you on the grid.
SETTINGS:
*Free Set Up
*Corner Cutting ON * Careless Driving OFF
*A.I: HARD
TIMES: O/T & F/L due Tuesday evening.

This should be interesting. The guys at the back will do it tough for the first few laps. Can the front runners hold on???The corner cutting is ON but it is nowhere near as severe in race mode as it was in Time Trial mode.
Good Luck!

everyone's gotta start somewhere steve! just hang in there. you'll learn a lot by running the race & you'll come back next year even stronger.

plus with you & tannat starting in the front you'll have a REAL opportunity to pick up a place during the race as I'll be starting in the middle and I'm having serious trouble taming this track.

Peter Vuko

The secret to a decent time here is the first right corner - I use 4th gear, but getting through the corner with speed - by breaking early between the 150m -100m signs then accelerating as you round it ( it's called slow in fast out!) The other part of the track is the chicanes on the back part. Again slowish in, fast out - I approach in 6th then change into 5th just before the 1st chicane - don't oversteer here & yo uwill get through (most times) with speed - sometimes in racemode I change to 4th..
*People's comments on the grid placement idea????

With only a 5 lap race it should be very interesting.

I think as this track has long straights, the trick is to get on the power coming out of the corner as soon as possible. As I don't get the same steering lock using a hand controller I have to use a bit of handbrake on approach. I also have the car set up for over-steer. (soft on the front, hard on the rear) This means that around many corner I have full opposite lock and use the power to turn the car in.

johnny shell
6th July 2007, 16:46
thanks for the tips. hopefully I can drive this one slow & under control & end up with a decent time.

JB, I think you should have a good shot at a podium here.

as for me, I think I'll revert back to my goal at the begining of the season - anything but last!

which is why I'm trying to so hard to get Spackman to race! j/k

oh yeah - I like the race format Peter. I think getting a head start is cool of course :) I hope you do it again on a track I'm better on so I might be able to take proper advantage of it. and I like the short race too - both because it gives you less time to catch me, and because driving this track for me is like a trip to the dentist.

1:21.45!

I modified my PS2 to rotate the CD against the earth's rotation like the Australian's do, instead of with it..... and now the game is like running in slow motion compared to before!

it's sssoooo much easier!

Even if I lapped at Sloma's 1minute 20 pace for 4 laps? Lets work it out. 7minutes is 420 seconds. 80 seconds x 4laps = 320seconds + 90seconds (for 1st lap starting mid field) = 410seconds.

Thats 6 minutes and 50 seconds.

I think it's achievable, but not for me.

What grade do I get, Mr Vuko? :D :D

I hope Peter's right because I was very very far from the seven minute mark.

I believe the problem with young Mr Brown's formula is that if he were capable of 1:20 laps he would be starting at the back, not in the middle.

am I correct Mr V?

How long did it take you to get into 1st Jonny?

johnny shell
10th July 2007, 14:17
I was into the 2nd lap I believe. I think I passed the last two cars coming out of the chicane on the front stretch, or maybe going into that first sharp left hander.

I think I need to set up 1st gear strictly for the starts. I set first gear high, to use during the race, and I lost quite a few places on the start.

of course I made those spots up my suicide braking several cars and jumping the curbing heading into the first chicane though :)

but I did just manage to keep two wheels close enough to the track to avoid even getting a warning though.

I saved my warning to use it passing those last two cars at that first sharp left hander :D

2 points of the DTM lead?? Maybe ;) I have been on the podium every round so far, just like another certain Briton :D

I think I found extra speed by spending most of last week playing on Project Gotham Racing. For some reason when I went back to play on TRD it seemed easier and I went faster.

Things will be much harder though if I don't get any more help with being handicapped :(
