Does anyone have any good memories of the place? Doesn't have to be stock cars as I know that it was a legendary road course for all types of series.

With the forum still enjoying a great race at Sonoma, I was just reminded how Sonoma was very similar to Riverside. When I was a naive rookie NASCAR fan I used to think they were the same track. I've only seen old B&W pictures. The Esses at Riverside and Sonoma are very similar plus they have picturesque elevation changes.

here's another site featuring som great 80s Nascar pics from Riverside.
too bad Riverside couldn't survive until the 90s. the few races i've seen from there were far and away greater than any snoozer California has run.

My memories of Riverside are from watching "Circuit", which is a great Tape, I don't think its ever been released on DVD. Hell, I don't think you can find it anywhere but for Ebay and the like nowadays.

If you can, grab it, for less than ten bucks you can watch some kick ass Can Am racing with Teo Fabi, Danny Sullivan, Bobby Rahal, etc, etc...see where the CART teams and Stars cut their teeth.

Riverside was NOT like Sonoma. It was a lot faster than Sonoma and it took some balls to drive. Not that Sonoma is a bad layout or anything, but Riverside just seemed more of a test of high speed handling than the techinical nature that is Infineon. Watkins Glen has a bit more in common with the old Riverside layout.

This new one has the same sort of shape, but I wonder about the elevation changes and feel it will have. IT looks great, but all of these great multiplex ideas only seem to stay on paper. I wish them well.....
