http://www.jayski.com/cupnews.htm Jeff Gordon's timeline this weekend during Baby Watch: #24-Jeff Gordon officially is on a baby watch. Doctors have told the Nextel Cup points leader that his daughter, whose due date is June 29, could come at any time. That has forced the four-time Cup champion to come up with several contingency plans for this weekend's road course race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma.
Should the baby be born on Wednesday, Gordon will take a day and a half off before flying to Sonoma for Friday's qualifying.
Should she be born on Friday he will return home immediately, let Mark Martin qualify the car and then likely return for the race on Sunday.
Should she be born on Saturday, he'll likely turn the car over to Martin, who is on standby as he takes a break in his part-time schedule with Ginn Racing, for the rest of the weekend.
And should she be born on Sunday during the race, he'll fly home immediately afterward. "There's not a lot I can do about that, but I hope that doesn't happen," Gordon said last weekend at Michigan International Speedway. Unlike any other driver chasing a spot in the top 12, Gordon can afford to take a weekend off. He has a 264-point lead over second-place #11-Denny Hamlin in the standings. He also has four wins, which will give him an important 40 bonus points once the championship chase begins. The first pictures of the baby will be released on Gordon's Web site, http://www.jeffgordon.com, within a few hours of the birth. Gordon wants to avoid this becoming a big media event, like the births of other celebrity children.(ESPN.com)(6-20-2007)

Jeff Gordon and Ingrid Vandebosch on Wednesday welcomed a new daughter into the world, according to the driver's Web site. Ella Sofia Gordon was born at 9:09 a.m., weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches long.
"It's been an absolutely incredible experience," Gordon said. "Ingrid came through amazingly and we're both really happy and overjoyed. We can't wait to get home and start our lives together as a family."
The four-time Cup Series champion will travel to Sonoma, Calif., later this week and is scheduled to participate in all on-track activities at Infineon Raceway, site of Sunday's Cup race.

Well that ends that speculation. Nothing is a more meaningless story than an athlete hemming and hawing on competing when his wife is due. I congratulate Jeff for being a Dad, but I am bored with the media analysing each famous athlete for wondering how they can be there for the birth while competing. We went through it with Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Now Jeffy for starters, and I cant think of a more banal story. It is nice they are going to be dad's and we all know they will be there, so why worry about the logistics? Tell me when the kid is born and get on with it. If he misses an event for the birth, it says he has his priorities in line.

Jeff could have SKIPPED two races and still made the Chase, so why sweat it? Be there for what really matters...and tell the press that you have your priorities and to shut up.

I don't like Jeffy as a racer; however all things told he has my best reguards and wishes as he tries to concur his greatest feat of all time. Being well off and having a daughter that doesn't turn into a media circus. Good luck and congradulations.

Working in the OB-GYN field, I didnt quite understand why Jeff was so worried about missing the birth. I would guess that more than half of all births are with inductions. More & more people want to be able to plan around the big day. Its very simple to know when the baby is ready by ultrasound. (observing the breathing patterns to evaluate lung maturity, checking the maturity of the placenta, etc) I dont see anything wrong with getting alittle help to begin labor as long as all of the criteria are met. Im sure people have personal reasons that they may not want to be induced but sometimes it can become a necessity. (such as when the amniotic fluid is low, etc)
Anyway, it helps to be able to plan for it. For me it gave me the assurance that I would have a babysitter for my other children and make sure my responsibilities at work were taken care of since no one else would be doing my job while I was on maternity leave.

I sure agree with you. What a beautiful baby. I can see a resemblance to Jeff in the bottom photo.
