There is nothing more beautiful than a '57 Chevy Bel Air.

Wow! I learned to drive in a sweetheart like that pic on the bottom. It had a cream roof but otherwise it looks the same. :)

nah, it's funny. Look at the headlight decals! they still have a hendrick logo in the decal, and it's in the proper spot, but it looks soooo out of place. the effect is great!

I'll be sure to pull this out next time I go on about how the cars are so generic and can't be identified without their decals.

I don't think that anyone debates that the only thing that differentiates the cars is decals, we debate weather or not this is a good thing.

Take another look at that thing with decals on it, and tell me that's a good thing.

I thought I'd bump this up since it's topical.
Goodyear should have done a batch of whitewall race tires to go with it ;-)

My Aunt & Uncle got one in the early 60s, I got to drive it in the mid 70s. Took it up to Griffith Park and back down to the valley on twisty Mt Hollywood Dr (where the fire was last week, and it's used alot in TV shows & movies). I was surprised how well that big heavy car handled through the curves. A year or so later they sold it for a couple of hundred dollars because it needed $200 in work. Six months later they're seeing all these stories in the news on how collectable it had become.

I watched Cup practice today & I have to say the cars with the '57 Chevy theme looked crappy. :s
I love the '57 Chevy but a decaled stockcar just doesn't do it justice.

It looks bad enough on showcars, but on asymetrical race cars that look like melted tuperware, it's actually worse.

The '57 Chevy was a beautiful car in it's day (still is in my mind at least) but those decals just don't cut it.

At least if one of the announcers makes a comment about the 'chrome horn' it will make sense, sort of. ;-)

NASCAR seems to think that a few decals pasted here & there becomes some kind of a tribute ..... http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/rolleyes.gif
I think it's dumb & I am surprised Chevrolet went along with it. http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/s.gif

That's NASCAR for you. All show and little substance.

Interstate Batteries made the #18 authentic with 1957-era logos instead of the contemporary logo on the cars. Budweiser should have done the same too.

Does Stan finally disagree with NASCAR?

I do try to support NASCAR & their decisions as it is my favorite sport.
I look for the positive side of things instead of dwelling on the negative.

However some things are just so dumb I find it impossible to be supportive.
The '57 Chevy tribute is one of them.

I didn't notice that when looking through all the schemes today but that is pretty nice. I did notice that DuPont was nice enough to not cover up where the fin is on the side and rather had their logo lower on the side. But I do give it up to Interstate Batteries for using the proper logos.

Talk about the dumbest idea in a long time, this is it. Gawd awful to try to look at. Maybe if they put it on the COT.....naaaaaaah....
