View Full Version : [ERC] 2007 Rally Vinho Madeira
[Madeira-Rally]
14th June 2007, 11:26
Rally Vinho Madeira was always one of the most important rallys in ERC in previous Years, the competition here is always very important for ERC drivers, because the race is difficult for foreigners drivers.. so.. to win in Madeira, it mus be a good rally driver, and, a victory here, means some "status" in European rallys.
This year there is no big changes in the route, it's almost the same of previous years, only a little details change, but nothing very significant.
For sure this rally will have a nice entry list, people here are expecting a really nice entry list with 20 S2000 cars and some other GR N cars.
There are a few nice drivers that are confirmed, I will post the most important drivers... because the local drivers have good cars (S1600 and Top Gr N cars) but they aren't good enough to fight for a top position.
I will post the ones I think that could do something good on this event.
Foreigner Drivers
Bernd Casier - Peugeot 207 S2000
Marco Vagioli - Peugeot 207 S2000
Nicolas Vouilloz - Peugeot 207 S2000
E. G. Ojeda - Peugeot 207 S2000
Andrea Navarra - Fiat Punto S2000
Umberto Scandola - Fiat Punto S2000
Volkan Isik - Fiat Punto S2000
Corrado Fontana - Fiat Punto S2000
Pieter Tsjoen - Fiat Punto S2000
Michael Solowow - Fiat Punto S2000
Dani Solá - Honda Civic R3
Luca Betti - Honda Civic R3
Renato Travaglia - Lancer EVO IX
Portuguese Drivers
Bruno Magalhães - Peugeot 207 S2000
José Pedro Fontes - Fiat Punto S2000
Local Drivers
Vitor Sá - Fiat Punto S2000
Alexandre Camacho - Peugeot 206 S1600
Filipe Freitas - Renault Clio S1600
Bernardo Sousa - Lancer EVO IX
There is another drivers that are expected here, but I prefer to wait for the real confirmation, I don't appreciate to much expectation :)
If you know something about some drivers, please feel free to add the information.
I will try to update this thread every time it's possible, with useful information!

Yes this year I hope to see a great rally, with so many S2000 cars, S1600 and of course Top N4 cars. I have no ideia who can be the winner...
Paulo, I Think you can add in this list Tomek Czopik, VW Polo S2000.

Yes, Tom, Bruno could be one of the surprises of the rally. I think he will win the portuguese title without major problems, so maybe in Madeira he will not have a big pressure to get a good score for the championship. Peugeot Portugal will prepare this rally to the limit of perfection, Defeat Peugeot Spain, Peugeot Belgium and Fiat could be the great moment of glory of portuguese team!!. Let's wait to see if Bruno can keep the car on the road under a big pressure...

The organization is trying all to bring Giandomenico Basso and join with Andrea Navarra and Umberto Scandola.

No, if you live in Canarias I think the trip is not so expensive how you are thinking. Well, in that time you have a ferry from Las Palmas and you can bring also your car.
Every week the ferry arrives on sunday. You can stay here during a week and of this way you can see the rally.

Hi,
It depends what is cheap for you... :)
But, I can tell you that you can find some quality hotels around 40 / 45 € per day.
If you need some specific help, please send me a PM ;)

I wouldn't be so sure about Czopik and Polo S2000. It looks that people from Rene Georges sometimes are guessing what to repair in the car... and sometimes during repair they are damaging other parts. For example on Rally Poland they didn't put sparkplugs properly... Czopik is really mad at them :(

Bryan Bouffier has a deal with Polish Peugeot since Rally of Poland to run in 3 or 4 rallys in that country at least and the car should be the same that Janos Toth used in Ypres.

Hi, and welcome to the forum ;)
There is no Polish Peugeot.. The S2000 Bouffyer used in Poland Rally is the same as Janika used in Ypres and use in selected tarmac events in Hungary. The Peugeot is from TRT, an Hungarin Team.
It will be really difficult to see Bouffyer with this car in Madeira... There is rally in Hungary one week before RVM and one rally in Poland one week after RVM... so... :)
Let's wait and see...

It would be no problem, as Janika won't start in Hungary, maybe only one race at the end of the season. And the polish championship was a one-off, as much I know, so the car should be free at the time of RVM. :)

Freddy Loix is confirmed in the 2007 edition of Madeira Wine Rally.
The belgian driver, who will have Eddy Chevailler as co-driver, will speed on the madeiran roads driving a Fiat Punto Super2000, a car that Pieter Tsojen drove in Ypres Rally.
Nicknamed by the fans «Fast Freddy», Loix is, this way another important name joining a long list of very good participants who promise a fierce competition and lots of emiton for the 48th edition.

I feel sorry.. but I was right :(
Hevia won't be in Madeira... he even don't know why they (organization or the guy who wrote the article) announced him...
Every years is the same... so nothing strange... :s mokin:
I don't see many chances to have 18 S2000 cars in Madeira...
Without Hevia stay 14 drivers confirmed..
The other chances...2 of them are out of question... so...
Mabybe the guy from Canarias will be here...

Tom, I don't know the exactly reason... but.. year after year it's the same. :(
And even more, when only a little percentage of people had Internet in Madeira (at the end of 90's) they use to lie more than nowadays, and then, they use to say that the driver couldn't come because of some strange reason.
Before the race, we always have a big names, but for the real race we use to have a "normal" entry list...
Our organizers year after year try to pass the idea that Rally Vinho Madeira is the best rally of ERC, the best entry list, etc... and almost all the people believe them... just because they don't really know European Rallys.
Every invited drivers that come here, win some money (I suppose a lot of money) and they tell in the Interviews always the same... "Beautifully Island, fantastic atmophere, really nice rally, one of the best in the world... bla bla lba)" OK, I believe in that :s mokin:
I think it's time to face the truth... I have to agree that RVM is probably the best ERC/IRC rally, we have beautifully roads, a fantastic atmosphere, etc... But the truth is that in the last years, RVM never had the best entry list... Barum, 1000 Miglia, had the best entries of last years in ERC... and this year Sanremo will be the best IRC Rally.

Paulo, You can not compare ours entries with the rest of rallys in Europe, You has forgotten that we live in a island so far of central europe, how much its costs to bring a good foreigner driver here???, in the other way if you look the entry list of 1000 miglia or Barum what you see? good cars, good drivers because they have a very competitive national championships. What do you think about portuguese championship in this moment?. We had good moments of rally during all of this years, with the same of organizers, they had committed errors? of course they did. we are only 250.000 of inhabitants in the island, think on this, competing by a good place in the world of rallys, isn't easy, year, after year trying to keep the rally on the top. For me, sorry guys, Rali Vinho Madeira is the better rally of the world, with the better organization of the world and I would like to receive all of rally fans in the most beautiful island of the world to see our rally!!!

Maybe you are right, but I never liked him. I always liked Delecour and as you may remember a few years ago there was a great conflict between these 2 French drivers.
Delecour was vice-World Champion and Panizzi? He was competing for so many years, most of the time with the best car, but he has never achieved anything. He was competing in WRC for ten years and won only 7 rallies. And all of them were on his favourite surface (tarmac) and in the best car on the entry list (Pug 206 WRC). He has never achieved anything in a car other than Peugeot. The last time he won anything was 4 years ago.
Of course Panizzi is a good driver, but I have much more respect for drivers like Travaglia or Jean-Joseph, who can be fast in any car, no matter if it's a factory or private team.

He send me an SMS... "A Gr.N in the hands of Travi.. is like a mini WRC" :)
At the afternoon I will be at shakedown with 'Madeira'

I'm arriving right now from shakedown!
I have to say that I'm very impressed with Honda Civic R3...
They are both fast and very spectacular :)
The best I've seen it was last pass by Luca Betti... really impressive style, amazing!
Basso, Navarra, Magalhães and Ojeda were also very nice... as well as Czopik.. a nice surprise..

Yes I'm with Paulo seeing the shakedown and for me the stars of the day were Giandomenico Basso, Ojeda and Bernardo Sousa, and I'm really impressed with the performance of both Hondas!

Hmm, the belgians didn't have a very good shakedown, even slower than an S1600. Lets wait until friday, hope they will improve a lot.

I'm arriving from Service Park area... there are some cars there :)
i take some pics, bt unfortunately I forgot the cable to transfer the pics to the PC :(
I was talking with some drivers (most of them weren't there, I suppose they were lunching...) but nothing special... only a few words...
They were replacing shock absorbers in Travaglia's car and fixing some minor problem with brakes in Simon Jean Joseph car...
The most impressive from service park, is ABARTH Team...
Their trucks wow.... everything like a WRC Team... or even better ;)
It's strange, but it look's like all EVOS (19) in rally Vinho Madeira had problems in scruteneering :s
Only after the decision of clerk we will know it they are allowed to enter in the race...
I suppose they will decide that all EVOS can enter normally...

From official site:
Poor wheather is waiting for the drivers. There has been heavy rain on the hills.
With this wheather, all the teams are holding their decisions concerning the tyres.
At the Service Park, drivers like Fontana, Travaglia, Basso or Vouilloz are waiting to decide.
In general, the common idea in their declarations is to see what happens in the first stages and then choose the best way to go faster.
Also Navarra had electrical problems and could not start the engine in the parc ferme.

Magalhaes has engine problems. Vouilloz either. The conditions are very very bad, a lots of rain and fog, almost impossible to see the cars on TV during the live transmisson of SS3. Loix lost 1 minute due to problems, I don´t know the reason. Fontana made a spin on SS3
