Some cars have already made it onto the tracks:

1. Vuko Snr......1m.53.06s
2. J.Shell.........1m.54.89s

Had a 20 minute and managed a very similar time to J.Shell, high 1.54 :p

However, I still reackon that I can find a few seconds in the set up as I was running my Laguna Seca set-up with long gears.

Would love it if you guys would check your telemetry and let me know your slowest/fastest speeds at this track....

I think I'm in the 55s, but a 54 is definitely possible (If I can get the entrance to malmedy right)

Got the BOC car onto the track for half an hour - 1.52.47. I think there may be even a bit more speed in it once i muck around with the gearing.

I was eating an ice cream cone when I did mine. and my paddle shifter is broken so I had to steer with my knee while I shifted.

and my cat kept getting between me & the TV.

and my air conditioner is broken so the ice cream was dripping all over the place & I had to really keep up with it because I had my only suit on.

Well

For a start I have to use a normal control pad and I had the engine noise turned down so I could listen to MUSE rockin! and my air conditioner is at my brothers house and I had terrible wind due to eating too much beans on toast

But I ate my ice cream before I went racing :D (although it cost me £1.25 ($2.46) )

However I did some more laps with a default set-up with altered gearing and soft tyres and got a mid 1:24, so with suspension and downforce alterations 1:22's may be possible. :p

I started off with my Laguna Seca set up too. but I found the car to oversteer.

I put some more camber in the tires & it was better. surprised default set up worked so well for you! will have to try that!

When you guys adjust camber, do you feel an improvement?

Is it measurable in lap times, or does it apply only to the 'feel' of the car?

The top times at the beginning of Qualifying at Spa were:
1.BobZee.....1m.52.47
2.J.B...........1m.52.70
3.Vuko Snr...1m.53.06
4.Vuko Jnr....1m.53.38(unofficial)
5.J.Shell.......1m.54.48
6.tannat.......1m.55.70

Plenty of time left. I think 51's will be achievable??

I found nearly 2 seconds in a half hour practice last night. most of my speed came from downforce adjustments.

Are you running any downforce at all?
I'm at 50% front and rear (i.e. no downforce)

I think I'm at probably 184 for my top speed. Probably slower than 50....

I'm losing time at Malmedy and the bus stop chicane-absolutely messy in both areas...

Brown, Jon Brow
15th June 2007, 15:07
Yep, but I may increase it for the race as I couldn't do 10 laps without making an error.

Low ride height will increase top speed. Are you braking for Eu Rouge? Don't!!! Have you tried using manual gears to see if your top speed improves? Maybe I just brake a fraction later :\

I'm at .10 front and .15 rear for ride height...

Nope-flat out from la source until braking for Malmedy...

Are you flat through the sweepers (first right then left) before Stavelot?

How about Stavelot itself? It's a decreasing radius turn, I think. If I don't tap the brakes I go off there...

Something is wrong with my gmae disc. It pauses from time to time (rarely, thankfully) and the sound cuts out. No sound=no indication on when to shift :(

Surely you brake for Les Combes

I can't take the Fagnes flat but use a bit of handbrake at Stavelot.

Having rear ride height higher than the front increases drag. I have them equal.

I'm confusing Malmedy with Les Combes.
Handbrake is a good idea for Stavelot-I'll have a go..

Love the map of the track!!! All those names of corners.... Well done J.B you are going to make this Rd a challenge. The Vuko boys are going to make a proper assault on the track today. The reason for Vuko Jnr's "unofficial" time is that he has not opened up the International V8's on his profile - he has to use mine, therefore unless he beats my time we can't get another code & vice versa if he beats mine..... but it will work itself out in the end. Watch out for BobZee - he is the real danger at the moment. I've heard that KingSpeedy will make it to Spa - hope we get a good turn up.

On another matter - J.B came up with a good idea which we could use in future races - that the top qualifiers start at the rear, the mid-qualifiers start in the midfield & the bottom qualifiers start at the front of the grid. Comments!!!

I'm on an X Box with a wingpad

Like I said-I'm not horribly comfortable with Les Combes-feels a mess. But I increased ride height to .3 front and rear and didn't feel a dramatic difference.

Despite all the adjustments in this game, I don't feel there is a great deal of "real world" translation..

+ camber makes absolutely no sense in a racing car. I'm running -2.5 front and -1.2 rear for camber, fairly soft settings (.3) for suspension, and no front bar and .8 rear bar (can't stand understeer).

I've played a bit (say a lap or 2) with stiffer suspension settings, and it really mattered nothing, in terms of feel or lap time.

Brake bias is 60% rear and 40% front so we can easily handbrake around La Source

ahhhh yes, the sucky side of gloating when you do well-

that is, accepting the defeat when you don't do well.

I wouldn't say I'm "languishing" though, JB

but I'm sure not expeciting to get any qualifying points here

I think a sold mid-field effort would be just fine with me, considering the strong turn out we're expecting.

top fives are fun, but I know I can't expect them when we have a full field- YET :burnout:

good luck to you guys in the front & I'll enjoy watching the race from here :D

I run my suspension pretty soft tannat so you might not be that far off. I mean I'm not the fastest guy out there or anything, but soft susp can work!

so, has anyone tried to run 10 laps on one set of tires yet?

No! But I will eventually. I bet a very hard compound and some efficient driving is needed.

Did you go to the GP johnny? Which was better, Indy500 or Indianapolis GP?

I would like to point out that both were won by Brits :D

johnny shell
18th June 2007, 18:42
yeah the GP was a blast! I thought Dario was from Nashville though

I was cheering for Lewis. It's obvious he's destined for super greatness and it's cool to witness his rookie season.

The 500 and the GP are both awesome though.

the only race in Indy I don't go to is the nascar race.

what I like about the open wheelers is that

1) a pass means something because they don't happen all the time and
2) close racing is exciting because if the cars touch - BOOM! and
3) whether its a pack of indy cars going through the turns at 220 MPH or a McLaren Mercedes running all by itself around the road course, open wheel cars are just beautiful.

I've taking a real liking to touring cars thanks to toca though!

the f1 crowd is cool. Kentucky isn't exactly the most culturally diverse state in the US and I enjoy seeing people from all over world. I'd say 1/2 of the people at the GP are foreigners.

Of course the 500 is more 'competitive', but at the GP you get to blow air horns and wave flags!

Re: the camber issue - I heard that Codies got it wrong!! They mixed up - & + camber. This makes semse when you look at the game - the + gives you a range of up to +12.5 where as the - goes only to -2.5. Racing cars all use more than -2.5 camber. My times have improved since this disovery!

I started off the DTM season this year with that attitude. I just trying different things then suddenly one day I was finishing mid-pack now & then.

I always figured running last was better than just watching!

although there were races at the end of last season that I showed up for but ended up not even running... those V8 and DTM 110% races.

I would qualify last and the whole field would just pull away.

that was discouraging!

hey, tell Vuko the Junior thanks from me for leaving me in the top 5 until the last possible minute. it was encouragine while it lasted!

If Spackman put in a time he would have got -18s but no Q/T no handicap!

Hey Steve - could you have gotten a code or could you not meet the min speed?

Is Sloma going to race or is he just doing quali?

This might be a good chance for a victory for me, I didn't expect to get a 6 second break :D

yeah, this might be your big chance-

IF Sloma doesn't show up!

but I think he was planning on running the race... he just wasn't going to be online again until the weekend.

I could totally see you getting a podium here though Mr B.

Getting a podium at spa would have to be pretty special.

too bad we can't have a virtual champaign spraying - complete with trophey girls of course!

please, some of you tell me the AI has been giving you trouble at Spa.

I was doing a ten lap tire test last night and only made it to lap 8 before a scrap to regain the lead sent me off track.

I could stay ahead if I did perfect laps, but even with more downforce than I was using in qualifying, I was having trouble running a perfect race and lost the lead about 5 laps in.

I guess it'll do better once I learn the new braking points. with cold hard tires & a full fuel cell you just have to brake earlier it seems!

quick few laps practise..well..not quick really..struggling to get below the 2 minute mark on default settings..so..no idea how i'm going to gain close to 10 seconds a lap..

additional practice with race tires & fuel improves my times greatly.

I started off by adding more downforce, but by the end of testing I had backed the downforce down to less than I used in qualifying!

I might try using softer tires & see what happens. they would go off more at the end of course, but the advantage until then may make it worth while.

I sure wish I could get my DTM car to handle like the V8 car!

I love how I can steer it with the throttle - gonna run wide on corner exit? just feather the throttle a bit & the nose will tuck down & the front end will turn better.

by the corner exit I'm not even turning the wheel - maybe slightly counter steering it if anything! the ass end trying to pass up the front is what's making the car round the corner, not the steering.

ahhh, the feel of a nice rear wheel drive vehicle!

I still need to learn to drive my full potential each & every lap of course.....

I wish it was the other way round. Why don't you like the DTM cars? I find them so much more responsive than the V8's. The DTM cars feel more like a thoroughbred racing car, rather than a road car modified for racing.

Yup-DTMs much easier to drive, IMHO :D

Maybe it's because we use hand controllers. It might be different if we had steering wheels.

I just can't seem to get the balance quite right. could just be that the car is still "too fast" for me.

I like the acceleration, it just doesn't seem as smooth and predictable in the corners or something as the V8 cars do.

plus I just like underpowered cars because you have to work them more, and because they slide around better.

we'll see how the upcoming round goes!

it is true that some of what I don't like about the car is based on feedback I get through the steering wheel though! the car always "feels" so on edge. it's scarey! lol

I thought that I will finish this race, but ninth turn on second (and probably third) lap killed me. When I saw other cars on mini map (on Les Combes and Malmedy), game slowed down, and I woke up on the band, grass or sand  .
My best first lap was 1:55.89 on 0.69 tyres hardness.

It was fun while it lasted, but i just cant race with 20 ai cars, my computer cant handle it even with everything on low or off.

Its like playing on an overseas server where there's someone behind you and all of a sudden there in front within a split seccond and your eating grass.

I'll be back when i get another computer. (a wheel might help to ;) )
Cheers guys.

Sorry for late results but my internet server was down all day yesterday! Rd 6 produced the closest racing so far this year with the top 5 only separated by 5secs. This was even more incredible when you consider the nature of the track at Spa!
Here is how they finished the 10 lapper:
1.Vuko Snr.....19m.03.87........30pts
2.BobZee.......19m.04.19........26pts
3.dcr22B........19m.05s*.........24pts
4.Vuko Jnr......19m.06s...........22pts
5.J.B.............19m.08s*..........20pts
6.J.Shell.........19m.14s*.........18pts
7.tannat.........19m.30s*.........16pts
8.real_ill..........19m.58s...........14pts
*denotes handicapped time.
Fastest Laps: 1. BobZee...1m.53.13 2.Vuko Snr...1m.53.53 3.Vuko Jnr...1m.53.65 4.J.B...1m.54.36 5.J.Shell...1m.54.85

What a close finish! Only .32s separating the Commodore of Vuko Snr & Ford of BobZee. The big surprise being dcr22B, with the aid of a generous handicap slipping into 3rd place only 2secs behind the leader. I'm sure the handicapper won't be so kind next time!! I'l be back with an update of the overall standings later.

4.J.B...............128pts
5.dcr22B..........104pts
6.J.Shell...........75pts
7.real_ill...........62pts
8.tannat...........50pts
9.A.Sloma.........47pts
10.Spackman......6pts

5 seconds was achievable if I had a another run. My 1st 3 or 4 laps were over a seconds slower than my fastest lap. So if I was more consistent I could have got a podium. :(

shouldn't you modify your sig JB? to say "except in open wheelers"? aka FPA cars????

Nice one, if the truth be told, I only had 20 minutes to submit my qualifying time and I knew it was nowhere near representative of my pace but to come so close to a win did indeed surprise me. Guess I'm screwed for Gold Coast so!
