View Full Version : Which brand has the worst drivers?

One of the perennial jokes that does the rounds in this wide brown land is that Volvos are "inside-out echidnae" because the Pricks are on the inside, but driving through Sydney's traffic every day for quite sometime I happen to think that the worst drivers are in Toyotas.
Corolla drivers buy their cars for their reliability rather than performance and it seems as though most of them drive with their brains in neutral. I've noticed that for whatever reason, their minds just aren't in the game and on average Corollas will weave back and forth in their lane a lot more, as though car control were non-existant.
Corolla is a Latin word which means can't drive
If they're driving Camry's they leave this massive gap in front of them and are so oblivious to the world around them that they change lanes without warning and without regard for the traffic that they haven't seen.
Camrys are bigger cars and just appear more lopey and ungainly.
Camry is a Latin word which means can't drive and can't see
Land Cruisers share all common faults of Corollas and Camry except that because when new they're $80,000 motor cars, in city traffic they take up even more space, make vision impossible and often have arrogance thrown in there as well.
Land Cruiser is a Latin phrase which means can't drive and can't see and am also arrogant
Celica and Supra drivers unlike their Land Cruiser counterparts can be seen around but because they're "Performance" cars will often drive into spaces thar previously didn't exist and because if you hit someone from behind it's your fault, they cut people off almost safe in the knowledge that any insurance claim will result in another $5000 being spent on even more ridiculous body-kit and garish paintwork and yet somehow still make them look totally ****house.
Celica and Supra are two Latin words which mean can't drive and can't see as well as flaunting it
My gripe is mainly with Toyota drivers, but I'd like to hear about drivers of other car brands whom we should avoid, and hopefully draw up a composit picture to find out who really are the worst in the world... before we accuse Volvo drivers of being old men in hats.
Certainly in the UK, BMW drivers have a very bad reputation, probably because they are largely driven by males in their early 30's who think because they have a relatively powerful and expensive car that they can do what they want and everyone should get out of their way.
They also tend to undo their seatbelts before they come to a complete stop, instead using my rear bumper as a brake :mark:

It's usually as Mark says 30 something in cars that are a bit more expensive. Jag S types, BMW's and Audi's and so on which are the main culprits
Here in Denmark, Audi and BWM because they are driven by rich people who buy these cars only because they got plenty of money :p :

My Dad's mate's next door neighbours brother, who once parked next to a BMW dealerships told me that it's a small known fact but BMW UK have a qualifying questionnaire, which you have to achieve 90% or greater before you are allowed to own one of their cars from new. Sadly nobody has ever been allowed to retrieve a copy of it from a dealership and the coffee they serve you has memory wiping drugs in it but a couple of people he knows have told him some of the questions after spilling their coffees
1. You're travelling at 71mph on a 3 lane motorway, which lane should you be in?
a) The left lane unless I'm overtaking a slower moving vehicle.
b) The middle lane
c) Any bloody lane I like, I own the road.
2. You're approaching a roundabout with four exits, you wish to take the fourth exit, which lane should you be in?
a) The right-hand lane with my right indicator flashing.
b) Whichever one has the least traffic
c) Straddling both lanes, I own the bloody road
3. Again with the roundabout mentioned in question two, explain the correct use of indicators?
a) Right-hand indicator flashing whilst stationary, continuing whilst moving around the roundabout until past the the exit before the one I wish to take then switching to the left-hand indicator.
b) Left-hand indicator flashing all the way around so that people think I'm going to turn off and when they pull out in front of me I can give them the bird whilst displaying my two-tone executive horn to good effect.
c) What are indicators?
4. Whilst driving to the office you realise that you left you copy of <insert daily newspaper here> on the breakfast table. Suddenly you see a newsagents ahead, do you?
a) Find a suitable parking space, allowing other traffic to pass safely before manoeuvring into it?
b) Spot a gap you couldn't park a bike in, slam on you brakes and proceed to block the highway with your sixteen in-out manoeuvres before giving up?
c) Park anywhere and anyway you want, so long as you switch you hazard lights on, because you own the bloody road?
5. On approaching a busy T junction wish to turn left, do you?
a) Stop at the give way line, indicating left and wait for a suitable gap to appear in the traffic before pulling out?
b) Stop at the give way line briefly, then pull out into a gap only marginally longer than you car, whilst giving a two-fingered salute to the drive behind you?
c) Slow slightly at the junction and then just pull out. It doesn't matter that the car/truck/bus ends up in a ditch whilst trying to avoid me because I own the bloody road.
Obviously there are more questions, another fifteen so I'm told, but that's all anyone can remember so far, I'll update you with more if I get to hear of anymore. You know it's true, it's from my Dad ;)

i saw a nice piece in this months Evo in the review of the new BMW 330i touring, about a feature which has an alarm or a vibration when you strayed across lanes on the motorway, stating that it was disabled when the indicators were used, but that most BMW owners would probably never find this out!

I'd say Subaru Imprezza WRX owners.
Everytime I see one they undertaking and slicing through rush/hour traffic and trying to race supersport/superbikes.
Over the weekend I read that a middle-aged school headmaster branded as 'boy racer' because he thought he could manage wet conditions in his WRC replica Scooby and crashed into a Ford Fiesta and paralysing the driver.

Well... I'm not sure about worst drivers, but Merc drivers are crap at parking as far as I can see. I don't think I've ever come across one that's parked properly!

I'm going to stand up for the BMW owner for once (but only once!) as recently I've had several follow me and not one's tailgated.
Over the years they've almost always been the worst offenders for tailgating, pulling out/off without warning or space, speeding past horses/pushbikes/everything else doing the speed limit and of course the BMW owner is dreadful at parking .... they more or less abandon a vehicle. But as I say just of late I've had not a hairy moment near a Beemer. I savour the feeling. I doubt it'll last :dozey:
Those big crewcab pick-ups are getting a reputation for being driven by utter planks. They could be the new BMW driver.

I have the following to say about Ford drivers:
White Transit vans are so coloured and unmarked so that there's no-one to complain to, when for the 50th time that day, they steal your braking space at a set of lights. Often they'll move just at the last minute without indicating and because they're often used for courier work, will sit right up your tuckus doing 85 in a 60 zone. That is if they don't knock over pedestrians like nine-pins in the high street doing 80 in 50 zones.
Transit is Latin for speed limits are only a suggestion
Fiesta drivers come in two main species and both usually female.
Either it's their first car that daddy's bought for them in which case they'll constantly be on their mobile phone trying to execute turns across traffic with one hand holding the phone pressed against their ear while the other hangs out the window holding a Silk Cut. OR - They're your slightly older lady who is still holding a Silk Cut out of the window, but the inside if the car is so filled up with cigarette smoke that any pollution laws seem irrelevant.
Both of these can be found with collections of plush Disney toys 14 deep on the rear parcel shelf that totally obstruct their rear view. I mean who can see what's behind you when Pooh is in the way.
Fiesta is actually Spanish for party... which means one's mind is not on the road
Ford Falcons are bought by either middle aged men with too many kids, older men who want to relive the dreams that they could have been a motor racer or by boy racers in daddy's ex-car that rev the crap out of them. In all cases a Falcon is esentially a big fat lunky weapon on the road to be treated with disdain. Although in the hands of professionals at Bathurst, they can move through 50 cars at well over 200km/h, in traffic you don't have a pit crew to help you out if you bingle the car.
A Falcon is a bird of pray. Yes Pray... that you don't get smacked up the arse by the Zero times World Champion behind you.

Mercedes and BMW around here sem to think they own the road and they are allowed to use their own set of rules.
SUV drivers feel so powerful they don't bother to drive they just move randomly along the streets and roads.
Anyone who is stupid enough to buy a French car, usually drives like he/she has their head stuck into the trunk

1.5,1.6 VTi, are you talking civics? Mine is a black Type R and to be honest i dont think boy racers would be in the financial position to be able to run one, i certainly would'nt have when i was 18.

Going back on topic, when I'm riding Volvo estates scare the hell out of me. They genuinely seem to be cooped up in a world of their own thinking they're invincible and change lanes at will in the knowledge they can barge any poor sod already in that lane off the road.
When I'm driving, its the odd Japanese imports that I find are badly driven. Not the ultrarare Skylines and Impreza special editions but the ones that already exist here with a different badge, like Nissan March/Micras or the Toyota Previa/Estimas that seem to infest the towns. I can't understand why people would bother to import them if they're pretty much identical to British models anyway.

I've noticed a lot of poorly-driven Vauxhall Astras round here lately. They seem to be the sales rep's car of choice at the moment.
Those evil Volvo XC90(?) 4x4 things used to scare the wits out of me when I was out in my Wolseley - massive great mobile walls!

I think the more assist your car comes with, the worse of a driver it makes you. A few of my friends have E36 M3s, and they think they are all hot **** with their stability control, and whatever. Gotta love being able to get on the brakes mid corner and not eat ****.
