On thursday its time for the 54th Rally Acropolis so why not start the thread now.

I see some interesting drivers in the A8 class, like last year, but now we'll see Aava, Wilks, Ostbeg and Al Qassimi (who I have no idea of who he is).
Havent followed this rally so much before, but this year could be very good thinking of how the overall standings look like at the moment before the summer break.
Also noticed that is been five different winners last five years in this rally.

I tried gather some useful links for this rally, if you got anymore please post.

Rally Greece official site (http://www.acropolisrally.gr/en/)

WRC Split times (http://www.zone.ee/wrcmasters/) (not sure if it will still work this round?)

So, who will replace Carlsoon in the OMV Kronos Xsara, and will Al Qassimi finally show up ? And will Duval indeed drive the raly ?

I dont think there will be a replacer for Carlsson in this rally.
As I understood Kronos will pay for Carlssons starting fee but dont need to have another driver in this rally.
Nice to see Duval again, even though theres a high risk he crash or if not I dont think he will be any competetive in the Fabia :(

Mads Østberg will not compete in Acropolis.. He will replace it with a asphalt rally later in the season. The Acropolis is too much of a car breaker is the reason

It's a shame these guys can't get budgets together. It's tantalising to see them on the entry list then for them to never appear. I hope to see Ostberg in Ireland.

Well this is a matter for which lots of discussions took place in Greece. I know for certain that many fans will miss traditional stages like Elateia, Voxites etc. But from the other side the infrastructure of the hospitality of the whole event is much better in the Attica area.

Due to heavy rains the last 3 days I think that many stages will be muddy. Also the spectators routes leading to the SS may have probs. We ll see.

I'd like some confirmations about crew identities.

Does anyone know real name for "Vas", co-driver at #76?
Also, I wonder if his driver Panayiotis Zissis is the same fellow whom with "Vas" drove in 2006 under alias "Panos"?

Urmo Aava crashed his Lancer WRC on Monday afternoon and the front right took the blow. The bad thing is that the roll cage is damaged and it can not be repaired in time, but MMSP has acted like professionals and will bring a new car(the same car Toni was supposed to drive here and drove in Italy) for him and it will arrive midday of Thursday and Aava will start the rally.

I wanted to propose for foreign and domestic forum members who will be attending the rally if you want to meet up in the service park on Saturday or Sunday.
Anyway whoever needs any info or help please feel free to contact. Send me a pm and I will send my contact phone.

Unfortunately for me, I will be able to go to attend the stages from Saturday since Thursday and Friday I have work issues which will keep me away!http://img117.exs.cx/img117/6721/o4fsad.gif

Petter Solberg sets the fastest time in this morning shakedown, with time of 1:42.7. Second was Jari Matti Latvala with time 1:43.3 and Henning Solberg third just 0.2 sec slower. The shakedown was a typical example of the Acropolis stages, with a lot of heat and dust.

1 LOEB Sebastien / ELENA Daniel
“We had a problem with the clutch but fixed it. We also made some changes in the car. No problems.”

2 SORDO Daniel / MARTI Marc
“The car is exactly the same as in Sardinia-we only made some small changes to the suspension.”

3 GRONHOLM Marcus / RAUTIAINEN Timo
“We made small changes in the car. Everything is ok. About the rally, the roads are in good condition. It was muddy in the recce, but I think it will be dry tomorrow. In S.S. Agia Sotira, we want to avoid punctures.”

4 HIRVONEN Mikko / LEHTINEN Jarmo
“Everything is ok, no problem. It’s going to be a big fight and I’ll try to win, so I’ll push hard.”

5 STOHL Manfred / Ms MINOR Ilka
“It’s a very hard race for the cars and the tires. We hope the weather to be like today.”

7 SOLBERG Petter / MILLS Philip
“The car will be almost the same with the last race. Only some very small changes, small details all the time, no big changes.”

8 ATKINSON Chris / PREVOT Stephane
“We’ve made some changes in the suspension, everything ok.”

9 LATVALA Jari Matti / ANTTILA Miika
“Now we have a different set up, we adjust higher the front of the car. We had also a sensor failure.”

10 SOLBERG Henning / MENKERUD Cato
“The shakedown was ok. It was a good stage and I am satisfied with my time. It’s a long weekend.”

Such talk of penalties!

I thought the only reason Carlsson got penalized was because he was entered as part of an M2 team - for the whole season. Can't see a reason McShea would be penalized.

ST205GT4

Atko lost 2.3 secs in 3.2kms. Not a very auspicious start. Extrapolate that for the rest of the rally and you're very uncompetitive. And that's assuming no mechanicals or off road incidents.

Come on Atko, you need a decent result mate!

Have to admit I'm starting to fear for Chris's chances of continuing with Subaru unless he starts pulling some results.

PWRC drivers must nominate their rallies beforehand and missing one is a place for penalty as per rules. Same goes for JWRC drivers and M1/M2 teams. All championships.

Oh, that was really just a joke, to see if I could rise the interest and average posts per minute, but it seems that the interest for the WRC is sunken under ground level now, and I don't blame it. Bring back the golden days of the 90's or even the good start of the 21st century with 2000 and 2001. That was the two last good years of the WRC IMO. In 2001 there were won rallies by five different manufactors, last year only two. It says it all.

The joke was over Loeb ;) I guess Duval's times aren't good enough to take part in the split system :p :

haha, that dont make sense, according to my calculates hes usually faster then Kopecky, Wilson and Perez Companc.
I stick to animerally's answer, they probably dont want to waste a GPS in a car that will crash and probably destroy the GPS.

Yeah, maybe particuraly the TOP 3 because when they run the stage in the morning, co-drivers modify the pace notes, if the stage is repeated later, then the drivers are flying and the target is to reduce the chrono as much as possible and in that time the road is clean no sweeping effect!!!

..... Atkinson have been very good. Why?

"We had an interesting service early this morning because after last night's stage I noticed a problem with the gearchange," said Hirvonen. "The team replaced the hydraulic gearchange system in just 10 minutes before we left this morning, a job that we would normally allow 25 minutes for. It was a fantastic effort but stressful for me watching to see if they could do it in time. I'm pleased with the morning. The roads were slippery but they should be better this afternoon."

Grönholm echoed his colleague's views: "It wasn't easy being first on the road because there was plenty of slippery loose gravel," he said. "It was hard to get good grip and only the first stage this morning, when I was fastest, wasn't affected. In those conditions I couldn't have done any more than I have done. I will take a harder tyre this afternoon when the roads will be cleaner and the temperatures higher."
