Anyone else done this? get your face on the red bull car at the British GP.
RED BULL RACES FACES FOR CHARITY
Red Bull has today announced its newest innovation - a fan car with a difference. For the first time, people, instead of corporations will dominate the livery of an F1 car at the British Grand Prix giving fans the ultimate opportunity to support drivers David Coulthard and Mark Webber whilst raising $1million for charity.
Instead of the regular red and blue team colours, for one race only the Red Bull Racing RB3 will be lining up on the grid in Silverstone displaying brand new bodywork, one that is made up of the faces of more than 50,000 race fans.
From midday today, fans will be able to visit http://www.redbullf1.com and upload a portrait of themselves, their mates, a family member or another loved one. By using the highly interactive website which features a rotating 3D models of the RB3, fans can also choose whether they appear on Coulthard or Webber’s car and where their picture goes - and even save a space for a friend next to them.
It costs £10 to upload a picture to become a part of the historical car and all money raised will be donated to Wings for Life - a charity which supports those affected by spinal cord injuries.
Driver David Coulthard said: “Winning the British Grand Prix is something I’ll never forget so I always look forward to going back to Silverstone. Of course, it’s where I get the most support from my fans so this year, having them literally on the car with me is a nice way for me to pay them back for their support over the years.
“I’ve always been impressed with Wings for Life and its work in trying to find a cure for spinal injuries so it’s great to be able to do something to help.”
Driver Mark Webber says: “They say your biggest rival is your team mate, so now David and I have got an extra battle between us to see who can get the most faces on our cars. I promise that whoever signs up will guarantee their photo a very exciting ride round Silverstone!”
Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing Team Principal says “Through the support of passionate F1 fans, we are aiming to raise over $1million for Wings for Life which will really make a difference to the charity’s goal of curing spinal cord injuries.
“On the website, fans can also leave messages, invite friends to join them or perhaps dedicate a space, so we are trying to create a community literally on the body of our car.”

posted at the same time as me.
yep i've done it. on DC's car. drivers left by the cockpit.
Well, it isn’t an idea, but more of a copy of an idea. But surly even an old joke is new for a new born. And then again, maybe Honda is not the first after all.

I uploaded my picture after I paid for 2 spots. I'm perched on the side pod, but I didn't get any opportunity to upload the second picture. I did put a different e-mail address for the other person, so maybe they have to do it themselves. :s
Another ugly livery to go with the Honda's dream! :s

I think that's a nice little idea really... lets the fans have a bit of fun whilst raising money for charity and it shows this team is getting good publicity which I'm sure they'll welcome. I like it... bit cheesy but still :)
At least this livery is going to a cause that can be asertianed though. Did anyone see James Allems article about the honda livery that came out on March, he and I dont the only obe down the paddock believs that honda only chose that livery due to no sponsers

Not really. First you will be part of history (with you picture on an F1 car) and second, it's charity, helping those with spinal cord injuries.
Since when is this kind of charity, a silly idea?
It's a far better cause than showing corporate logos and slogans, in my book.

Seeing the picture is not the point. £10 donated to charity is the point.
Silly idea? I think its ingeniuis to be honest, and its a good way of encouraging peoiple to gid into thier pockets to give money to chairty. Think the money that is raised is going to go for such a good cause. N you have to think that Red Bull dont rely on sponsors for the F1 effort, instead giving the space to the whole Red Bull company. Thus they are giving up alot as well

why do you need redbull to give you this incentive before you give to charity?
Do you really think Redbull would be doing this, if it was'nt going to sell more drinks.
It corporate clap trap that you are all falling for.

It will be 15 years since my dad broke his neck next month. 99.9% of the time you are left instantly paralysed with the fracture he had. Although he was airlifted to the Midlands Specialist Spianal Unit in Oswestry, he happened to be part of the 0.01% that don't end up being paralysed. We've sinse invaded and walked round the track at Spa and Monza.
Stuart you really have no clue at all. Yeah Red Bull will get a lot of media coverage for what they are doing, but that money will go to help alot of people. My family ended up being extremely fortunate, other's don't get that lucky. I know I wont see my picture on the car but its £20.00 well spent in my eyes.
Oh and I've never bought a can of Red Bull in my life!

All i am trying to say is that I would rather people give money to charity as a kind gesture rather than Red Bull offering something in exchange for the donation.
As a result of this I have donated money to this cause, today, direct to the charity and without wanting or getting anything in return.

"Stuart you really have no clue at all"
That statement from you contravienes a personal attack.
Its my opinon of the whole fiasco and you really have no right to express such a ignorant genaralisation about me.
Mods, can we establish this today once and for all:
To say that someone doesn't have a clue what they are talking about does not construe a personal attack, and should be classified as criticism.
While I agree with everything Arrows mentioned in that other topic about personal attacks, I see the danger of becoming too "politically correct" here. There should be room for criticism.

Stuart, I don't think I made a personal attack to you at all. I was merely trying to point out that you dont know what the families of people with spinal injuries go through. There was no ignorant generalisation about you becuase untill you've experienced it, and I hope you dont, you wont ever have a clue about whats its like. Its not nice at all, but fair play to you for giving to the charity anyway. If only a small dontation, it could make a difference.
The fact that Red Bull are trying to make a difference to the people affected now and those that may be affected in the future is a great thing. They are a huge corporate voice that can bring the issue to the forefront in a global way that me or you as ordinary people on the street cant.
I only hope more people from these forums will get involved. :)

I'm in. I too had a family member paralysed due to a spinal injury so put my face on the car in their memory.
As for being a publicity stunt for RB I have to disagree to some extent. The main beneficiary of this publicity is the charity itself as it will be them that gets a mention (and a first mention at that) as well as RB (who gets mentioned every race).
Stuartf12007 - any charitable donation is credit worthy, it is a shame that your own pride prevented you from being part of this. Either that or your pug ugly (that's a joke by the way before you throw more toys out of your pram)

Mods, can we establish this today once and for all.
It has already been established.
If you see a post that you consider is a personal comment/attack then report it. Temping though it might be, do not respond to it in the thread.
Why we should need to go over this again, particularly in a thread which is about contributing to charity, makes me dispair
