The problem is Safety Fuel tanks are not legally allowed in Japanese registered cars (however there are work-arounds ;-).

Trivia Point: There are two father and son families competing as drivers. The Katsutas and the Arais. IIRC, last year they were also, however Katsuta Senior was in the National Event.

Im checking forecast like every day now and it didn't change too much in last 5 days. Still a lot of rain. This won't change. Really wet Friday on rally Japan is coming!

I can tell you that I almost could not recognize some stages from last year. Many sections are sooooo different.. the amount of leaves, needles... all kind of dirt on the stages is amazing, hopefully no brushing :)It will be much more difficult event this year. If half of the field can survive first day without any incident, I would be surprised :)
*note: last year Ogier puncture, Evans went wide and hit something got puncture, Rovanpera hit the mountain heavily and broke wheel, Breen crashed, Taka had major incident with bank (run up of very steep bank without any major consequences). Kaijto hit wall after tunnel and retired (tunnel is now asphalt :)), Sordo burned down his car, last day heavy rain during last two stages.. and the amount of fans queueing for autographs was amazing! This is really nice rally :)

Yees. I saw some footage from recce on Thierry's Instagram, road full covered by leaves! Especially first stage of the rally seems to be really demanding

This is further evidence that Colin Clark is the best WRC interviewer and if WRC wants to grow they should integrate his recce/morning/midday interviews. The rapport and banter he has with the drivers is great and creates a nice feeling for fans to know the crews. It's also entartaining enough to follow the whole thing. I criticize him for his "driver ratings" and George Donaldson did as well, even himself admitted he does it to create talking points. The man is not a journalist but this kind of interviews are pure gold and the WRC are complete idiots to ignore this.

The news about Lappis part season makes me think he will be a part timer for another year as Suninen doesn't make sense in that role alongside Lappi.

I think in the beginning of the broadcast they gave us pictures from the very early que up. Not much spectators on the grandstands then. But when competition started it was certainly more crowded.

Looking at the times, it seems to be so awful that it really was a lottery and the times are hardly representative. Katsuta is decent, but not 4s a km quicker than Rovanperä, not even for a quarter of a stage.

The same can be seen in circuit racing with crazy rain sometimes, drivers which are usually within a tenth or so of each other lap seconds apart.

Is that the rally or the state of the sport? I'm sorry but there has been like million rainy events before. Some of us do remember even Loeb driving a night stage in Wales without lights. If there are messy conditions just drive to finish. You may get a minute on every stage but that's how it is. It's not like there is half a meter of snow on stage so that it's not physically possible to pass. You can pass a stage like this and if you can't do it flat out just don't do it flat out.

Anyway Mikklesen seems to be superconfident from the footage we got.

It's caused by a lack of fresh outside air fed to the windscreen & the lack somewhere to let the damp inside air out.

Condensation on any surface is caused by the temperature of that surface being below the dew-point of the air in contact with it. Dew point is nothing to do with the temperature of the air, it's entirely due to the partial pressure of the water vapour in the air. The air inside the car has a higher dew-point than the outside air because there are two people breathing and sweating inside. All you need to do is to keep replacing the inside air with outside air
