It is a joke?

- Peugeot Rally Cup Iberica there instead WRC leg,
- Itinerary only after entries closed,
- ERC rally max 30 entries (PCRI included).

The ERC Rally RACC Catalunya - Costa Daurada will be run concurrently with the WRC Rally RACC Catalunya - Rally de Espaņa. You need to read both sets of regulations to get the full picture, but if the organisers are expecting a large entry for the WRC rally then it will make sense to them to restrict the numbers for the ERC rally. They may also have to make some adjustments to the itinerary details of the ERC event depending on how many entries they get for the WRC event, for example the start time of the first car. I have seen similar requirements many times in the UK when national rallies have used part of the itinerary of a larger international rally.

Are all ERC titles sewn up already? ERC Catalunya is little more than a box ticking exercise anyway, season over to all intents and purposes.

ERC champion is sure, ERC3 champion is sure, ERC4 Junior champion is sure, Clio Trophy champion is sure, Michelin Talent Factory is sure too. So only open is title in ERC4 and ERC Open. And for sure fights for second and third place.

WRC Catalonia has 67 entries, 10 from Spain.

WRC has become too expensive for most privateers to spend 50% of their yearly budget on 1 single rally.
Just the fuel and tyre budlet kills them off.

(as in, where did that come from?)

Smallest ERC event entry ever?

Smallest ERC event entry ever?
That depends on how you count the entries!
In the 1990's the Manx International would have had far fewer ERC entries than that (it was a Coefficient 20 round but never got more than a handful handful of European Championship entries) but would have had over 100 entires in total made up of British, Irish Tarmac and West Euro Cup Championship contenders plus others.

It always was (and still is) mixture of ERC regulars, ERC guests and ERC locals. In the past (from what I remember), everybody was starting in the ERC event in the main field. Only later started national classes, which are not counted into international field. And for last years there are also registrations, so you can count all cars in international field or all registered cars. But for sure, if the entry will be around 20, it will be the poorest entry list during last many, many years.

An embarrassing way for the new promoter to end their first season in charge.

Catalunya as a stand alone ERC round would be good.. as an afterthought/add on to a WRC event, no..

Yeah what a great promoter...

I see the ERC driver Nil Solans has switched to the WRC2 side in Catalunya...

You have to ask, is it even worth the potential disruption to the WRC rally, to cram such a small extra 'event' into the gaps in the itinerary?

Granted, it's a very safe option in terms of organisation, spectator safety etc., but 21 cars is pretty embarrassing.

Even copying the old JWRC / 208 Iberica Cup format of having ERC crews part of the main event, but taking the ERC event 'result' at the end of the second leg would have been better than this.

There is a problem that there are different rules in WRC and in ERC (and of course in national championships), so WRC and ERC crews cannot go together, must be in separate field. For me, running ERC as a part of WRC it is complete nonsense which doesnt help to anything. From my point of view, it should be better not to have 8th round than this comedy.

It is not so big surprise. He had partners and agreements for start in Catalunya ready before ERC was announced. As he has no chance for title, it has no sense to switch back to ERC, which will be in complete shadow of WRC event and nobody will take care about it...

Not a surprise at all but a further indictment of the ERC event here.

He crashed in testing yesterday and is out of the rally now anyway. :(

He's in hospital but still smiling...

Is anyone actually following this?

PLuto
21st October 2022, 19:16
Yes, me. I am trying to manage results and informations on Rally-base, I am communicating with competitors and their teams to help them (and dig info from them) like usually. But in basic, as whole ERC is in complete shadow (look what is written in info updates after first leg - https://www.fiaerc.com/erc/wrcplus/live-updates/), it is not so big surprise that nobody "normal" follows it...

There is one video on ERC’s Youtube about Catalunya, lol.

Next year, must try harder.

Ok, so now they have tested to run WRC and ERC on the same event.
That did not work.

Not even for petrolheads like many of us here, so for sure not for Average Jo.
Not sure if they split the Live staff into two, i never even checked.

ERC teams does not deserve to be treated that way!!

There were no live (except power stage). There were no quotes from drivers. There were no live informations about what is happening. Only few pictures and some articles about nothing...

Surprise surprise, first two places in 2022 ERC go to Spanish drivers. And none of them is called Solans ;)
