You can't help but wonder how much pace is missing from the Fiesta with it's current driver line-up. Fourmaux's pace had me wondering what Tanak or Evans, for a start, would wring out of that machine.

Not a good rally from him at the moment (it is the risk of having a steady pace during 4 or 5 rounds in a row, difficult to find again the good rythm) but the situation is not bad for him at the moment if Neuville continues like that and even if Sordo takes him the 3rd place. Would loss less than 10 points to Evans which would be clearly acceptable in his situation.

Real dilemma for Evans and Toyota. Does he settle for 2nd and make the Manufacturers title safe or push for the win and possibly open up to the risk of Hyundai netting a 1-2 and then the Manufacturer’s title becomes a big fight on the final round. Also a win here for Evans would set up the chance for the driver’s title on the final round and winning it that way against Seb this year would be possibly more of a coup than winning it next year once Seb has dropped out? I guess the decision will become clear by the end of today’s leg.

It begins to become quite clear in each category.

Pretty much set in RC1 with Neuville 1st, Evans 2nd, Ogier 3rd and Sordo 4th (except if Ogier wakes up late tomorrow as today :D ). Ogier will probably begin Monza with a 20-point lead or even more and the win-tiebreaker for him so probably zero-risk approach and the 200th French WRC win is probably not for 2021.

In RC2, close fight between Camilli and Gryazin for the class win.
But in WRC2, without issue, the positions are set and if it stays like this, Mikkelsen will be champion tomorrow whatever are the results of the Power Stage.
And in WRC3, Lindholm is dominating but Kajto gets closer from Lopez in the last stage (important for Kajto to take this 2nd place because if not, he might be forced to win in Monza according to the results of tomorrow power stage).

In JWRC, Joona gets closer from Pajari with the latter’s puncture but Pajari takes back some time in the last stage. If Pajari wins, he is champion. If Pajari is 2nd, Armstrong (if he comes back tomorrow) may be champion depending on how much stages he wins tomorrow (at very least 2 needed).

Ogier:
"Better late than never! It was a tough first half of the rally for us. We have been working a lot on the car and now I am starting to feel better. I have never changed so much on a car during a rally, but at least we have finally found better pace."

I think that after the VW years it seems that often he finds it difficult to get a setup which suits him from the beginning of the rally.
At almost all rallies he needs to make some changes to feel more comfortable and especially in Finland and Spain he got it totally wrong.
Only after many setup changes, in both rallies, he finally had a good setup and pace at Saturday's 2nd loop, which is not enough.
He is the only from the top 4, who despite the dirt at the afternoon loop, improved his times from the morning. Of course he was the fastest.

Really bad time by Ogier in the Mickey Mouse stage and Sordo is again a threat, really surprising.
Let’s see what Ogier will do tomorrow morning against Sordo; Ogier may not push like hell because Neuville is still 1st (so Evans cannot take big points at the moment) and he could lose a lot with a mistake but it is a risky approach if Neuville has an issue, whereas Sordo has absolutely nothing to lose. At least, it gives some interest again to RC1 tomorrow.

I understand your point, you expect more from him, I agree.
But he was not hammered by all his teammates for the last 4 rallies.
In some of them he was ahead of one or of the other teammate.
In Greece he did a pretty good job compared to Evans in terms of stage times, but Kalle was on another level, of speed-risk.
So its performance at the last rallies I think is a combination of, conservative approach for the title, bad setup choices and maybe he is getting old...

It's a shame tomorrow is the last day (that only consists of 50km), would love to see another Rally (ehm Wales GB) in the beginning of December or to have Monza a week earlier and then at the end of November have a classic Wales rally with rain, mud and tears. That would be the way to finish the season IMHO and to let these awesome beasts bow out of this sport.

I kind of agree with that but winning the championship would be a pretty good way to end his career I think?

In a way I’d rather have seen him put a full stop to his WRC career after this year and not do the partial programme at all. Best to go out on a high than fizzle out like Loeb, Schumacher, Rossi..

Loeb did do a (really) partial season in 2013, even managed to win Monte-Carlo & Argentina with the aging DS3, compared to the back then all new Polo R. So even if he does a partial season won't be the worst thing, I hope anyhow.

This could've been class for the championship if Evans just managed to keep up with Thierry and was still in the fight for a win today. It's these moments where championships can turn, but even if Ogier finishes 4th, a 2nd place for Evans isn't really enough. Feels like a missed opportunity for Evans, especially yesterday with a few setup issues and himself not driving well when he needed to perform.

Not a good rally from him but still a good operation for Ogier
Needs 4th overall with 5th in PS or even 3rd overall in Monza (5th overall with 3rd in PS also works) even if Evans made a 30-point rally there as he has the tiebreaker
Should be OK even in conservative mode especially if one Hyundai driver has an issue as always (and if they have no issue, no guarantee of winning for Evans as we see today)

Well deserved for Neuville and Sordo

Understandable. Of course it´s disturbing when you have to concentrate on PS.

Well done to Neuville.

Kajto takes the lead in the championship in WRC-3 thanks to the tie breaking rule (More 2nd places)
But it will be a really close call in Monza with Rossel (I mean without the appeal) especially if Lindholm is there

50th podium in career for both Neuville and Sordo, not so far from top 10 (10th: Solberg with 52, 9th: Auriol with 53). Might be a little «*short*» for Sordo to reach the top 10 if next season is his last one (with Neuville probably reaching a lot more).

15th win for Neuville who is getting closer from top 10 (Latvala and Mikkola with 18) and overtakes Tanak.

Neuville probably meant the earlier car starting stress stopped him from winning the PS as well as the rally.
That would've been the 'perfect weekend' he was talking about not having.

Have to say, I know it's already been said in some places on social media, but Nil Solans has really impressed this weekend and even though it was his own backyard he managed to get a clean solid result for himself without taking any unnecessary risks. Overall a solid weekend and I hope we get to see him again soon. As a whole, the rally wasn't as interesting as always although it did give Thierry a few missed heartbeats. IMHO I wish it would've been longer by 70-100 km's and that we'd have some night stages just to mix it up a little bit, especially now that the gravel is gone. Also, shame that the rain didn't come through for longer.

Sordo impressed me today, I would never have believed he would beat Ogier in a straight fight over those 4 stages. Normally he wilts physiologically under that pressure, but not today…bravo!
Formaux interests me, I think this kid is going to do well in the coming years. He is clearly fast when he lets it off, but he has a great attitude and understands the process.
Solberg did his job, no big errors and lots of learning, and I loved Solans enthusiasm, you could see on the in car at end of stages he was loving it… did a good job too!

A good rally from Solberg. He kept to his plan of learning and getting to the finishline.
Both the 2C SOL youngsters had a good fight and a very good result on their first Asphalt rally in a WRCar.

Steep learning curve for both, but results they can be proud of!

he didn't crash, so at least that's good.

but being 4 minutes slower and behind greensmith doesn't make me think he will be ready to take on ogier and lappi in 3 months.

You have to look at the overall. But you don´t.

Have in mind on first loop everyday Oliver was checking pacenotes, knowing that crashes isn´t a solution for him. And also learning tarmacdriving.

If you suggest he should be on same pace as Ogier in Spain, we all can see your judgement is totally wrong. Oliver has still a long way to go.

What's the most important thing for him right now is stability and getting through each and every rally, gaining that precious experience and hopefully also having a car that won't plague him with gearbox issues, like he had yesterday, or any other technical issues for that matter.

But thing is that it's not his idea, it's Adamos. Solberg should compare with one of Toyotas in 3 months in Sweden: Evans, Rovanpera and Lappi

He did ok, and exactly what he should be doing at this time of his career. Problem is that factory car nomination coming all too soon.

Solans did great (and comparatively better). Older "hybrid" car spec, first time in WRC, much less testing (Solberg had first tarmac testing, then Rally Alba, then testing again and Spain).

He will have to get to the end of that long way in 3 months. In monte carlo he will need to have the pace to beat at least greensmith and katsuta.

I know we have another rally after this, but even watching these cars on WRC+ All Live running on tarmac spec, I have to say, I'm really gonna miss these beautiful, magnificent machines. It seems like only yesterday we got them at the start line in Monte-Carlo and now we have to say goodbye to them. To add insult to injury, we have for a second year running a half circuit based event, instead of going out in proper style for ex. Wales Rally GB/Rally Ireland/Canary Island/etc. I sincerely hope this won't become a routine in the WRC discipline to end the season like this.

So that was my fifth visit of RallyRACC since 2012. I have arrived on Saturday morning and had met Kris Meeke on the airport accidentally.
Had a quick chat and a photo. The rally week had started nicely.
We were able to watch the shakedown and the seremonial start on Thursday, SS1 and SS4 ( Vilaplana) on Friday, and SS 9 ( El Montmell ) and SS 11 ( Querol ) on Saturday.

Shakedown - we were watching near the roundabout, changing the spot 3-4 times, there was a lot of people and nice atmosphere.

On Friday the plan was to go to SS1 near the hairpins on the downhill section. There was a big surprise when the police stop us 10 km before the stage on the access road and tell us we have to walk from there. So we have to turn around and to go to an alternative spot. We
were able to reach the stage just 5 min. before the first car. On the second pass we were watching on very fast left corner on downhill section and it was incredible how the top guys were passing. Evans, Neuville and Sordo were extremely neat and fast, Greensmith and Solberg were a bit unstable on the exit but the cars are awesome to watch with all the aero on such fast corners.

On Saturday the first stage for us was El Montmell - fast left corner to flat left and following a long straight. Solberg was very committed and Sunninen also was showing that he started to fell comfortable in the car. Of course all top guys were very spectacular to watch.
Neuville's fan club was also on that spot with Neuville's father and brother.
For the second pass we switched to Querol stage to a hairpin near the end of the concrete section. Easy accessible spot to end the rally as we have to drive back to Barcelona later in the day. Nothing incredible there, but not a bad place to watch for a change after the fast spots on previous day.

Looking forward now for the new generation Rally1 cars and hope to watch them live next year somewhere.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211018/58fe920e4171453efbae07203d9aa50c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211018/d338d5b383662c718621c81efbef2cb5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211018/2f254e6c1722b3b03f571d423c947b07.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211018/bcc78f995917538264e3c2b3e2539423.jpg
