Croatia Rally will start in two weeks (24.-26. 05.). This is the first time it is run for european championship, so we expect a lot of very good drivers and top cars. It is also run for the Slovenian championship and according to last information 44 slovenian drivers are coming.
Our best rally driver Juraj Šebalj wants to win this rally for third time, but he will have hard time matching that S2000 s.
Who are your favorites?

Entry list will be published tommorow, but i think Fontana, Solowow, Isik and some others will come.
Also I hope Vaclav Pech comes, as he won this rally last year.

Michal Solowow and his Fiat Punto S2000 will be there for sure. I'm not sure about Czopik. Will he continue the cooperation with Rene Georges Rally Sport?
Filip
14th May 2007, 14:20
According to latest information, these drivers are coming:
Coraddo Fontana ( Fiat Grande Punto S2000 )
Michel Solowow ( Fiat Grande Punto S2000 )
Volkan Isik ( Fiat Grande Punto S2000 )
Thomasz Czopik ( VW Polo S2000 )
Simon Jean - Joseph ( Citroen C2 S1600 )
Vaclav Pech ( Mitsubishi Lancer Evo9 )
Krum Donchev ( iSubaru/Mitusbishi )
Dmitar Iliev ( Mitsubishi Lancer Evo9 )
I'm not sure if Czopik will drive Polo or Evo9.

I think the same, Pech won already last year.

Last year it was raining for 2 days, after end of first leg Pech was 30 sec. behind Šebalj because he had some troubles with differentials, but on the second leg Pech was in class of his own so he is my favorite this year too.

Bulgarian drivers ( Iliev and Donchev) will be there for sure. It is rumoured that Donchev will drive mitsu this time.

Another three drivers from Bulgaria - Georgi Tanev (Subaru Impreza WRX STi N12B), Radoslav Kozlekov ( Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9) and Plamen Staykov (Fiat Punto Kit Car), but this news are only rumors.
Filip
15th May 2007, 11:22
Thank you all for welcome!
Šebalj should announce his plans for ERC before Delta, but he has big troubles finding sponsors.
I also heard that Kozlekov is coming, but I don't know much about that driver, is he good?
I would rather see Donchev in Subaru as there will be lots of Mitsu-s.
Donchev will drive a completely new Evo9 in Zagreb. Car is currently building by former Slovenian champion Darko Peljhan.

Unfortunately it looks like Pech won't be there..
Solowow and Czopik are back to S2000 cars...
Hum.. I don't know the level of local crews.. but looking for previous year and analysing the performance of young driver George Tanev I think he will be fighting for the first place.
For sure it will be an interesting rally ;)

No, I don't think Tanev is gonna fight for the win. He is progressing every single rally, but he is not on that level yet. Besides that,I think, this is his first rally for the season. But I wish him a good luck. May be I am wrong, just an opinion, we will see.

Tanev have no chance.
My favorite is Sebalj and JJ Simon. Lot of SS is downhill, I think that is chance for Simon and little C2. He will brake much later than heavy grN cars. Sebalj have advantage of knowlege all SS. Isik will be in top 3.
Kaucic know stages too and Szylagy. They are very fast.
It will be great rally.

Maybe he's still too young, but I saw him on last year's Barum Rally and he was damn fast, even faster than Iliev.

Anybody knows about the characteristics of the Croatia Rally? What kind of rally is it? Narrow stages in the mountains or something else?
Ramore

Yes, I am not saying that he is not fast, he is fast, and he is crazy(which is a good thing in rallying), but he is not so fast, and especially faster than Iliev. Obviously I am Dimitar Iliev fan, but Tanev has never beaten him in straight fight. And as far as I remember, Iliev had some problems with the turbo on that Barum rally.
But anyways, my point was that Tanev can't really fight for the win, especially with this kind of european competition. I like him and I hope he will countinue his development with the same pace.

Hi everybody... All stages are run in the moutains.
Some of the stage are very narrow on some places (like the OKIĆ stage, with many narrow harpins). Some on the other hand are very fast. The hardest stage is BUDINJAK (33 km), half of the stage is up-hill,and half is downhill, with more than 1000 bends. BUNDEK stage is run in the city of Zagreb. On the second day of the rally stages are run over the Sljeme mountain. SS Sljeme is very twisty, and also up the mountain and then down. SS Samci and Laz are faster stages.

Hello everybody!
I want to visit the SS Sljeme on Saturday for all three times.
I am coming from Graz/Austria and will arrive in the morning, so, does anybody know, when the stage is closed? 8:40 ?
The downhill curves on the westside of the stage are very interesting for me, but I think, the only way there is from the twisty road up to Sljeme and then follow the stage.
Does anybody have better information, how I can get there on the best way?
Nice greetings,
Klaus

Hello Klaus!
The stage will be closed at 8.40, so you can come earlier and go throgh.
Also you can take a small road from Mikulići to the stage, but then you'll probably have to walk a lot to find a place that you like.
There is also one road from Bistra but it's part gravel and i'm not sure if it will be opened.
btw. Do you know if Reitsperger is coming with Evo VII or VIII?

Iliev,Fontana,Isik,Donchev,JeanJoseph have arrived in Zagreb,
Georgi Tanev crashed his training car on Plešivica stage during reconnaissance and he will probably get a penalty, if not even exclusion.

Official site has english version. There is a little GB flag between
Zadnje promjene: 20.05.2007. and akdelta@akdelta.hr.
It's not very visible.
English version:
http://www.croatiarally.com/delta07-eng.htm
As for Tanev: I dont really think he will be excluded from the even. But it was the fourth or the fifth time that he was seen recceing (three times allowed). As I was informed Tanev had a really big crash, so I hope the crew is ok and ready to drive tommorow.

This is Donchev's new car. First time he will drive it will be on shakedown. Probably this car will be used for the tarmac rallies to the end of the season and his Subaru (which he used in Tatry Matador, Mille Miglia and Fiat Rally) will be used for gravel rallies. (Which probably means that he will go to Rajd Polski, Jarek :) )
Also the forth Bulgarian crew in Croatia rally is there - Radoslav Kozlekov/Nikola Popov.

Hello Filip,
I think, I will be early enough at the finish of the stage and drive up the hill to the curves. Then I let the car there in the first left handside curve downhill - I think, there is a small way to let the car there (yellow on map) - and walk around for every ss.
Thanks for your answer.

If you think to go to the finish of SS Sljeme you can exit A2 at Lučko junction and take Zagreb jug direction, than you can just follow the leg route (blue line on the map)

Maybe you are right. Additionally, Autoklub.pl reports that they had problems with electrical system of their Polo yesterday and Czopik could only drive the shakedown two times...
But Lancer? Lancer is a taxi cab! Czopik needs a real rally car, like Fiat Punto or Pug 207 :)

Nowadays EVOS AND Imprezas aren't taxis..
With big brakes, and 18 inches wheels the cars are very competitive and nice to see in the stages...
But the drivers must be really good to show the real potential of the car.
And the price of the cars aren't too much different (I suppose)... a top Gr N car with a top team.. it should coast almost the same as running with a S2000

Yes, in the old days everybody could have his own team of mechanics to run a group A car on his own.

Now it got much more complicate and there are only a few specialized teams that rent Super 2000 cars. But even if you pay a lot of money to use their services you can end up in big s-h-i-t like Czopik did :(

Tom, you were right. It wasn't a technical problem with Jean-Joseph's car, but a puncture.
I hit a stone that was by grass on the inside of a corner and punctured instantaneously. We had no other choice than to stop and change the wheel. After that, the only option for the rest of the day was to attack. - said Jean-Joseph.

Hi!
I just got from stages and here are my impresions:
The weather is sunny and very hot, but it may rain tommorow.
I'm a bit dissapointed with S2000s, they are fast, but not so attractive, even s1600 sounds better, and N4 cars are much more sideways (especially Iliev, who is very attractive, but had some problems with electronics).
SJJ showed best performance today and showed that he is even faster than S2000s, and he would be leading if it wasn't that puncture.
On Budinjak stage lots of crews had problems, so the start list for the leg 2 counts only 55 cars.
Our Juraj Šebalj is also pretty fast, but he had a puncture on SS5 and lost about a minute, but I hope tommorow he can be even faster because he knows that stages very well. It will be a big battle between him and Tomaž Kaučič.
On Bundek stage, ran in the City of Zagreb, Volkan Isik was very attractive, while Fontana was fastest.
I hope for a little rain tommorow to help Šebalj to win!! :) :) :) hehe

Some information about Işık : He's one of the best drives in Turkey Rally Championship, who got 4 points in the WRC 2001 season in China, decided to race abroud especially in ERC. He's very experienced and talented despite his old age. What's more, he's three-time Turkey Rally Champion.

Filip, I understand what you say. I think the reason for this is that the current drivers you see rallying with the S2000 don't drive the cars to the edge. An S2000 car is a real rally car and should be driven to the edge, look at images of Mille Migglia, you see a huge difference between Basso and the other FIATs and he goes a lot faster too...
Nevertheless, it looks like an interesting race and I'm very hapy to see these cars and drivers in the ERC! :) :) :)

Hello everyone, I'll try to bring you my impressions from the second leg:
Isik was missing already on the first stage, so Šebalj knew he could win. From the morning it was sunny and hot and it suited SJJ-s little C2 so he was incredibly fast too. On the first run through the SS Sljeme Šebalj took Solowow 15 seconds and the battle was more and more intensive.
On every SS number of cars was rapidly falling down, what proves it was a hard rally. Donchev had some problems with front differential and I think he must get back to his Impreza because cars from MPI racing didn't prove to be good.
After second run through the SS Sljeme Šebalj took the lead because of Solowow's problems, and than it started raining.Luckily the rain didn't last long, so the stages were mostly dry, except Sljeme which is ran through woods.
Fontana was also very fast today, much faster then yesterday and much better than in Mille Miglia.
I'm very glad that Juraj Šebalj finally started his ERC competition, especially with the victory, so he proved to be fast enough, but he has to get some more European experience. He had some problems with the car on the first leg, but the mechanics of Pacotti Motorsport worked hard and the result is here.
On this rally all 3 concepts (s2000,s1600,N4) proved to be fast enough to win, but it depends on driver, and Simon Jean Joseph really impressed me. :)

Guys, could you tell me what car Czopik drove on the Croatia Rally? I mean, was it the same car that Freddy Loix and Alberto Hevia drove a few days earlier?

Jarek,
In the mean time Rene Georges has 2 Polos. The one freddy used in the Sezoensrally in Bocholt was a completely new one, licence VTH-532.
The car that won in Spain was the car with licence VQN-424.
On a video of cricketfilms (thanks for these great movieees) I saw it was VTH-532, so the new one, for Czopick.
Happy? :)

Wow! FIA have updated the ERC standings and I think that this time they made it right:

Maybe he will change his mind when he will see the stages? ;)
By the way Crickets, do you somehow cooperate with Polish TV?

I don't have customers to the rally of poland or whichever collaboration with televisions, I wanted to go to Poland only in order to continue to make the services in the ERC... I hope for next appointments ....
