We arrive at Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi for the final race of the season. A record breaking season that has taken us through memory lane and introduced us to some new awesome tracks. What once seemed like an unlikely season, produced some of the best racing that we have seen for some time. And produced some first time race winners in Perez and Gasly. Unfortunately a very deserving Russell was deprived of his maiden F1 victory.

This was a season overshadowed by the Corona Virus pandemic and showed that one cannot be carefull enough as the virus struck the pinnacle of motor racing in their most internationally famous personality; Seven Times World Champion Lewis Hamilton. Fortunately, COVID was not disruptive to the championship contest. Apart from Perez that has missed two races due to COVID, and possibly missed out on upto 20 points, it was more or less a straightforward season.
We come into this race on the back of a sensational double race weekends at Bahrain. The first Bahrain race was dominated by the spectatcular crash of Romain Grosjean. The second by the news of Hamilton's COVID infection and consequentially the sensational drive and the painfull misfortune of George Russell drafted in to stand in for him. Also, the first race win by Perez and Estaban Ocon's first F1 podium.
But the battles for 4th in the drivers championship rages on as Perez [125] leads the way by 13 points, from Ricciado [112], his nearest rival. Racing Point [194] jumps ahead in the constructors battle for 3rd with a 10 points lead over Mclaren [184] their nearest rival. All other positions are just as close. Hence the fight rages on, all the way down the grid untill the chequered flag comes down on sunday.
We await the news of whether Hamilton would be fit enough to return to the grid this weekend. And inherently, the anticipation of seeing Russell back in the Mercedes. Of this, most have mixed feelings. Some want the champ to return, others quietly would like to see Russell and Bottas do battle again. While l wish the champ the best of health, l think the entertainment value of Russell versus Bottas is higher at the moment.
